At least they are taking risks with some interesting technology in Vista. And there is interesting tech in Vista.

There a plenty of interesting technologies in Leopard, so that statement doesn't really stand up to any sort of critical analysis.

Especially when many of the "interesting" technologies you cite in Vista are really just MS playing catch up with what else is available.

I never argued that there was no functionality; however, with that included - there's still 199 so-called top secret features left.

We did know about them this summer, and people were/are still expecting 200+ features.

What is so earth-shattering about Leopard? It just seems like Tiger with a new face (kind of like another OS I know of...)

I think you have got two things confused:

[1] Steve Jobs said there were some top secret features in Leopard. These were revealed at WWDC 2007 as the new Finder and the new Dock featuring Stacks.

[2] A separate claim was that there were 200 new features. Quite what counts as a feature depends. Do you count the new Finder as a feature (a whole new app) or do you count inline editing in iCal as a feature (an addition to a current app). Either way, none of these were claimed to be top secret.

Well, if it's 200+ features without the "top secret" inclusion, then this tidbit of information changes a couple of things... Appreciate the clarification.

They practically have every language on the welcome screen but Arabic, I really think that's not cool. Arabic is a major language in the world and Apple should have acknowledged its existence in the welcome screen.

Apple has quite a strong presence in parts of the Middle East, I know many publishing companies in the middle east that rely solely on Macs.

Personally I have switched my entire company into using Macs, just doesn't feel nice to have my language to be left out. No big deal, but would have been nice

As'salaamualaikum/Ehlen wa'sah len

(For everyone else: that's "hello" in Arabic)

Screenshot Malarky...

I have to agree with what one of the previous posters on this thread has said... What is the obsession with taking screen shots of System preferences, Parental Controls, Empty desktops etc etc?! When there are so many things we have have seen little of - i.e. - adding new events to iCal, iCal drop box, iCal itself! Quicklook, What options are there for stacks? Finder window - searches, burn folders, saved searches, coverflow with Quicklook etc etc, Screensharing, Back to my Mac, How does an email sent via the new Mail.app using stationery look in gmail? hotmail? iChat quicklook... Spaces in action with itunes, quicktime, photoshop etc etc etc etc...

I can imagine there's a lot covered by NDA's, but if someone is going to go to the trouble of taking screenshots and then posting them - post something we haven't seen! And don't use an image upload service that is crippled (looking at you imageshack!)

Does anyone have an image of the new sound bezel?!?! :p

Does Front Row Actually work now?

It's pretty terrible in Tiger, slow, freezes for minutes, crashes a lot...

So here's 3 question to the people that have the latest Leopard version:

1. Does it look and work like AppleTV's interface?
2. Does it work? I.e. is it responsive and stable?
3. Does it work with Perian 1.0? So I can play all my videos?

Thanks.

I'm still wondering whether I'll use the default folders, or some from the Agua iconset...

This is sort of off topic, sorry but I want to make a correction.

To whoever said that you can't put the date in the menubar, you can here's how:

Go into the international preferences pane in System Preferences and click on the formats tab

Click Customize under the dates section. In the drop down box select medium. In the field under the drop down box highlight the Month and date boxes as if you were highlighting text. Right Click and select copy. Click the cancel button.

Now back in the formats tab click customize under the Times section. Select Medium. Click in the field where you want the date to go, right click and select paste. Now add any formating you're going to want such as commas and spaces. You will most likely want to put a comma and space in as the first characters in the field as the date and time will display in the menubar after the day of the week. The field when you are done should look something like this: ", Jan 5, 7: 08: 09 PM". When you are done click OK.

Its as easy as that. The only problem with this method is that I do not know if it will work in Leopard, but as far as Tiger is concerned-it is a grand work-around.

EDIT: Nevermind, simX beat me to it

Except that is does not work for a lot of people as the comment on macosxhints show. It also does not work for me. There is the notion that it does not work for non-US set-ups.

Well, you get a mini preview of the actual window. A minimized iCal window with green stuff in it tells you you have an office appointment for example. And especially now that icons are 512x512, the mini previews are actually useful :D

Not really if you use the Month view.

If it was Vista that behaved that way we'd never stop making fun of it -- I don't see why Apple should get a free pass for such a boneheaded thing. Sure, if you run iCal you don't experience the bug. That doesn't mean that it's not really stupid behavior otherwise. It's bad design no matter how you look at it.

Heck, it'd be better if iCal didn't show any date at all than for it to show the wrong date.

Well, Mail does not show the number of unread e-mails when it is not running.
