Negativity abound!

I can't believe that MOST people seem to have an initial reaction that is profoundly negative...

I, for one, am excited about this new phone because of the proposed camera upgrades. I also plan to go with the larger Plus model this time around. I don't really have much negative to say, honestly. I can't even think of anything negative to say... I guess I'm suspicious of losing the 3.5mm headphone jack. I tend to have to use that for work calls and charge the phone at the same time. That's really all. The speaker stuff... well, I'll determine how I feel about the necessity of that upgrade once I see (or hear) it in action.

Its the trash and burn crowd today. Nothing pleases them. Hate first.

Designwise, the 4.7 inch seems more appealing. Can't stand that bender look of the 5.5 inch

Could not agree more. The Dual lens on the + will have some advantages. However, just wait until you see the images from the new 4.7 Lens/Sensor. Going to the front of the class, with room to spare. :apple:

Anybody on contract will be happy that there is no compelling reason to upgrade.
Looks like with a maturing market it's fine to go every 2 generations.
Coming from a 4S to a 6S Plus was nice, so I expect 6S Plus to 8S Plus to be worth it.

I still have the 4S.

This is how I feel. MacRumors commenters seem to lack some sense of reality. And, sadly, even a sense of how Apple approaches hardware design.

I sincerely believe this company makes choices and changes for very intentional reasons. Including the decision to not change or change little about the design.

This is not news MacRumors, face it: Apple does not just change things to make them look different. They make changes when they believe it's ready and truly makes the product better.

I also plan to go with the larger Plus model this time around. I guess I'm suspicious of losing the 3.5mm headphone jack. If you use your iPhone a lot, or travel, and don't require one-handed use, I recommend the Plus personally. I actually upgraded straight from a 4" iPhone 5 to a 5.5" iPhone 6 Plus and hated it, so I went down to an iPhone 6 for a year. I came back to the Plus for the 6s year and don't regret it. Gradual upgrading in size is what I recommend. If you're using a 4.7" iPhone, go for the Plus next time and see how you feel. It takes a little getting used to, just fyi. But you can kiss any worry about battery life good-bye.

I'm excited about the dual-lens, and what it could mean for our photos and videos. Everyone that hates the fact that it protrudes misses the whole point.

Also, if you're worried about the headphone jack, it'll be the time to try out bluetooth headphones. It's not a bad investment, especially if you need them for work calls. I use Beats Solo Wireless headphones daily, and only need to charge them once a week.

Can't wait for the them to explain the design in the keynote.
MacBooks and other Apple devices looked the same for a long time, I could live with that. Better cameras and faster processors from time to time are ok with me.
Since iPhone 5 or maybe 5s I never had the strong urge for the next one as I had it with getting the 4 and later the 5. These devices are close to perfect most of the time, I am using mine heavily for business and private stuff.
Nevertheless I expect them to publish new designs next year. 3GS or 4 revival would be nice and enough place for the camera, although I need and like a slim as possible iPhone.

Ummm, just because something has been a certain form in the past doesn't mean it needs to mimic it in the future. We wouldn't have the iPhone today if Apple followed that philosophy -- "Have you seen actual real cell phones? They all have real keyboards."

Protruding camera lens is a design disgrace! Eliminate the protruding camera lens -- NOW!
This has nothing to do with how things were done in the past. The physics of light and lens geometry doesn't change just because electronics get smaller (and more power efficient). All else equal, thinner and lighter phones mean worse image quality from the camera if you shrink the lens and camera together with phone thickness itself. There are some countervailing forces in improved image processing (aka noise reduction) due to performance improvements of image processing pipelines. The image sensors themselves have also been getting better, but we are quickly running into limits imposed by physics here as well. More computational power (at the lens design stage) is also creating more compact lens designs.

Protruding lenses are the acknowledgement that you cannot make the lens smaller without impacting image quality. Let's take a guess: Are there more people that care about flush camera modules then there are that rather have image quality improvements instead of stagnation or even regression?

My recommendation, along from others, was to upgrade every 2 generations anyways, which is roughly 2 years... enough time for the contract to be fulfilled.

fwiw, that's not just a model of someone messing around in rhino trying to fool the internetz.. far too much detail for that.. whoever modeled this has skills and we're looking at a week's worth of work here.. all things considered, probably much more than that (we're just not seeing the rest of the model(s))

Yeah, I also agree it's kinda lame for Apple to only give the better camera features to the 5.5" model. The 4.7" model is a great size. I'd definitely buy it over the 5.5" if it didn't get the lesser camera. Oh well.

The comments of 99% of the readers of McRumors say to me you guys can't read!
"The latest CAD renders, posted on Chinese social media and shared by French website NWE, provide a closer look at the possible design of the smartphones and paint a clearer picture of which features may be included."
CAD renders and possible design should say enough. So you just look at the pictures and start babbling?

boring boring boring. i had huge expectations for this phone.
Why on earth would you have huge expectations for this phone?
[doublepost=1467856336][/doublepost]
That mini jack adaptor better be included in the box.
Why? So people can be encouraged to continue using 3.5 mm devices instead of moving onto Bluetooth, which is exactly what apple is going for here?

Except Apple did exactly this with the original iPhone. It actually had multiple rows of holes on either side of the dock connector, of which one side was just a microphone.
[doublepost=1467820654][/doublepost]
Intersting theory, but it still doesn't explain why those holes would be left undrilled. Any sort of charging will require electrical isolation from the metal of the case.

Do we know how the smart connector is isolated from the case?

Can we PLEASE stop fooling ourselves into thinking that 2 speakers mounted on the same side, that are about half an inch apart, will actually provide any kind of stereo .....
Since we don't know whether the next iPhone will have two speakers or just one, I don't plan to fool my self either way.

Not fooled.

Satisfied?

Zzzzzzzzzzzz iPhone 7 zzzzzzzzzzzz boring

Why even bother having a keynote--what's the point?

Or, it's the crowd with zero imagination such as yourself. Way to dream small boring man.

Hideous and embarrassing. The worst iPhone design yet, aesthetically speaking. Possibly practically too, if the no headphone jack rumor is true. That will be a reversal in the next design once people realize how much they miss it. Just yikes.

Apple puts millions into R&D. They know how eliminate the camera bump. Flush cameras is where it's at, not this half hearted protrusion nonsense. Image quality hasn't been terrible since iP5s.

Guess many of us going to miss the audio port.
Timmy going to announce "The best iphone ever... and we've removed your beloved port with free adaptors." #argh
