From a reliable source close to the project, the hinge isn’t the issue the actual screen is. The so-called “crease-free” display doesn’t withstand the number of bends Apple projected; the crease becomes noticeably larger and more visible, failing to pass quality control.

But Mark Gurman said it was definitely 2026,..so he MUST be right & this guy wrong…just like the 2 iPad Pro cameras 🙄🤦‍♂️
Bloomberg wanna PR and traffic … do not trust anything from their employees… dead media … listen to real G one, like Gamer Nexus

IF this is true, are we now going to acknowlege that there is a serious problem at the moment with Apple getting new products to market? As a stockholder im actually concerned. Short term, sure they are making a profit but long term it looks like they are going to be left in the dust.
I love people that say as a stock holder as if that is a big deal or what you say should have more weight. You need to have quite a few shared before you should be concerned and maybe you do but it I still find it funny when people say that.

Nooo. Oh well, my Mini will have to last another year then. Thanks for saving me money, Tim. Also:

"The device is expected to feature a 7.58-inch inner display and a 5.38-inch outer display."

It shrank? or is there a new rumour I missed?

The outer screen is the same as in iPhone mini!
No it's not. Fold outer screen vs. mini:

Does it count as a delay if they haven't even announced the product? Lots of folks take rumoured and speculated release dates to heart and then feel like they've been let down when a product doesn't come out "on time".
The rumor was that the release is planned for 2026. The rumor now is that the release may be pushed to 2027. That's a rumored delay with respect to the originally rumored planning. We're on MacRumors, remember?

Eh sure having 100 shares would mean nothing to Apple but it would mean something to the shareholder themselves if we're talking retail investors and that's what the person you replied to was saying.

Ultimately a folding spoon is still just a spoon.

I can see the appeal of a foldable phone but the prospect of essentially having the display plastic from a Gameboy in the centre doesn’t fill be with confidence. I was wondering how the IP68 Pixel Fold would fare but it appears to be exploding in popularity.

Ultimately I and many others are still better served by buying an iPhone 17 and an iPad Mini. If you’re going somewhere or doing something that needs that larger screen, you likely have a bag of some sort in tow and the Mini takes up very little space. You’ve also got all-glass displays, two points of battery failure and better cameras. It’s quite telling that all the YouTubers who had ‘gone Fold’ a few months ago are no longer brandishing those devices.

The launch of Apple's first foldable iPhone could be delayed to 2027, according to Japan's Mizuho Securities (via The Elec).

Foldable-iPhone-2023-Feature-Iridescent-1.jpg

The investment banking and securities firm suggested that a potential postponement could be due to Apple taking longer to decide on key design elements such as the hinge. The device is expected to feature a 7.58-inch inner display and a 5.38-inch outer display.

The report added that expected production of display panels for the foldable iPhone have now decreased from 13 million to nine million units. A launch in 2026 is still said to be possible, but if it goes ahead as planned, device production in the first year of release may lag behind panel production by as much as five to seven million units.

The firm corroborated reports that Apple plans to delay the launch of the iPhone 18 to the spring of 2027, launching alongside the iPhone 18e. The iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max are scheduled to launch in the fall of 2026, likely alongside the first foldable iPhone if it is not delayed.

Further in the future, Apple is apparently developing new technology for the iPhone 19 lineup, treating the model as a special release due to it falling upon the 20th anniversary of the iPhone. Moreover, Apple will apparently reduce the price of the second foldable iPhone, which will likely launch in the fall of 2027 if the first model isn't delayed.

Mizuho Securities also noted that there is now movement in the supply chain to resume work on a 18.9-inch foldable MacBook for release around 2028 or 2029 at the earliest.

Lmao. Can’t make this up. First of all nothing is considered delayed if it hasn’t been formally announced. But who cares, Apple is 5-8 years late to the game anyways.

Yeah, this is new, previously it was 7.76" and 5.49".

Clearly you are waiting for it wrong. It is a mystical ride to new products that is a feature not a bug. Better to get it right than not at all, but lately it is hard to discern the difference with Apple. Just as long as it is thinner.

i have already lost interest in something that is plagued with build problems.

Give me a candy bar phone any day, it seems Apple tech ethos is at a turning point.

Who would have thought of the day Apple would be releasing folding phones & touchscreen macbook pros.

Not falling for this gimmick glad its delayed Apple shouldn't waist their money
If you think it’s a gimmick, how will delaying the foldable iPhone reduce costs? Unless Apple cancels the project, it’s still going to consume resources.

I truly hope this is not a accurate leak, I am so excited for the fold and all rumors for the past year have pointed to a September 2026 launch. :(

What is the point of a foldable phone?

When it’s closed, it’s just a thick phone. When it’s open, it’s an awkward aspect ratio’d tablet. Not to mention the durability concerns.

And for what?

Watching videos? Not really… The aspect ratio will just cause massive black bars, so you’re not really gaining anything.

Two apps open side-by-side? Maybe… I guess?

Reading? That seems to be the only viable use case. But how often are you spending hours reading on your phone, compared to everything else you do on a daily basis? How often would the larger screen realistically be used as opposed to the outer screen?

I hope someone can explain why people want these so badly, because I seriously just can’t see the purpose. The downsides far outweigh any positives I can think of.
