Every single time, Apple "sells out" and every single time, like magic, they seem to then have plenty of supply a short time later.

.

Well yeah. They don't stop making phones until after the first batch is completely gone. This ain't HP after all.

----------

I ordered my iPhone at 5am EST and it still hasn't shipped yet I see people saying they ordered past 7:30 EST and in THE SAME STATE, and they are getting theirs on Sept 27th.

What model did you order and what did they. That is likely the answer right there. Remember there aren't just six models that work for everywhere.

Ok according to apple they have daily shipments but they don't know what time for security reasons. I'm heading to Evans Indiana, maybe the small towns will have some.

According to my sources, the stores get shipments every day Monday-Saturday but for security reasons they don't know the carrier, time or contents so they don't know when any particular item is due to arrive. This way no one can pull any funny business (internal theft is after all the biggest form of theft for retail)

Apple store 5th ave has plenty of stock.

Not suggesting they did not sell a lot but Apple's supply chain is clearly handling the orders well. I think an online orders gets delivered inside 2 weeks despite the 3-4 week warning.

went earlier this afternoon and they didn't have any ATT's left. what time did you go and what carrier?

Preordered. Got on launch day in store. Cancelled preorder. Nuff said.

I'm not convinced this launch was as good as expected for Apple. They seemed to have a huge batch in the Times Square store when I passed by today. I think everyone who wanted one preordered and I'm not sure of demand further. Honestly, I'd be shocked if demand for this one, due to carrier changes, outstrips the 4S. Although I can understand why the carriers are doing what they're doing-they're subsidizing it looks like $400 at least of it. That's a hefty price tag, and they want to recoup that money and grow from their targets years ago. I don't like Verizon or AT&T but...they aren't profiting off the iPhone nearly as much as Apple. Sprint is due to the fact they're getting new contracts-and they're hoping it translates into long term revenue.

On the contrary, my original Oct 5 delivery date slipped to Oct 9 ever since the status changed to "Preparing for shipment"!! I'm in Canada though.

I didn't preorder and I managed to get two from the Apple store in Glasgow. =) there should be lots of stock I guess.

Same here, I didn't preorder and today (22) I walked into a local AT&T store and got 2 white 64's ... I'm posting from mine

The black 32 I ordered through Apple Store app just after midnight arrived Friday morning.

The same phone ordered by my company rep (I had no choice) a little later is still in "Processing". I have no idea when it may come. It was one of the ones that initially said 10-14 days, then I received an Email stating that it would in fact arrive on the 21st. Yeah, right. Didn't happen.

If you have no idea whether or not Apple had more phones ready for preorder then you have not been following the trends and reports. This year Apple sold more preorders in one hour than the 4S did in 24 hours last year. If you can tell me someone who can anticipate that I can tell you he is going to be a very rich man.

The suits at Apple already ARE very rich men. It is their job, among other things, to ensure proper stocking levels. They forecast demand continuously.

And yet, on every launch, there is an announced shortage of product, quickly rectified. If it happened once, or twice, or three times, then I could conclude that Apple sometimes makes errors. But when the richest, most successful megacorporation in the world announces shortages pretty much every time, I become sceptical that they are experts at everything it takes to run such an enterprise, except forecasting demand.

I ordered two iPhone 5's at about 5:30 am EST on September 14th and received a notification tonight at 11:30 pm EST that (for one, not both phones) instead of being delivered on October 5th as originally expected, it would arrive on September 28th.

Woot!! email just arrived that my phone has shipped :) delivery now Oct 2. That could change since UPS does not deliver to my community but Purolator does. Earlier this afternoon my card had not yet been charged.

Off to stalk the UPS tracking site...

At this point, Apple has been SO unhelpful I will probably return my iphone 5 when I do get it... whenever that Ends up being. Considering that I ordered mine at 4 a.m. CST on 9/14 and there is no information at all about my order except that it can't possibly be cancelled because its been "Prepared For Shipment" for almost 3 ********** days, they've really gone out of their way to make me feel like they don't value me as a customer.

Of course, they're the richest company ever, so they probably don't...

