does anyone care that a line has formed outside the :apple: 5th avenue store for the 3G iPhone?

they're all uninformed tourists. that store is often packed with lines of people trying to get in. no one visiting new york seems to know there are two other stores in the city.

Maybe it is because I don't yet own an iPhone, but I'm growing tired of so many iPhone rumors and reports. Hopefully there will be some Mac related news soon.

Someone on engadget reported their co-worker called the store and they said there was no line, WTF!

too funny. I can't believe engadget is posting that. I guess they're right: a line is forming for absolutely no reason, other than that it is a nice day in NYC and people are out shopping in droves. Probably some extra people in town for the memorial day weekend, too. They could already be inside if they were at the soho or w. 14th st. stores.

If you read the comments, apparently its the ImprovEverywhere clan...

Actually i am in the developer program not enterprise and i still have beta 5 there is no where for me to download beta 6. Im Pissed!!!!:)

Trust me, you don't want it yet. 5A274d was actually working very well for me WRT the exchange stuff. 5A292g fragged everything. I can't even pair my BT headset let alone re-establish my exchange account. Ditto for a couple of others in our beta group.

EDIT: Apple found us a work-around. The beta rocks on...

just to throw something out there... Many have speculated that Apple stopped selling 2.5G iPhone on May 9th to avoid mass returns when they release the 3G iPhone. Apple's return policy is 14 days, which expires tomorrow (May 23) for iPhones bought on May 9th, or to be more precise at midnight (just over 9 hours away), so in theory, they could release new iPhone at midnight and the 5th Avenue store is open 24 hours. Then again, this could also be Improv Everywhere or just some tourists waiting to ride the glass wonkavator.

Geotagging

I hope they make it like the Helios where you can also see your friends, who have the phone, on the map. Great way to help people with directions!

an mmo set in the real world...........how lame can you be?! How about going out and doing stuff rather than talking online about doing stuff!

I'm not totally getting this. What does it do for the USER besides take our photos and info and give them to Google to build Google Earths database of mapping or whatever company or app the info is going to????? If that's all it is then I'm really NOT interested in participating.

I am also a little worried to see that the camera app is still only pictures and no video has been added in. I don't see why they would make video capturing a separate app.

All I know is iPhone 2.0 better have video capturing and iChat or I am going to be very disappointed. If it doesn't, it would be about only the second 3G phone EVER not have to video conferencing, number one being the BlackBerry Bold!

BlackBerry Bold is a 3G paperweight :p

yeah, i think it's just a coincidence in timing. anyone following the rumors and so attuned to apple's policies as those on commenting on this site would not be waiting in line at that tourist trap when they could be getting it done at the other stores.;)

are any others open at midnight?

Okay, this is a nice feature, but where in the world are my productivity apps at? How about iWork Mobile, or iWork Lite? What good is a phone with enterprise features and speed if all I am going to be doing is looking at Myspace and Facebook?

Come on and give us POWERFUL apps and features... I know you can do it!

I don't think Apple would release such a coveted item at midnight at only one store unless they release it there at midnight and nationwide the very next day. I still say a June release even though I want it to come out sooner.

Nintendo released Wii Fit a whole day early in only their NYC flagship store, then everywhere else in US the next day. Maybe Apple is borrowing from Nintendo's playbook?

the one at 14th st. closes at midnight ... so, no.

i still vote that it's the wonkavator though ... haha. i just pictured the entire line backed up for the elevator and the stairs wrapping around it are completely empty. :D
