All of these people on here not getting iPhone X makes me laugh.

X = 10

10 Years of the iPhone

All future models are likely to follow in Roman numerals.

So 2018’s iPhone is likely to be called: XI

Get an EDUCATION

Possible but unlikely - if you take Apple’s ‘X’ naming history into account. Both OS X and Final Cut Pro X kept the “X” nomenclature through major version upgrades (OS X went through almost a dozen major versions over as many years).

If this rumored naming holds next year will be interesting. I’d expect something like iPhone X Series 2 or just a return to iPhone (much like iPod and iPad).

I’ll lay it out for you.

iPhone X will basically be a special edition/ limited edition iPhone like an old U2 iPod. It will just be called “iPhone”. Which one? The 10 year anniversary Steve Jobs edition. What a better way to make more sales than to sell a more expensive limited or special edition iPhone along side the regular iPhones, and in another 10 years do the same.

iPhone X will be a collector item.

The other 2 iPhones will be called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8Plus, and in 2 years time or less they will drop the numbering system because honestly anything over iPhone 10 start sounding ridiculous. iPhone eleven? Twelve? Thirteen?

Remember you heard it from me first!

I know this is going to sound petty, but if they re design or improve the AirPods not even a year later, I’m going to flip my ****.

I love my AirPods, but god damn I shouldn’t be expected to spend $170 a year every time they update them.
Of all the updates, this one is the biggest....MEH. I barely use the AirPods I do have. I doubt there will be that compelling a reason to upgrade.

I have the theory that Apple would like to call their iPhones just iPhone, and maybe add an abbreviation like pro to some of the models like they do it with their MacBooks and now with their iPads. But they (or at least their marketing department) don't want to because they are scared that people are so used to the yearly increments of their biggest product that they would get confused and sales would be affected.

It's gotta be iPhone Pro, surely.
Pro was the most unlikely, horrible marketing term that anyone suggested for the iPhone. It will never ever happen. Hopefully people will give up on it now.

Well that and they know what good marketing is. Your idea is not good marketing. I can explain why if you want

Face palm. No. It's not a 'special edition' in any way. ITS THE 2017 IPHONE. In 2018 there will be a Plus-sized OLED with an identical design. These are simply the next iPhones, there's nothing limited edition or special about them. It's simply the iPhone 6 of the iPhone 5s year, or the iPhone 5 of the iPhone 4s year. Etc.

If the 8 plus has the new updated vertical cameras and 3d sensors, I’m all over it, forget the X, don’t need FaceID, don’t need OLED, don’t need bezel-less display.

Calling them all 8, means there is a great chance of this happening, especially if they are changing the back anyway.

The big selling point on the X will be the bezel-less design and OLED, so the 8plus could have everything but that.

Excited to see the 8plus features now.

I still say it's the 8 fpr the all new one, and Edition, as in SE for the 6/7. That just makes the most sense and in the long term simplifies things. Because, really? Do we expect a 6/7/8 S next year? No, it will just go the way of the SE and the C

Maybe the pricing won't be as expected. They could bring the SE or its successor to budget $2-300 levels, make the 8/8+ into the mid-range $500-600 and have the X at the usually high end price.

They'd be competing outside of their normal market which would be weird considering Apple has almost always been high end, but I just don't see the point of an expensive 8/+ when you can pay an extra $100 or so for the X.

This low - mid - high tier price structure would be wonderful.

Apparently both Apple and Microsoft hate the number 9. Don't really care what it's called though, as long as it ships September 22.

The issue for me is that they will likely release a bigger version next year (an iPhone X Plus so to speak), in a body large like the current Plus but with a giant screen (probably 6.5"). Any rumour on this?

Ha! Last time there's an iPhone 7S and iPhone 8 anniversary edition. Now we got iPhone X might as well sell different version this year from iPhone 6S to iPhone 10. I bet Timmy will be very happy and add more pink colors too and call it some kind of random working.

I see a merging of Apple and Tesla Motors comming, and then a smaller iPhone Y next year.

I honestly think they had zero intentions of releasing iPhone X, or whatever the hell they're going to call it. I would bet that we were going to get a 7S with some minor tweaks and then the iPhone "X" next year. So many tech sites and enthusiast have been yearning for a redesigned iPhone for years now. Between the tech media and fanboys hyping up this 10th anniversary iPhone, Apple almost had to do something. I won't be surprised by massive shortages and delayed shipping... This is what happens when you become stagnant and the competition is steadily evolving.

Funny, I'd say that if they come out with as many new things as they say on the X that it is a special edition.
I'm on the 6 though but it looks like quite a jump up from the 7 too.
It will be interesting to see if millions agree with me :)

iPhone Ten, not iPhone ex. As in ten year anniversary (2007-2017).

Kind of makes sense.
Heh or they'll combine it and call it the iPhone SEX!
You heard it here first!

Yeah I would have been furious. Now they are calling it the 8 instead I am totally OK with it. The name makes absolutely 0 difference. The 8 will still be inferior to the X. Changing the name doesn't make even the slightest difference.
All the other phone makers have lessor/cheaper models don't they?

This isn't 10. It's X. The X is representative of the tenth anniversary, not the 10th iPhone. Next year? iPhone 9.

In the Apple lineup, Pro doesn't mean pro. It just means the most expensive and the best.

And the beauty of "Pro" is that it gives a licence for people to buy the cheaper models (e.g. the supposed 8 and 8 Plus) without feeling inferior, because they rationalise it with "I don't need the Pro stuff".

The Pro name is some of Apple's finest marketing.

Most expensive and best? Don’t make me laugh. Professionals who use MacBook Pro for example, use it because it is more than sufficient to efficiently get their work done. I’d say that’s more than enough reason to give a product the moniker “Pro” having own the latest MacBook Pro with touchbar I could tell you that Pro is fitting. They are so fast and well optimized especially in video editing on Apple own software. It cuts through video editing like butter, that equally or more expensive windows machines cannot do with such ease. Not all of their products receive timely updates, but when they do and is released, at that very moment and for the next year I say it definitely deserve to be called pro.

Exactly. Just look at how ridiculous the Super Bowl has become.
