Dude, half the case is covered by foam wrap... that's why it doesn't look centred.

You know, I've read through all 12 pages here and it AMAZES me how many people don't realize that the foam is covering the other half. I saw that immediately, it really isn't that hard to understand.

I, personally, think it is good that they are updating the line with aluminum to match their other products. I am impatiently waiting for a new MB to be introduced with a screen larger than the current one without having to go to the MBP.

Really? Because I don't see that at all. And anyway, if you're going to take a picture of something, doesn't it make more sense to take the picture of the whole thing, and not cover half of it with foam?

I'm not disputing what you say; your eyes are probably better than mine. I just think it's pointless to speculate on the basis of these photos.

Now that I look at it again, I can see that the foam is whats covering the MacBook shell. Looks really good if its the real deal!

I've been playing around with the MacBooks at work and found that the keyboard is very uncomfortable to use, hopefully they update that aspect of the notebook too.

I'd imagine that since we're getting shots like these, the release for the new notebooks can't be too far away? I really want to get my hands on a fresh aluminum MacBook before September! :)

Tell me it's NOT so

I am PRAYING and HOPING that those really are fake.

Who's wants another AIR.
I'm not sure how many of you guys feel like this.
But I LOVE the plastic design..the current Macbook, is the best looking laptop on the market maining because of it's white sleek plastic look. I don't think the Pro silver has anything thing on it. And dont even mention the cheese grater.

I am waiting until Sep 16th, but I hope it doesnt turn OUT to be that Air looking thing

Unlikely it'll change. Keep using the keyboard. Once you get used to it, you'll love it.

I completely agree.

no one here is talking about the mac pro.
The post I replied to said:
Is this really what we've become? Heaven forbid the laptop crowd should ever have to wait for an update as long as Mac Pro users do...

anyone think all the white accessories... mighty mouse, power adapters, dvi converters etc are gonna change to a silvery grey colour?

it made sense for them to be white when everything else was, but now it kinda doesn't.
I'm in agreement here. I think we'll see those accessories turn aluminum in 2009, with (off-)white staying for the cables etc.

But the new aluminum keyboard has white (plastic) keys. And the current laptops have white/black plastic keyboards. It may be that Apple will not move to aluminum fully for a while (if at all), and will keep plastic on the accessories for a few more years. Alternatively, Apple could use a two-toned design with the bulk of the accessory in aluminum, with white bits (like the keyboards).

I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen a cease and desist yet.
We didn't see them with the leaked aluminum keyboards last year and the earlier MacBook Pro pictures. Maybe Apple is deliberately not C&Ding the pictures because Apple knows that if they do, then we would automatically know they are real. They might just C&D for final designs (like the leaked iPod nanos last year). (The MacBook Pro pictures weren't final, but these MacBook pictures may be, as they are closer to the release date.)

the first picture is a 403 error. and the second would have had to have been taken by a wide angle lens. If it is distortion why isn't the text effected?
The text may be too small in comparison with the rest of the picture to have any visible distortion.

I'd really like it if I could have a laptop that had the looks of a MacBook Air with the power of a MacBook, that would be the best of both worlds for me. :)

If we get aluminium macbooks, there probably won't be any black macbooks anymore. Apple might just transfer the colour option to the mbp. So in the end everything is silver coloured and only the pro version will have a black option.
Would love to see how Apple makes black aluminium, though I might still get a silver coloured mbp.

aah... anodised aluminium? I'd love to have some colour with apple laptops... although an ipod nano-lookalike would look kinda terrible... A really blue macbook. oh no... I'd still want silver.

They could, however, tint the colours along white - silver - dark silver - black anodised aluminium... that would look so much better. I'd pick the white or the dark silver lol

you think it'll be exactly the same screen, since both of them are 13"?

That would make sense. The only thing they would need to change with them is the words "MacBook" from "MacBook Air."

The only thing they would need to consider is the bezel..

But then, how would others be able to distinguish the two? I don't think they'd want them to look exactly alike..

  • The name
  • The thickness
  • Keyboard color
  • Ports
  • I doubt they wouldn't have a number of slight differences between the two

The main thing that's keeping me waiting for an updated MacBook is the screen. The LED screens on the MacBook Air is simply amazing, it's a world of a difference compared to the current MacBooks. Other than that I'm fine with a current white plastic model. :)

I'm worried about getting a bad experience with a Rev. A product.. :(

Otherwise, I'd love for this to be the new MacBook.

I second that point, i'm desperate to buy one of the new MacBooks when they are out, but as this is my first ever Apple Mac (yay!) I don't kow how Rev A products usually are.

Anyone care to inform me?

It will be my 1st Apple as well and I will not hesitate to buy it (if I like the design). Apple is just reputated to have very good hardware so having a "revision A" wouldn't worry me. You can still wait a year before buying it just to be sure that there are no major issues and then buy it.

But .. it is impossible to have the freshly updated notebook without having a "revision A". The choice is yours. ;)

Apple has stated publicly that they aren't going to be using plastics in laptop cases anymore. So even if this image is fake, odds are that it is a pretty accurate portrayal of the new case.

Yeah seriously, that's the only reason I'm interested. On the other hand, I don't really see such a big difference in performance between the MBs and MBPs. It seems to me that it is the screen size the major marketing tool for the MBP, besides the 'professional' aluminum case.

I wouldn't worry to much about purchasing a Rev.A product. As long as you buy AppleCare along with your new MacBook, you're good to go. :)

This is great for macbooks, but what about macbook pros? Are we going to see an update in the case morphology for that too?

PS- I cant agree more with Sn00pie. I have a rev A macbook pro and even though it had issues with the screen splotching, the power adapter catching on fire, and charging issues apple care has been so helpful in making me satisfied. I really can't speak highly enough. It was the same thing for my old powerbook. Squeaky wheel gets the grease baby!