What are you even talking about? He lives in the western (pacific) time zone. You were able to preorder at midnight Apple's time (pacific)... 3am eastern.

As far as the guy who you quoted. I don't get why you're disappointed with Apple and impressed with AT&T. They simply sold out of the first batch by the time you had ordered and you got stuck with the next shipment of iPhones to arrive from overseas.

The fact that you were able to order 9 hours later and get filled on the same shipment as your Apple one just means that they didn't sell out of the secondary iPhone arrivals yet...

Sorry about that. I had a brain cramp focused on EST. I fixed my original post. However, I think the second part of your message is meant as a reply to someone else.

Are your order still on backorder?

No. The backorder quantity changed to 0 sometime tonight. Hoping to wake up to a tracking number in the morning :)

bit of an update, now my boyfriends apple account says iphone 5 shipped and my apple confirmation email finally arrived to me and says a sept 27th delivery date :)

U can always buy from shop and return the online one when it eventually arrives

I'm starting to hate my iPhone 5 less. Still a boring phone. Still no excuse for the dumb connector change. Still should be a larger screen. Maps still sucks. The black one is still far too easily scratched. Nonetheless, it's growing on me. I still think the you're better off keeping a 4 or 4S if they're in good in condition (my 4 had a broken home button).

I'll give it a couple weeks to decide if I return it for a Note 2. Really like the idea of a stylus (old Palm Pilot fan), and the bigger screen. Android is a big negative...a little of iOS's stable boringness would be appreciated. And, of course, the larger Samsung screens seems especially likely to shatter.

We shall see.

I do not know where to begin with this.....you mention apple is the richest/most successful company in the world, yet YOU are skeptical they know how to run an enterprise ? Lulwut? How many billion dollar companies do you currently operate? It is pretty obvious apple runs their enterprise perfectly fine.

Also about demand. You do understand that iPhones have to be assembled and that it takes months to make the phones for release right? It is not something that can be printed out, it requires significant man hours to produce. When demand for your products keeps increasing, it makes it harder to provide supply, that's just a fact.

As for people who think apple limits supply on purpose, why? To increase sales? iPhones are the best selling phones. To increase demand? The demand is clearly there as preorder and sales numbers increase each year. To increase stock prices? Apple stocks are at a record high already.

People over analyze everything and sadly they are wrong mostly. Here is another fact: no one gives a **** about scratchgate :D

just sounds to me like your just here to rain on iphone's launch. if you hated it to begin with, why buy it? screen larger? jesus, are you one of those people who love this huge ass screen on a cell? how do you even hold it? plus it takes up so much space. you might as well go buy yourself those original cell phones from the early 90's with the antenna! both black and white are very scratchable, not one more than the other. you just notice it more on black cuz well, of its color.
i own an iphone 4, its in mint condition since day one. but i want the iphone 5 for its better camera and video capabilities and iOS features. although i do agree apple dropped the ball on maps. its uselss for me at the moment since i use public transportation here in NYC on a daily basis. but the phone is anything but boring. if you wanted a note, you should of gotten one.
you sound like those sony, nintendo fanboys, "nintendo sucks! its for kids! ps3 is for gamers!". admire the iphone for what it is, as well as other phones. everyone has a preference on cells but they shouldnt go hating on them just cuz.

I like my 4, but the home button is broken. That made getting a 5 an easy decision. But, it makes me appreciate my 4 all the more.

All the same, I really would like a larger screen. And, despite how large the biggest phones seems, they really aren't too large, imo. 7" is bigger than you'd want to carry in a pocket, but 5-6" inches works. That's really not that large....we're just used to small because bigger couldn't be done efficiently and cheaply. However, Android is an issue.

We'll see.

So demand wasn't as strong as expected?

2 millions in 24 hours? obviously not

On the side note: They better give you a longer estimate delivery and then work to improve that, then give you a shorter estimate delivery and have you going totally insane about having your order delivered late to you. Common sense.

6" is big too big is an opinion. Bigger couldn't be done cheaply. Is that why the big brick phones dodnt take off ;) on a side note the note 2 is something I'm gonna look at.
