Reddit is a hate site, think twice about supporting them with any money.
Reddit is a massive site full of extremely varying content. If you don't like some subreddits then don't subscribe to or view them. There's plenty of garbage and disrespect on this site too.

I am ignorant. I know that. But when I hear reddit, I think of the nastiest stuff the world has to offer. (child porn, human trafficking, torture). I'm sure I'm wrong, and I have no idea why my brain associates those things with it. But I've never gone to the reddit website because of that.
That's 4chan....

How do you get Reddit and 4chan mixed up. Lol

Reddit is great. Sure, there are trolls, but trolls are everywhere. That's the Internet, and life for that matter. Reddit has a great community and there's something for everyone. It is a fantastic resource for information, anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

I block reddit from my search engines using this script after I searched on so called inocent Google about pregnant cat and the reddit link was loaded with profanity. Reddit is the cesspool of the interent and so is Twitter.

It wasn't a young cat perchance?

So when did you exactly visit reddit?

Reddit is largely a cesspool. It definitely suffers from the anonymous aspect much like message boards.
You mean like the very one that you're participating on right now?

Thanks for the laugh. Just because you had one bad experience with an 'inocent' search, you're going to block an entire website, due to finding profanity. Good luck with blocking the internet.

So you admit that you're ignorant, but you continue to stand by your statement. Sounds like a typical Mac user to me!
Macs are beautiful and powerful, you get what you pay for. If you don't like them then you can go to Hell. Oops, I mean, go to Dell.

I've never been loyal to any forum online other than Reddit. Anything you want to ask people, you can do it there, and you will likely get helpful replies and real communication. It's as if Reddit makes everyone as open-minded as they can get, while other forums make people as bigoted and rude as they can get.

Elsewhere you post a thread and you either get no replies or one person says something unhelpful. For some reason Reddit seems a lot more intelligent than the rest of the Internet. I'm not saying it's intelligent, just *more* intelligent than say YouTube comments (Jesus Christ those are dumb for some reason), Facebook comments (which are usually short and say nothing useful) MacRumors comments (which are usually patronising and passive-agressive), and your other usual forums where you have to get use to how things are there before you even start posting. Try doing that every time you have a question on a new forum...

On Reddit you have a forum for literally anything, which means if the paint on your car's gear-shift knob is flaking off, you have a forum for that, with people who won't mind you're new to it, and they'll help you. You don't have to register on SmartCarExpertsDiscuss.com just to post one question.

Also I think the traditional forum structure, with all messages going in the order they were posted with quotes, is totally stupid. I also don't like the huge amount of wasted space your regular forum layouts create, and the fact that discussions are spread across many pages, burying most posts forever. Reddit's system that prioritises upvoted comments and groups replies with the comments to which the reply is to, makes a lot more sense to me. I can actually scroll through pages and read everything and not be lost. Here I scroll up and I see discussions of stuff I have no idea about since there are only snippets of information in the quotes, no context whatsoever. Also maybe the best comment is buried on page 193 just because lots of stupid comments were posted afterwards, so no one will read it. Why give all comments the same priority, when most comments on the internet are going to be useless and stupid? When I join a discussion I don't want to read every comment that was made since it started, just the best ones. Reddit self-moderates in this way, which means that everyone who reads the comments can easily make the content better by upvoting and downvoting it as they go, making the discussion better and better for the next reader.

On Reddit you can go onto a forum and instantly get an idea of what's going on, what the general opinions are, and what has been said and agreed/disagreed on very easily. Go on MacRumors and you have no clue about what the atmosphere and general ideas are without having to read through hundreds of pages.

And saying that Reddit is bad because some of the stuff on Reddit is horrible is like saying the Internet is bad because some of the things on the Internet are horrible. This is the online world, lots of stuff is going to be horrible. But even more stuff is going to be great, helpful and useful to you, and by participating in that, you strengthen the good stuff.

Saying you should stay away from Reddit because certain aspects of it are really bad is the same as saying you should stay away from the Internet because certain aspects of it are really bad.

There are some great subreddits on that site that are really well moderated, and others not so much. If you filter just the subs that you are interested in and have good communities of people then you will have a fantastic time there. Default subs are usually lower quality because of their default status.
This is so true. I have been using Reddit for a while now and the only time I have ever seen questionable stuff was when I followed a link from a news site discussing the bad aspects of Reddit.

That is 4Chan...not Reddit. We have normal users while 4Chan has the crazies.

4chan isn't that bad, is it? I have friends of friends who go on it and I know it is seedy, but it's not child porn seedy, is it?

I thought that kind of seedy was Silk Road?

All of our comments discussing this mix up are going to be modded away, aren't they?
No, believe me, 4Chan is messed up. I saw an archived thread on it congratulating a guy that went on a mass murder rampage and killed himself in America last year. THEY WERE HAPPY THAT HE DID IT!

This is because of the stereotype that has now been created for Reddit. Because of all the negativity and media blitz about the negativity surrounding Reddit, people automatically assume that Reddit is only about the most heinous things that human society has to offer. There are some fantastic content/communities that depict the wonderful and redeeming qualities of our society (wonderful photography, creative writing prompts, etc) that only Reddit can offer, however it looks like people don't want to take the time to find this wonderful content on Reddit.

I came to Reddit as an unknown, and as such, when I discovered the site, I was ignorant about the negativity that surrounded this website. I came with an open mind, and to my surprise and amazement, I discovered some truly interesting, engaging, and helpful communities. Unless you are specifically looking for the negative and hateful communities, as a newcomer, Reddit makes it very hard to scope out these communities IMHO.

Really the only thing that turns me away from Reddit is the site layout. It feels too busy.

Unrelated: I remember getting so frustrated the first few times I visited Reddit because I found some Reddit thread through Google, and everyone was talking about some website, but I couldn't find the effing link. Turns out the title is the link. It wasn't obvious.

It depends on where you go on Reddit. But yeah, Twitter is garbage everywhere. I can't believe anyone uses it.

Nice, thanks for the heads up. Even though I don't use Alien Blue anymore, I was able to redeem this.

On that note, I'm not really satisfied with any of the reddit clients. I go back and forth between iAlien and Narwhal. I like iAlien's UI and color scheme the best, but it hasn't been updated in a while, you can't edit posts, and it crashes semi-frequently. Narwhal gets updated like crazy, but its night mode is unappealing (glaring white text) and it has some puzzling UI decisions.

Anyone not receive the notification in Alien Blue? Just sent an email through their support stream.

The easiest way to tell if someone is a 20-something white male is if they like Reddit.

Yeah, small subs, blah blah blah. While some of that is true, the vast majority of the most popular subs are absolute trash filled with tired jokes, memes, constantly repeated misinformation, and subreddit drama.

You are better off skipping the site altogether and finding a website or forum dedicated to whatever interests you rather than go to Reddit. Deleting my account and stopping visiting the site was one of the bet decisions I ever made.

Whole heartedly agree on the jokes/memes stuff, but I can honestly saying using the city specific subreddits as well as communities like r/loseit have improved my quality of life. Whats great about Alien Blue is how easy it is to ignore the rest of the noise.. hope that the Reddit App retains that functionality.

All 20 something white males like trash filled tired joke stuff?

I think everyone who dislikes Reddit just isn't capable of defining their own interests. And maybe a bit racist? Or mysoginist; lots of those around too.

Simply put; don't generalize; it's dumb.

I value opinion; and I like the non-standard opinions. People disagreeing with me is what I look for. If I want to confirm myself I'll buy a einstein- bubble head; "jah my freund das ist right"

That's 4chan. Reddit is less visual violence and more verbal abuse or extreme rightism.
