This looks so bad wtf

What does a big bar provide in terms of value to the user?
With the introduction of the iPhone 17 lineup, Apple is reportedly planning to bring the entire selection of devices back to aluminum.
Which phone lineup has consistently changed in that period? Even the Galaxy looks the same the last 3-5 years. It’s lipstick on a pig. At this rate, they probably felt the need to change something just for the heck of it. Their design team is probably bored out their minds.

Don't hold your breath on that idea. The renders make it look like there is a lot of space between the cameras and the flash/lidar. In reality, you could barely squeeze another lens in that space. It's really tight, especially on the standard Pro. And if these really are the frames, there won't be anything going in that space.I think we're all in for a surprise as to why there's that larger black space at the top for the camera area. Maybe there's something else hidden behind there.
The Pro models don't have any better anti-reflection than the standard models for the 16. But according to MacRumors, the answer is yes, it is coming to both phones on the 17.Does anyone know if the base iPhone 17 will feature an anti-reflective display too just like the pro models and 4K/120fps video recording?
how do you design a big-ass bar across the back but still have the lens stick out even further so it won't sit flat when you put it down
Came here to say the same. Sadly it’s not a youth thing either. I’m over 40 now and know of a lot of people who can barely afford groceries but always make sure they have the latest Pro Max. Good for me as a longtime shareholder I guess, but otherwise makes me cringe.Mobile phone envy? Whatever floats one's boat. Maybe in high or junior high school?
At least with the long horizontal bump, I suspect there will be less hand-wringing over iPhone wobble. Though I imagine if someone exerts a few pounds of force on the upper left or right corner, they can get it to wiggle a little. Just another thing to cause massive unhappiness in one's life.
Depending on how far the lenses protrude from the island, it can prevent wobbling when on a table. As it stands, there doesn't seem to be any reason for that hideous camera island. There's no way any company would just extend a camera island across the whole phone just for a dollar store new look. Even if they put a small screen in there, it would be totally useless because of its size. I'm still wondering can this really be it? Lol
There are many types of aluminum. The same goes for titanium. I wonder what type of aluminum the iPhone 17 Pro/Max will have. Some older Apple iPhones and iPads were 6000 and 7000 series aluminum.I thought the rumored Air would have a titanium frame to prevent bends, but now MR is saying all the phones will be aluminum?
It was cool to see Google do that with the 9A. Seems like the right move. Especially for their lower cost model. No camera bump is something I would like. And small size. Miss the best years of smartphone industry before 2019.
There must be some hidden feature to this camera bar that we don't know about yet-- possibly a mirror for selfies or LED indicator. What does a big bar provide in terms of value to the user?
A lot of people do indeed want them to change the look of the phone for the sake of change. Is there a practical reason for the new camera bumper? Is it just to have a change?
So you work for Apple....Do you want a redesign for the sake of having something different? I'd rather prefer Apple to perfect their current design and material choices, rather than changing it constantly which in turn requires a significant retooling investment and ultimately, you as an end-client bear the cost of all of this. Furthermore, even if Apple completely changes the design, who cares? The vast majority of people will put a case on top of it right after unboxing and will never appreciate it. Also, there is a vast market of third-party accessories and Apple should be careful what it decides to change because it may ultimately lead to certain accessories no longer being supported and some clients may decide to hold on purchasing the new device because lack of compatibility with already purchased chargers, stands and so forth. In essence, drastic changes should be avoided. Finally, Apple's design team is not working only on the external design of the device but it is also involved in designing the software, so I'm not sure that they got bored or lazy in the recent years.
Is it monkeys? I hope it's monkeys.Maybe there's something else hidden behind there.
