They do 16:10 because then if you're working with video or pictures in widescreen format there's a place for your toolbar on the side. So I don't see that changing.

I think they're real. It's obvious to me that there's foam covering up the leftmost part of that one picture. If you extend the sides and cross through the apple from the side that you see, the screen ends up in the right ratio too.
Same for the centering of the MB logo. If you actually work out the vanishing point for the sides, and draw a line through that and the iSight, you'll see it's centered.

So for I see nothing unbelievable.

This is great for macbooks, but what about macbook pros? Are we going to see an update in the case morphology for that too?

Well, we've already seen leaks of the MBP case (from the same blog, right?), so I would say so. Obviously, it won't be as big of a change since the MBP is already in aluminum.

Overall, it seems like the entire notebook line is going with a tapered aluminum look. Seems to me like the Air, Pro, and Macbook are meaning less and less...I wouldn't be surprised if they change what designates Pro to power and performance rather than screen size and case material (obviously the latter is the same in all three cases). Thus:

Macbook Air: 13.3", no optical disc drive, lower performance, targeting the road warrior

Macbook: 13.3" and 15" options, a variety of processor/hard drive options, integrated graphics (perhaps with nVidia chipset, the IG will be better?), still targeting the consumer, student, etc.

Macbook Pro: 13.3", 15", 17" options, high end processor/hard drive options, discrete graphics processors (still potentially with nVidia chipsets), superior monitors (matte option, obviously, for graphic designers, etc.), targeting prosumers, pro users, creative designers, etc.

I realize this isn't the first time this sort of revamped product line has been bounced around before, but with these new leaks, it seems likelier than ever.

I'm expecting that.

This would also imply that we will see increased gaps between processor speed, RAM, HD, chipset (if Apple is developing their own), and display.

And did I forget the graphics card? This just means goodbye to any possibility of a discrete GPU in the MacBook.

My wishlist (which most likely won't happen):

I don't get it, why only the high end Mb would get 200$ more expensive and the middle class 100 and the cheapest one 0$
doesn't make sense

Real

These pictures are most likely real
I mean they are not Mb AIR (thickness + the word MacBook)
Even if they're not, the new ones will look almost exactly like these:D

Make it quick Apple;)

+1 yup I agree. Imo the vanishing point mockup is the one that seems the most accurate to me... and it comes out centred.

is it me or is the apple logo off?

It's you. :)

The left half of the case in the picture appears to be covered with some sort of packing material, so imagine that the Apple is in the correct location, and you can see that it would make sense.

doesn't it make more sense to take the picture of the whole thing, and not cover half of it with foam?

Sorry but I saw the foam right off too.

The thing is, if you look at those pictures thinking "they must be fake!" you look for things that support your theory - like "the apple logo is off-centered! I'm Right!"

If you think they're not (raises hand) then you look at that and thing, why does this look off center... ahh that bit of foam is covering up the left side of it, of course.

And when you're taking pictures when you're obviously not supposed to I don't think you can spend an hour framing and lighting them. The person that took these probably had to like whip the camera out snap and hide it again. Touching the cases to move the foam or whatever would have also given away what they were doing.

They do 16:10 because then if you're working with video or pictures in widescreen format there's a place for your toolbar on the side. So I don't see that changing.

16:10 creates extra space top and bottom not on the sides.

all computer screens are going to transition to 16:9 for reasons of cost, it's cheaper for manufacturers to have to deal with one shape of panel - are you willing to pay a premium for a weird ratio?

I'd MUCH rather have a 16:9 screen as I work with video and widescreen things not having the correct size of bars etc, because of computer screens that are the wrong shape compared to the TV screens I'm preparing for...

I'm fine with 16:9 as long as the resolution increases, I don't want 1280·720 in my MacBook.

Estimated News Release

Hi, I am going to hold out for this new MacBook if it kills me these next 2 months. I think end of Sept. is a good estimate. I have been reading a lot of these posts and articles on the rumors. However, no one ever mentions what is Apple's usual news release date prior to their product launch?

Meaning, what is the norm for Apple? Do they usually start promoting and releasing product info 2 months, 1 month, or 2 weeks before the release date of that product? I just want to know when to expect some answers!!!

Well they usually announce all that stuff the DAY OF RELEASE.

Apple doesn't release info in advance of launch, with few exceptions...

what do you think the price for this would be? is it really an upgrade?

i read some where that an anaylyst said the notebooks will go down from 1099 to 999 and 1299 to 1199. also is this just a facelift for the macbooks or are there going to be serious changes with the specs as well? i dont want to wait for the new one if its the same notebook just a different case. i need to figure if i should wait or just get the free ipod with the educational discount now. but i would wait if the prices are gonan drop also as predicted

price

let's say there are the new design is there the possibility of a price cut to 999 n does this mean no educational discount

doesn't make sense

What are you talking about. The high end goes up 500 in price just like the current pro's. he has a good point and a good estimate on specs

i need to figure if i should wait or just get the free ipod with the educational discount now.

I don't see how they would take the ed discount away even if they did lower prices.

also, you can both wait and still get the BTS promotion, it doesnt end for over a month still! You don't have to make that decision until Sept 15.

I could definitely see it coming

Seeing as every apple product is switching to aluminum it's not surprising that the macbook would to
