Unless you live in the City/County where this is taking place, it's not your tax money being spent.

You're not a lawyer are you?By legal definition if you set something down and someone else picks it up its stolen so he is right!
Gizmodo made a lot of money from ad revenue at the expense of Apple.
And I highly doubt Apple considers that "free advertising."
still they got it and even though it was leaked it got us hyped up
From the same crowd that endlessly speculates & breaks down every supposed Best Buy inventory screen shot & NOW you are mad someone gave you a legit sneak peek two months early???? Give it a rest people. The engineer is a Apple employee= HE IS APPLE. APPLE LOST THE PHONE. APPLE IGNORED MULTIPLE REQUESTS TO RETURN THE DEVICE. APPLE NEEDS TO SHUT UP & GO BACK TO COUNTING THEIR MONEY.
Speak for yourself. I am not hyped. Who knows if this will be what is released in June.
And please explain how this is advertising for Apple.

We really need to remember the real victims in all this. The poor SOB maintaining this forum and its server!
"WHAT THE F.... 500 COMMENTS...THE STORY WAS ONLY POSTED 5 MINITES AGO!!"
I can't believe that the idiot who found the phone didn't realize that his legal fees are probably going to cost him more than $5,000.
Even if he doesn't get in trouble in the end you just know this will end up costing more than that by the end.
You're kidding, right?
you haven't seen this story mentioned in every type of news media this last week? you haven't seen the tv news, the countless internet mentions, the newpaper and magazine blurbs?
you haven't heard people talking about this situation?
you can't be THAT sequestered. this has been a top news story for over a week. if that's not advertising for apple... WTF is it?
this is a perfect case of perfectly waste of court time.
the phone was lost, not stolen.

Stolen does not mean "ripped out of your hands" or "snuck out of your pocket." Theft occurs whenever someone takes something they know that doesn't belong to them, and converts it to their own use.

while right, i would venture most people if asked, would assume it's lost and not stolen. doesnt mean thats an excuse but the legal definitions are not known to most people
Actually, no. The locals always stop by for halloween trick or treat and stuff. He's actually reasonably approachable, all things considered.
I also bet people if asked would agree that the person who found said lost item made no real attempt to return the lost item and sold it would agree it is wrong.
Please explain to me how someone losing an item, another finding it equates to theft.
