'Late' iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Being Delivered Early

my order said preparing for shipment yesterday and I woke up today with email tracking info.

ordered 9/14 1:30 am pacific Oct 5th moved up to 9/28

I pre-ordered mine on the first day of availability but not until like 10:30 that morning, so I figured I'd be waiting quite a while. My confirmation said that it wouldn't even ship until Sep. 26. But I just got a new email a few minutes ago saying that it has already shipped and I should get it no later than 3pm on the 23rd! Now I gotta figure out how to let my wife know that I upgraded unsubsidized before then...

edit: Not the 23rd - that's today. I meant the 25th, which is Tuesday.

Was at a Verizon store in Minneapolis with a friend today and they told us they wouldn't have any phones in stock until th 19th. As said that was the case at all Twin Cities Verizon stores. Said they sold out by 9 AM on Friday. There are 5 Apple stores in the Tin Cities and all of them were sold out too and couldn't tell me when they would get more stock in.
 
Ordered 16GB black online on 9/14 between 6-7AM ET shipped to Toronto. Original ETA was 10/9. Today, I got a shipping notice and UPS tracking number. New ETA is 9/28. :)
 
Ordered 5 AM (ET) on 9/14. ATT 32gb Black. Showed Oct 5 delivery. As of Sat 9/22 showed Preparing For Shipment. Still showing that as of Sunday evening 9/23. Expect it to change to shipped at any time, but surprised it has stayed at Preparing for Shipment for a day and a half.

Mine has been in "Preparing for Shipment" for FOUR DAYS now.

Mines been in Preparing for Shipment for 2 days. I ordered one for myself and then one for my dad. Both on 1st day of pre-order. Both said Oct 5th.

His shipped yesterday. :mad: Hopefully mine ships tomorrow.

Mine says in transit from Memphis. Est delivery before 3pm tomorrow. Ordered mine at an AT&T store around 11:30am on the 14th.

Frustrating isn't it? And the one day my wife will be home to meet the UPS man of course unlike everyone else getting theirs on Thursday mine is getting delivered on Friday when no one is home. The UPS center is a 30 minute drive and I am unable to have it delivered to work. I foresee having to take time off work to pick it up my damn self at the UPS center. Apple has a signature required thing and I don't feel comfortable pre-signing for UPS to leave it on the door step. It will suck for UPS to come Friday and essentially be holding my iPhone 5 hostage over the weekend. I wish UPS was open Saturday morning so I could get it then. :(
 
Ordered at 8:20 EST Friday morning and my order still shows 'Preparing Shipment' for an Oct 5th delivery date. Hopefully Monday I'll receive a shipment notice.

I ordered mine from At&T 30 minutes after availability was opened, just like you.. And although my confirmation email said it would arrive the 21st, it still says "processing" on the order status. I called to see if they were still giving priority to those who ordered first, but they don't know anything. Using words like "I would think so.." and "probably soon"..

Sloppy planning- or intentional staggering of deliveries in order to create the appearance of a shortage to spur people into a buying frenzy when the "shortage" is over.

The official story is that Apple was taken completely by surprise by the demand. I'm inclined to doubt that.
 
I had two cousins preorder two white 16GB iPhones from AT&T at around 8:20AM-8:30AM pacific time and they received their phones on the 21st. Their order status said processing till the morning of that day. When they checked the UPS tracking number, it said it was originally supposed to ship on sept. 24 but I guess they got it a few days early. I ordered my black 16GB iPhone at 9:10AM from AT&T and till this day it says processing. My email said I would get it on the 21st but I never got an email saying it was going to be delayed like some people mentioned. I contacted AT&T today and they said that due to high demand, it was back ordered till oct. 4-15. The lady apologized and waived my $34 upgrade fee. Great.

I ordered a 64gb Verizon Black iPhone around 2:30am mountain time on the 14th. Recently it said Oct 5, but two days ago it said preparing for shipment with Oct 5. I just received an e-mail from Apple saying it has shipped and will be here on Thursday.

Those in the same situation as I was -- keep the hope up.

This happened to me. Go to ups and track by reference. Use your cell number as the shipment reference and it should be trackable. I'm pretty sure your phone has shipped.

Hmmm, can't seem to land a solid "reference". Just my 10 digit phone number without any parenthesis or hyphen isn't returning anything.
 
Ordered mine at about 0500 (east coast) on September 14th with a delivery date of October 5th. Been in a 'processing' status all weekend (with credit card charged). Just got my 'shipped' e-mail with a delivery date of October 1st. Better than originally promised, but September 27th would have been nicer.

Still works for me though, as I was heading out of town on the 5th.

My AT&T 64G Black has been that way since Sunday mid afternoon. Credit card hit, but as of this morning 7am ET, still showing preparing....
