How much longer until we find out?

That's a good question, if I remember correctly Apple updates their store overnight within American time.
Over in Australia it's already early morning and there's no updates so I guess we just have to wait and see.

I bought my 15" rMBP base model at the end of January. Really feel sad that I could get double the RAM for that same money now. Would have helped a LOT when working with multiple Adobe CC programs.

So is 128SSD too.

For the price it should be 8GB/256SSD.

I'd be happy anyway!

I agree, but I think the most we can hope for is the same size with a $100 price cut. I think the prices will be the same, though. The Air upgrade was only a 100 mhz boost with no ram upgrade, and this is 200 mhz with double the ram.

Hi.

Does anyone know if this will resolve the issue with the yellow screens on the retina macbook pros??

I'm hoping, I have my 4th coming tomorrow. Sucks cause even if the screen is perfect I'm sending it back for the upgrade.

For the price, it's still moderately competitive though.

Having said that, I refuse to buy any of today's MBAs. My 3 year old (2011) 11" MBA has 4 GB of RAM, upgraded to a 256 GB SSD.

Today? Same RAM and storage capacity, except 256 GB is standard on the higher end 11" MBA and doesn't require a ~$150 upgrade anymore. Unfortunately, it costs far more money ($300) to upgrade to the next step up --- 512 GB.

I kind of expected more progress than this in the specs department. I know that the CPU is faster, and the battery life is far better today than it was in 2011 (4.5 hours vs 9 hours), but it's the RAM and SSD that are surprisingly disappointing.

Unfortunately, SSD prices haven't fallen that much. Maybe next year. But at least RAM and SSD speeds have improved.

Is the top base configuration for the 15" now going to be 2.5GHz, 16GB, 750M, 1TB SSD? I'm not clear on that.

"Late 2014" rMBP will come in any time from now....specs leaked

Looks like it'll be a tier above the current top SKU, including a higher price.

So I have the base 15" set to arrive via UPS. What is the best course of action for returning it in favour of one of the refreshes? Just refuse the delivery and order the new one as soon as it's available? or go through apple and get the return labels and initiate an exchange?

Hmm, if the pic with the specs is correct, then I am rather pleasantly surprised by the base version getting 16GB of RAM, but as I was thinking of taking a plunge on the current base 15 retina I shall wait until the update un see what is what.

One reasoning I could think of for Apple bumping up the base RAM, was that, and I could be completely off here, but isn't the industry readying for DDR4 RAM in a year or two? That would mean that the amounts of RAM included would go down again as the DDR4 would be more expensive and more efficient compared to DDR3?

most likely the reason for the RAM bump is because they can streamline the manufacturing process. Rather than having that many CTO, they recognize a lot of people are opting for the 16 GB and by being able to solder the same ram to all the boards, it's going to simplify things. ;)

Oh, i didn't expect that the rumor was true.
I mean, i want to buy the rMBP, but i would have preferred a new dGPU…

It looks as though we may see updated MacBooks today however I wonder when they will be available in Apple stores.

there saving the hype for the broad well release so they can make that upgrade valuable enough for 2012 and late 2013 people to upgrade

The annoying thing is broadwell "H" CPUs aren't going to be coming out until sometime in June 2015. With Skylake slated for Q4 2015, it's like why do you even bother with broadwell....

And its there. The German store lists two 15-inch models (as before) with the rumored minor CPU bump and a slightly decreased price (100€ on the dGPU model).

Edit: Updates On 13-inch models, too, but never had an eye on them so no ideal was has changed.
