I had a reservation for a pre-order, I arrived on time, and was promptly greeted with a line of 100 people and an estimated 3 hour wait time in Atlanta. I'm kind of annoyed because it was a waste of a cab ride and I was pretty tired from work. Not pissed, but annoyed that they didn't notify me beforehand.

They told me to come back this weekend, and next time I'm calling ahead.

I'm really trying to understand this phenomenon. It's been what, 10 years of the Iphone. This happens every year. Yet there is still anger and surprise that there is a lack of stock. Every year the same thing. You're trying to buy a popular item on the first day of sale. This is not just an Iphone problem. Any popular item on the first day of availability is a tough purchase. Do any of you remember when some popular car models would go on sale and dealers would charge above list price?

I can tell you as someone who has purchased every iPhone on release day that this has been BY FAR the worst experience

UPS delayed my iPhone package till Monday.. for "reasons requested by receiver". I never contacted them! this is the worst news for an early adopter.
From Canada here, and it was supposed to be my gift for my sister at her wedding.. so annoyed.
Why don't Apple switch to other companies? All shipments I had with them have been trouble.
Why don't you just request they hold it at the Hub, and go pick it up in person tomorrow?

I guess it's worse than usual. I've bought two Iphones on release day, one shipped and received on time and one picked up at the ATT store on time. I decided not to even try it with my 6. I got it when there was stock about 2 months after release. I've never bought an S model (owned 1 through 6).

I'm 99% sure this is sarcastic, but because of the the internet's masking of sarcasm, I have to comment that when I asked if I could do that for a package that was delayed by a week, UPS basically told me to **** off.

I don't know about it being the worst launch, but it's definitely the worst I've experienced (5 and 6 launch day pre-orders were both delivered fine). The biggest problem I see with this launch is that it's become quite clear they had nowhere near the amount of 7plus Jet Black models to ship in such a short window (I'm not even sure I've seen one person post about having received one today. Considering it was (and still is) the model that Apple and carriers have been using as the poster child of the 7 series, it's pretty terrible that Apple wasn't even able to ship out more than what seems like a handful of them for launch day. The fact that I got my order in 15 minutes past the opening of pre-orders and was given a window in the middle of October is pretty frustrating. With that sort of timeframe, why even bother with a pre-order? At least if they were up-front about it, people could have chosen something else, or simply not to stay up late on a work night. I suppose I should be happy it's not as bad as the elusive white iPhone 4, which was just brushed under the rug for 9 months, but at this point, they've got far too much experience with phone launches for this to still be an issue.

You always had wireless, so the headphone jack wasnt impeding.
Sony and Samsung both have had waterproof phones with headphones jacks, so it's not impeding.
Battery life shouldn't depend on the size of the battery when it cuts out the headphone jack.

More importantly, they could have just made the phone slightly thicker for a bigger battery, at 7mm, it's slim enough.

This is all intentional by Apple to get more money. They dont care about consumers or industry standards.

Thanks.. i was having a rough day, needed a good laugh...

Somebody please tell me how to get an iPhone 7 on the iPhone Upgrade Program with T-Mobile. My iPhone 5 is on its last legs.

Sept 9, midnight: No Upgrade Program pre-order available for T-Mobile customers.

Sept 13, morning: Call 1-800-MY-APPLE. They tell me I have to pre-order at the Apple Store.

Sept 13, evening: Drive 25 miles to Apple Store. They tell me:
* I can't sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Program as a T-Mobile customer until they have stock at the store.
* My iPhone 5 is dying. Can I buy an iPhone 6s on the Upgrade Program? No. Last week I could have, but not after the iPhone 7 announcement.
* They say I could buy an iPhone 6s at full cost and return it at no cost within 14 days. Can they guarantee that they would have a 7 to exchange it for in two weeks. No. I'd be stuck.
* They say I could buy an iPhone 7 at full cost. When it comes in, I could convert it to the upgrade program. I ask the "greeter" to introduce me to the sales person who would take the order. "Sorry", she says, "you have to do it online. You can use our computers." I leave.

Sept 15: Load my iPad Pro with iOS 10 and link a credit card to my wallet. Open the Apple Store App. Select the iPhone 7 to buy (at full price) with the intent to convert it to the iPhone Upgrade Program when I pick it up at the store. Shipping options: to my house only. No store pickup available. (I want store pickup so I can convert to the Upgrade Program before I take possession of it, so I can cancel the order, if needed) Quit the app without checking out.

So I can't pre-order. I can't buy online on the Upgrade Program. I can't buy at full price and ship to store. I can only get the upgrade program in-store when the have stock. They have the iPhone 6 in stock, but I can't get it on the upgrade program. When they finally get iPhone 7 in stock, I have to drive 20 miles and hope they aren't sold out before I get there. All the while, my iPhone 5 is on life support.

It seems that there is no reasonable process for T-Mobile customers to get on the Upgrade Program. All roads are closed. And 1-800-MY-APPLE gave me incorrect information that put me on a 40-mile round trip goose chase. Customer service at the store is limited to a "greeter", but no human sales people. And I should mention that because my store in in Portland, OR, Apple limits stock to discourage "sharks" who buy without sales tax and sell the phone at a higher price in sales tax states. Yeah, I could change carriers, except T-Mobile is the only carrier with a good signal at my house.

Please Apple and T-Mobile, get your crap together. Frankly, I blame Apple. They could easily take my money as a deposit for a reservation. That has nothing to do with T-Mobile.

Anybody got any suggestions?

I didn't read the whole thread to see if someone responded to you but I've been told you can make a reservation starting tomorrow and sign up for the upgrade program once you pick it up in store. You can also buy the t-mobile version full price and when you get it take it to the apple store and tell them you want to do the upgrade program. With this option you may have to let them do a return and then turn around and buy it right away with the upgrade program. Not a great process but I think it's something on tmobile hindering us, not apple.

This was the view from the SanLitun Apple store in Beijing on Friday evening. It was really funny to see people taking pictures of the new iPhone. What I found the most infuriating that most of the display models were at 0% battery charge. It made it hard to check out the new features. lol

So true. I think Apple is definitely playing us.

Yours is the first response... and an excellent one at that! Reserving the phone for pickup and Upgrade Program registration is exactly what I'm looking for. I don't need to be the first guy on the block, but I don't want to take all the right steps and be last in line either. And I certainly don't want to drive downtown to find no stock when I arrive.

I'll check to see if I can reserve one tomorrow and will post the results. Thanks!

Walked to TMobile targeted Store in a small neighborhood where people still use flip phone walked out with iPhone 7Plus 128 GB
I was surprised to see almost no line at my store. I came to see if they had a Watch I wanted (they did). There were maybe 30 people in mine for iPhone at 8:30am.
Overall there was a relatively small number of buyers in line or arriving at stores to buy iPhone 7 today. Probably the softest iPhone launch thus far.

Given the modest improvements and same old design, it's understandable that interest was tepid.

Second that. Except I didn't jump into the fray until the 3G. Not sure where the breakdown was but clearly something went wrong. I'm just glad I got my phone.

That store is constant claustrophobic nightmare. Even when you go months after product launches, it's crammed. But the mall has a Burger King, so it's cool.
