I have no problem with the camera area design, my problem is that its still the same overall phone design that they have had since the iphone 12. I'll get interested in buying a new phone when they change the design as I already have this design with a 15 Plus.

Going back to aluminum? Completely unacceptable.

As always, capitalism wins. Rather than absorbing the new tariffs imposed by the Cheeto-in-Chief, Apple is passing the cost onto consumers, leaving us with an inferior product yet again.

Not big fan of the design, but probably it will grow with time, just like the Notch and the Dynamic Island. The biggest disappointment will be going back to aluminum tho.

When your camera bump has a camera bump...

I know people who absolutely hate that the iPhone already wobbles when you put it down on a flat surface. This does nothing to help.

Clearly, they're going out of their way to not copy Pixel, who apparently did this right.

The more I look at the picture of the 3 cameras on the left side, I can't help but wonder -- the only reason they wouldn't make the bumps smaller, conserving space, eliminating the wobble too, being more symmetrical, would be that it would look too much like Pixel. Oh dearie me, the pride.

Why mess with perfection

This series of iPhones along with the iPhone 4/4S will go down as the most elegant and refined iPhone designs ever. They really made the iPhone feel like a high end piece of hardware
Why the 4/4s?
isn’t the 5 more elegant than the 4? as it made the transition from screen to metal softer, was thinner and got rid of the industrial brushed steel as well as being slightly taller so perceived as thinner in width.
If anything, the 3gs in white is probably the most elegant of them all.
The XS in white is a good contender too but they were already too big to be really elegant by then.

It’s lipstick on a pig. At this rate, they probably felt the need to change something just for the heck of it. Their design team is probably bored out their minds.

I swear I'll come to tell you you were right it that's the case, but I'll also come to laugh at your comment if the bump is there to make room for a much bigger selfie-camera that would be a great improvement for younger buyers and content creators who represent and important target for Apple.

They need to have a heck of a reason to downgrade from Titanium to Aluminum. I’ve gotten used to having Ti on my phones now and not having to worry as much about scratches.
This is it. It's one the main reasons I went from a regular Aluminum Watch to the Titanium Ultra. My prior regular watches looked sandblasted in a month while my 2 year old Ultra still looks new. Hopefully this is fake news.

Typical pattern of modern day Tim Apple. Went from good leather iPhone cases, to cheap leather, to FineWoven trash, to just silicone.

What does a big bar provide in terms of value to the user?

Looks good to me!
The biggest advantage for this new camera bar is that it looks so different. It doesn’t matter that it’s as ugly as sin. People will be able to tell that you have a new iPhone 17 Pro from across the room. No more confusing it with an iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro, etc.

I don’t care at all, but there is a significant market segment that only cares about showing off that have the latest and greatest Apple iPhone product. And this will encourage those people to upgrade to an iPhone 17 Pro this year versus just holding out for one more year.

I find it simply unnecessary, but it might appease those who complain about the wiggle (or not).

The 4/4S were gorgeous pieces of hardware design, just beautiful, especially compared to what they replaced. They were compared to a Leica camera, by Steve Jobs himself.
The 3G/3GS generation was by far the worst. Also the last generation I ever used a case on my phone. I didn’t mind covering up that plastic piece of junk! Talk about cheap and uninspired.

Mobile phone envy? Whatever floats one's boat. Maybe in high or junior high school?

At least with the long horizontal bump, I suspect there will be less hand-wringing over iPhone wobble. Though I imagine if someone exerts a few pounds of force on the upper left or right corner, they can get it to wiggle a little. Just another thing to cause massive unhappiness in one's life.

So a blend of the classic Pixel/2 and modern Pixel devices?

I really hope they don't keep the triangular camera setup. It never looked good.

What does a big bar provide in terms of value to the user?

Why do all the renders have the raised glass coated/painted black? Wouldn't it be the same color as the phone, like every other raised camera bump on the iPhone?

What are the chances if part of the space of that big bar will allow to have a back screen to show some key information as clock, weather and eventual notifications personalized by the new phone user??

Remember than Apple foldables rumors are becoming more serious recently, and an outside screen has been extensively rumored, so may be Apple is going to implement a back screen in it’s new iPhone to begin to accustom the market to outside screens, so when Apple launch it’s foldables with that secondary screen, will be easier for the market to accept them, as market will already be familiarized with them.

I think it comes down as incremental upgrades which we know Apple applies in every generation every single year.

iPhone (1)7

We're calling it... The (Not So) Dynamic Bar. It lets others easily identify with a glance that you're using the latest and greatest iPhone ever. We've designed the new light and LiDAR array to be up to 300% farther away than iPhone 16 so you can rest easy knowing what phone you're holding without having to look at the screen. We're introducing a remarkable innovation that's both hardware and software. This is Dynamic Bar. Available September 2025 for $1699 and up.

I guess it comes down to how one perceives elegance.
For me there is a feminine quality to elegance.
In such a way the 4 with its thick brushed metal border and uneven surfaces, big rounded buttons and heft is decidedly less elegant than the white 3gs with its chrome border and curved back all flowing uninterrupted. The material is secondary and plastic can be done beautifully too. A ceramic would be nicer sure. The Leica part is Jobs marketing as Leica would not use fragile and heavy glass if other options were available. Above all Leica M is about being practical, durable and ergonomic. The 5 is closer to the Leica ideal.
Anyway, thanks for the chat.

I'm not at all concerned about what the camera layout looks like. I'm interested in the quality of images the iPhone can make, regardless of how the back of the phone is designed.

But with all the "it's ugly" comments in this thread and others, I can see a lot of people do seem to see their phones as fashion accessories, or that they aren't pretty enough for their tastes. To each their own.

At least for the Air, how do you design a big-ass bar across the back but still have the lens stick out even further so it won't sit flat when you put it down? Un-effing-real.
It’s hard to tell if that will be the case, but god I hope not. Apple is very precise with their designs, maybe it will just be really close but will still clear the lens 🤞🏻 It really doesn’t look like the Pro will though
