I just popped into the local John Lewis store and measured a white screen on 27" iMac with colour meter on my iPhone and the bottom measured 10 points more yellow than the top, exactly the same as my own one. Must be just the nature of the screen. :-(

I sent my 27" that I bought earlier this year in to Apple for a different problem, and was surprised when it came back with not only that problem fixed, but the LCD replaced (problem was unrelated). I had noticed the yellowing in the bottom 1/3 early on, but it didnt bother me too much, even though it was quite strong. The replacement screen has no yellowing (although does seem to be a little darker in the bottom 1/3).

As some have said, I think the issue was from a bad batch or batches of panels from one of the suppliers and I think Apple is aware of it too. They seem to have tested for, or noticed it on my computer, and fixed it.

What app did you use ?

Hadn't noticed

But now that I look closely at my late 2013 27" imac, I notice the lower 1/3 is a little dingier than the top 2/rds. It is not a strong yellow cast, but I can see a bit of yellow in it in this bottom 1/3. Nothing like the posted pics and nothing I'd return it for though.

Yes, very good point. I was trying to do two things at once (show how the test should be done and show my results) and didn't realize that the screenshot wouldn't work for the latter. Please see the photo attached. It's not the same as actually seeing it with your eyes but it demonstrates the problem. :(

That's really unfortunate. My 2013 27 iMac has no issues like this whatsoever.

When you guys ask for a replacement, do you say anything in particular to make them "clutch" and say yes to your demand? Or just mentioning the yellow tint is enough for them to say yes? (taking in consideration they can't see the screen if you contact AppleCare via the phone)

Anyone had to escalate their claims to get a replacement?

If it has been fewer than 14 days, you can definitely get a replacement no questions asked by returning it. I didn't go through AppleCare, so I don't know how they would handle that. I imagine they would have you bring it in to a store?

Supposedly, Apple also has an extended Holiday Return Policy. So, if you bought it after Nov 1st, you could return it any time before Jan 7th (in the US).

No it's past the 14 days. It's been almost a year. At first I said nah, I'll just carry on until it really bugs me. I can't really not look at it everytime I open the iMac now so I want to exchange it. *I'm still under my first year and have extended applecare so I guess it shouldn't be a problem.
But I was wandering if you guys had any "keywords" to make the process go "faster".

I'll have my replacement 27 inch by Thursday, and I'm keeping fingers crossed. If it's anywhere near acceptable, I'm keeping it. It's been a bit of a pain for the return.

I called the apple support line today (europe) and while I was talking with them I came to think of this problem and asked them. They told me that it was only a rare problem. Doesn't seem rare to me in this thread...

I'm getting my mac on friday. I'm kind of nervous at this point because I read all these posts. Crossing my fingers! I'll keep you posted!

Well, this gives me hope. I'd like to think that they aren't all like this. Of course, I couldn't tell when I was at the Apple Store. They seemed to have a little discoloration but I don't know if it the same as my iMac. If the iMac wasn't as bulky or heavy as it is I'd bring it to the store for comparison. I guess that's still an option.

I don't know if there are any key words you can use. I just let them do their script, and followed their instructions, each time telling them that it didn't make a difference. They were very nice about it and seemed to empathize with me but it's something they have to do. In general, find that "playing dumb" is the best way to go, not just with Apple. If I try to show how much I know I get pushback.

Fingers crossed for you. :) Please let us know how it turns out. I agree that the return process is a pain. I plan on doing the same.

I don't think it's rare either. I think that the average customer either doesn't care or doesn't notice until later on. Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.

I too was very worried reading things on here before I got mine. Eventually, I settled down and simply waited to see what I'd get.

Now, I own a beautiful and flawless 27 iMac. I hope you have similar luck!

Only gripe was I got a ML retail box lol.

Isn't the 27" display the same one in the old late 2009- 2011 iMacs ? That LG ?

I spent half of my life replacing my late 2009 iMac screen because of smudges and shadows. Then I read on this 500+ page on Apple discussion that it must be a design flaw since almost everyone experienced this issue with their device.

Now with the new design, I can't believe that the screen is still experiencing issues.

Has Apple not learned that something is seriously wrong with the iMacs display after all the number of replacements ? heck, I even remember seeing a consumer lawsuit in this regard.

Less than 0.001% of iMac users suffer from this problem. It's unfortunate a few people in here have been unlucky but a huge majority of people will never experience these issues. All iMacs are a delight to use and own. I would never hesitate recommending them to anyone.

This is not accurate. Most people don't notice it, but the problem is real. I went to my local Apple retailer and the two iMacs they had on display had the yellow screen issue!

The list of threads is literally endless and the number of replacements people had makes me wonder what's the deal with LG.

And of course :

thunderbolt has same issue ?

Went into an Apple Store today, and both the 27" iMac's and the 27" thunderbolt displays seemed to share this same problem....
Disappointing

i don't have any problems with mine...since 12 November. I hope based on the amount of replacement (screen related) Apple get rid of the LG or talk to them to fix this problem

Called up Apple Care yesterday. Mentioned my yellow tint lower half of the screen. It's not That much appearant, but bugs me when I have a lighter screen displaying (grey, white, mostly pale colors) of course.

They made me restart in safe mode and such, and at the end (the sr. Advisor) said ok it's definetely a hardware issue. I can setup a genius bar appointment so they can replace the screen.

Anyone offered this yet? I thought they only swaped computers out. I don't mind just getting a new screen but my fear is them reinstalling it and not having done any yet and me being the "test" guy. My Apple storeis fairly small, and I doubt a lot of people has brought in iMacs to have a screen replaced (1st time I visited the store just to question on my issue).

Sounds like the exact process for me on my new 27 inch. I just received my replacement today. Just transferring files.
