They clearly have enormous confidence in its quality to delay it to 27'. The field is saturated with uninspired Chinese and Korean foldables so this will redefine the segment.

People always overestimate the impact of individual products and underestimate the power of network effects.

Most iPhone users have been using iOS exclusively for years and years, which means they've invested in: apps, subscriptions, muscle memory.

Personally, I can't imagine there being an Android phone so amazing I'd ever ditch iOS for Android for.
I thought the same thing, until I tried the Z Fold 3 and it was nothing compared to the Z Fold 7 I have now. I owned every iPhone from the 4 to the 12 PM before I jumped over to Android. I've owned 10 different foldables and 2 different flips now, and I don't regret leaving iOS at all. I will definitely give the Apple foldable a shot, as long as it is a book style foldable. However, with iOS going downhill over the years and Android continuing to get better, I'm not sure I will end up keeping the Apple foldable. Time will tell though. The bottom line for me is I am beholden to no company. I use whatever desktop/laptop/smartphone etc. I like the best, regardless of who makes it.

In the smartphone business, specifications are typically frozen 12-18 months before launch. Major components (processor, display, camera sensors, etc) are locked even earlier, usually 18-24 months in advance.

But considering this is a totally new device category for Apple where spec freezing is likely to happen even earlier, there is NO WAY they are still debating whether or not to launch this in 2026.

Whether the foldable phone (iFold lol) comes out in 2026 or not, that decision has been made long ago.
Bingo! These “delays,” are nothing more than Apple’s tutti-fruitti, phoney-baloney, plastic banana, good time, rock-n-roll PR to build hype. Apple’s PR wants to create the impression that Apple is this tiny startup on the bleeding edge. Because of this, golly gee whiz, Apple discovers at the very last minute that these incredible, ALL NEW features/products/etc. just weren’t quite ready, so they had to delay.

In reality, all of their development and manufacturing follows a precise timeline and pattern.

Can something that never was announced be delayed? Maybe it was always targeted for 2027 and rumors just had it wrong?
They are internal targets and milestones, so yes, things that are never announced can be delayed. Whether the rumor is true or not, we will never know. I could be targeted for 2028 for all we know.

I’m going to say lol because I don’t want this iPhone to be released…

It’s going to look like Apple copy android.
who cares if Apple copies android or anyone else? Why does that really matter to you. If the product suits your needs then great, if not who cares.

I wonder if they are having trouble making a folding display without the noticeable ridge in the display when laying flat. Apple generally does wonders with hardware and sets the bar high so I can't see them releasing this if the display is basically the same as everyone else's. They will have some solution for the crease in the display is what I am imagining and maybe it is proving harder then they anticipated.

I wouldn’t believe the Delay or Fold dimensions unless Kuo or Gurman stated so…
I mean neither of them has a perfect record either. Gurman recently said the M5 iPad Pro would have 2 cameras on the front and it doesn't. And that was for a product about to launch, not one 1-2 years away. If he can't even get that right...

Well that doesn’t bode well for the 20th anniversary iPhone that’s meant to be a radical all-glass redesign, as this foldable will also be a radical redesign for the iPhone. And they will surely not leave out the cheap segment of the market with a more “normal” iPhone. I don’t see them releasing two “weird” iPhones. So. Not sure where that leaves us if a foldable doesn’t launch in 2026

Does it count as a delay if they haven't even announced the product? Lots of folks take rumoured and speculated release dates to heart and then feel like they've been let down when a product doesn't come out "on time".

IF this is true, are we now going to acknowlege that there is a serious problem at the moment with Apple getting new products to market? As a stockholder im actually concerned. Short term, sure they are making a profit but long term it looks like they are going to be left in the dust.

Yes it does because there’s such thing as a product roadmap, whether that roadmap becomes public knowledge or not.

What delay?

Nothing has been announced.

These are rumored internal timelines and those almost always change, because reality is often infinitely more complex than our plans.
You are thinking with the mind of a consumer and not an investor.
