"Launcher" permanently removed from the app store

That's not really what that post was in reply to.

That said, Apple has their own ideas of what they want to have and don't wan to have--that's how it's always been--and in this case they don't want to have this type of functionality offered a by a third party app through a widget. Again, that's not to say it's right or wrong, just that's how it is, and it's hardly new or surprising in any way really.

I guess I don't really see the point of your comments, and perhaps I misunderstood your first one. We are voicing our opinion here about an action by Apple that we disagree with. You are right, that is "just how it is", but if we don't voice in our opinions in any way, how can we expect apple to change in a way we perceive to be beneficial?

It seems that this isn't a change that you want or care about, but it certainly can't hurt you for this feature to be available for those that do want it.

For those that are saying Apple will add this feature in a future update. That may be the case, but why should we have to wait another year for apple to add it to iOS 9, when it is clearly possible now.

If the app were somehow detrimental to the phone or it's users, I could see Apple removing it. But to take away a perfectly good app that is optional, and of benefit to some users, because it isn't how Apple thinks widgets should work, is just disrespectful to the consumer.

My comment is to say that while all of what people are saying is understandable, the outrage some people seem to feel about what happened seems at least somewhat if not quite a bit extreme and unnecessary--something like this isn't all that surprising or new.

This is so stupid. Apple, just when you were starting to loosen up!

Oh well, at least I got my pro version!

You are incorrect. This is different. Or you wouldn't see this type of "outrage" and online petitions. They've done wrong and people are fed up. If you don't agree then that's fine. But let us be pissed.

Lesser things upset people and even end up with petitions. And it's fine to be upset I guess. Again mainly pointing out that anyone who follows Apple and iOS wouldn't or shouldn't be surprised by this--what ended up happening was ptetty much the second thought that crossed my mind after I came across this app and what it could do with the new widget functionality (the first one being about all the possibilities this opened up).

Ok I sent an Email to time took and I signed it. But theres only about 320 people who did. We need a **** ton of people to even look at it. SHARE IT PEOPLE LETS GET AS MANY PEOPLE TO SIGN IT AS WE POSSIBLY CAN

Excellent! Yes get as many as possible.. I just retweeted the tweet too

Who are we kidding?..............

Apple haven't listened to the millions regarding our thoughts on improving the iPhone, why are they going to listen to the minority over one app.

For what its worth, I've signed the petition and tweeted the link to the followers I have.

Any developers out there who can answer a question?

Q: If you develop an app and its approved for the app store and you want to charge £1.99 for the app, what percentage of the £1.99 goes in to iTunes/Apple's back pocket?

As I'm sure those who have paid for this app have a right to claim iTunes/Apple percentage back considering the app will have no further updates (although the developer has said he would continue to add further apps to the database when possible).

I could be off on this, but I believe Apple takes 30%.

Bit of a piss take really isn't it?

I was just looking back at some of my old posts back in my iPhone 4 (JB) days when I purchased InteliscreenX, this was around the time when Apple released the notification screen.

From this app (on the notification screen) you could access other apps, send messages, make calls etc........ this was years ago and Apple are still not letting you do any of this so nothings going to change, certainly not overnight.

for what its worth, here is a screen shot from my iPhone 4 with InteliscreenX

Sorry if this has been asked already, I read most of the thread and couldn't see any mention...

If I needed to reinstall this app from I backup IPA file I'm assuming there would be no way to restore my pro version?

You need to do an entire backup of the IPA and data with a third party app probably.

I've signed the petition and emailed Tim Cook. I'm also going to reach to some Tech news outlets to see if they'll pick this up as well.

InteliscreenX was FAR superior to notification center, THAT is exactly the type of company Apple needs to buy out and implement their design!!

Exactly!!

But as mentioned, that screenshot was taken over 2 years ago. How long do they need to see something which would improve any iPhone.

Are we all happy to wait another year, two years for IOS9, IOS10 in the hope they bring these little things we want?

Its not like this app allows you to steal people's passwords or piggieback on to people's secure wifi signals........ It simply opens apps!!!!

NEWS AT 10:

"A gentleman was in court today after being caught opening an app on his iPhone from the notification screen..........."

You guys may want to check out "Quicktap". It's still available in the App Store.

It doesn't offer all the functions of launcher but at least some basics.

It is a nice start but really needs the ability to launch more apps. It covers things like contact interaction though which Launcher also does and could be useful for some.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned but what about Evernote? Their today widget also launches an application, namely Evernote.

A widget can launch it's own parent app.
This is why the developer changed the Launcher widget to launch the Launcher app and then route to the target application but that update was never reviewed and Apple pulled the Launcher app.

Ew ew ew.

I signed the petition!

I downloaded Launcher after reading an article on it. I seldom browse the App store looking for stuff to buy. My phone has minimal Apps that I consider productive and useful and Launcher was one of the best!

Hop it returns!

I believe Apple was developing something similar and thats why they pulled it!
