Except that is does not work for a lot of people as the comment on macosxhints show. It also does not work for me. There is the notion that it does not work for non-US set-ups.

it works for me and i'm spanish....

Well I guess that means no leopard for me, I don't want to lose iCal day!

Well, we could hack the new version to display an iCal day icon on Jul 17.

I wonder if there is a folder with all the day icons or if they are rendered dynamically somehow, just inserting the month and day...

Good choice. I am always looking for songs with no words that have repetitive parts like that. They go well with iPhoto slide shows. I have found most songs by John Williams fit well, such as the Back to the Future theme. Superman would probably fit perfectly with the OS X intro. Mostly they are designed to play during the opening credits so you can see why those types of songs would work well for these applications.

Why even bother to bring back iCal day? A dynamically changing icon is much more functional... heh heh.

I can almost promise you that there is a process running in the background to make that happen, that's the only way I can think they would have done it. Unless the clock process (that's running already) pushes it to it. If it's the first one you're wasting some resources in making a dock have the date...

Not at all, at least not a special process.

On startup, initialize the icon with the current date, and add a task to the chron daemon to update it every midnight. No big deal, as chron is running anyway.

Cheers!

I agree...something like this. :D

This is fantastic (and the video!). It would make a great ringtone!

I've actually had the UFO theme on my phone as its ringtone for over a year now. :)

On a side note, why doesn't YouTube list any of these other intro videos in the "Related" box?

I'm trying to keep a list of them on my blog, so keep them coming (though I'm about to go to bed). I'm hoping the links provide enough information for crediting the great work you guys have done.

iChat Screen Sharing

So in this latest build, can someone check to see if iChat has the screen sharing function? I realize they've added the function into the Finder (and dropped references to it in the iChat descriptions on apple.com), but I am still holding out hope that it will be in iChat, just so that it can work easily behind routers.

The Back the the Future music is by Alan Silvestri, not John Williams ;) And yeah, the Superman theme would probably fit very well in the intro!

Screen Sharing is all well and good, but I want them to add similar functionality in other apps. I want GarageBand to have the ability to have multi-user jam sessions not only for those on the same network but also for those in your iChat buddy lists. Jamming with friends across the globe would be quite the trick!

GoogleBand would be fantastic...along with GoogleDocs etc :)

Ok, honestly, who cares about the intro music? You'll only ever hear it once in your life (if you're not a Developer), so what's the big deal?

Otherwise, the new icons look cool, and I have yet to find the new desktop pictures... Anyone? Hopefully ThinkSecret posts a gallery of some sort, even if it's a small one.

Hmm, the authorized Apple repair techs probably wish they could vote on the intro music. Some of them probably get to hear at least the front end of it many times every day.   Anyway, attention to that music is part of design effort and just another of the fine details that make Apple Apple and generate wonderfully ridiculous amounts of buzz. :)

The state of resolution independance.

Oh, I have a John Williams album I just assumed all of the songs on it were his but I guess he was just conducting his favorites.

... I'm getting really impatient, it seems like I've been waiting forever for 10.5.!

I'm having to think harder about getting an Intel machine to get the full experience of Leopard. I still have only G4 powerbooks, holding out for a 12" MBP variant. So I'm impatient too, but it's not just about the OS this time around.
