OMG!!!!!! Why has it taken so many years for this?

-Will

I can almost promise you that there is a process running in the background to make that happen, that's the only way I can think they would have done it. Unless the clock process (that's running already) pushes it to it. If it's the first one you're wasting some resources in making a dock have the date...

How is Boot Camp in Leopard? Is it still a separate app? How is it integrated. Didn't SJ state that it would be fully integrated, no need to burn driver disks for Windows etc. How does BC work now? Questions. Questions :p

Same questions here! How is BOOTCAMP!?!?!

Yay, I can not wait for leapard to come! JW, this would be my firt time with a mac upgrading the OS, is it safe to wait a month or 2 for them to fix problems ro wat...?

I find it amusing how so many people seem to think Leopard is just about pretty icons and intro music.

Really that sort of stuff is just a small part of what the OS update is about.

It's about giving developers the best possible tools and technologies to create wonderful software for the Mac.

No doubt the iCal thing was implemented shortly after this was read, as others has pointed out.

The interesting thing is that it should allow for other apps to update when they are not open too. There must be other cases where this could be useful, although I can't think of any now?

This is sort of off topic, sorry but I want to make a correction.

To whoever said that you can't put the date in the menubar, you can here's how:

Go into the international preferences pane in System Preferences and click on the formats tab

Click Customize under the dates section. In the drop down box select medium. In the field under the drop down box highlight the Month and date boxes as if you were highlighting text. Right Click and select copy. Click the cancel button.

Now back in the formats tab click customize under the Times section. Select Medium. Click in the field where you want the date to go, right click and select paste. Now add any formating you're going to want such as commas and spaces. You will most likely want to put a comma and space in as the first characters in the field as the date and time will display in the menubar after the day of the week. The field when you are done should look something like this: ", Jan 5, 7: 08: 09 PM". When you are done click OK.

Its as easy as that. The only problem with this method is that I do not know if it will work in Leopard, but as far as Tiger is concerned-it is a grand work-around.

EDIT: Nevermind, simX beat me to it

Maybe Candybar will not have to relaunch the dock for changes to take place, or some apps like Adium with built-in icon changing...

it's wrong... and now when i get Tiger it's going to drive me CRAZY everytime i look at it... but obsessions aside, i'm sure they can automate it to make it look correct...

What's wrong with it? If you had a 2D picture of a trash can (which is what the icon is) that's exactly what it's reflection would look like.

It really depends on how anxious you are. Some people like to wait, others like me don't. Personally, I always upgrade immediately to the latest and greatest. Did it with Panther and Tiger... and had no issues at all. The anticipation for Leopard is killing me. :p

The trash icon looks like a 3D representation albeit in 2D, its got perspective. Most other app icons look flat in the Dock, thats why the shadow of the trash icon looks all wrong. The shadows behind the dock icons look worse though.

I have to admit I noticed the trash icon looked off from the rest. Definitely a different perspective.

So looking good for release this year.

I think its pretty clear that the new MacBooks (Pro) are awaiting leopard because they have hardware that needs it (touchpad).

What is the benefit of minimising iCal instead of hiding it? Any app that only has one window open gains nothing from being minimized.

Well, you get a mini preview of the actual window. A minimized iCal window with green stuff in it tells you you have an office appointment for example. And especially now that icons are 512x512, the mini previews are actually useful :D
