What's the difference between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro then? Both are similar and the Pro model doesn't really have Pro features as such. I get your gist though.

I see it that the MacBook Pro is a device that was created for productivity per the user to complete more desktop orientated tasks and or programs. I don't see an iPhone that is meant or intended to be categorized the same as a MacBook Pro. Especially for a device that is updated annually with Certain capabilities.

People are going to be confused. The phone that people have been calling the 8 is the X now. The phone that was called the 7s is now the 8. Maybe apple is doing this to confuse customers and make them feel like they are getting a deal. One thing is for sure, it will be difficult to grab a new model this year.

On Tuesday, I think Macrumors' servers are gonna be completely hammered!
So will some of the forum participants who are off from work if we make a drinking game over the use of words like "magical" "best...ever..." and other expressions Tim and Co. have beaten to death by now. :D

Only question left - is Touch ID still in the iPhone X, and just how good face ID is.

Gosh, has everything been leaked already?!?

It is unfortunate that so much of the surprises will be gone.

But yeah, no Touch ID in iPhone X. Just Face ID which should be quite an improvement from the interaction model as mentioned by people who have used it in person.

Well said.

Let's stop with these naming nonsense. Just wait till September 12, okay? We can fantasize about these names.....

iPhone X is perfect. I've been calling it that for a long time and always felt it was the right name.

I understand that. I was more getting at the difference between the MacBook and MacBook Pro naming and what features really make them different. I think that the 'Pro' name has a different meaning these days. Just look at the PS4 Pro for example.

"People" does not follow rumors on blogs like us nerds. A new number is always more enticing for "People".

Since the black iPhone X looks so much like the iPhone 7 jet black, I'm predicting the silver color will be the most difficult to get this year.

Bingo! Surprised more don't comment about this tactic.
Apple has to justify buying the 8/plus at a premium price. If the 8 is just another iteration of the 6, with wireless charging, it might not sell. They need it to be such a significant upgrade that consumers will not buy the 7. Maybe promotion or true tone. More storage could also work.

In the Apple lineup, Pro doesn't mean pro. It just means the most expensive and the best.

And the beauty of "Pro" is that it gives a licence for people to buy the cheaper models (e.g. the supposed 8 and 8 Plus) without feeling inferior, because they rationalise it with "I don't need the Pro stuff".

The Pro name is some of Apple's finest marketing.
That doesn’t matter, it was never going to happen and never considered by Apple for this years anniversary model. Same applies for calling it ‘iPhone 8’ alongside a 7S lineup.

Wow if this is the case maybe they will drop the S model and innovate every year!
What? New design =/= innovation, the innovation happens in the S year. It’s just a name for crying out loud, they probably called it 8 because of the cluster#£&! of articles and videos saying Apple will release an ‘iPhone 8’, confusing consumers.

I think it will be iPhone Edition. If they call it iPhone X (ten), then what happens in 2 years time?
In 2 years time, it’s be the 9 unless they choose to ditch the S cycle altogether. They’d probably refer to it as iPhone ‘X’ not 10, because let’s face it, nobody is going to read it as 10, especially with other models in the lineup.
While both names were suitable and good choices, if they called it ‘Edition’, what would happen at the next significant anniversary???

So we're going to have an "eight" and a "ten" at the same time?

I really can't see that happening.
