Sadly, hackers and thieves don't even need keys anymore - LibreDrive took care of that. It amazes me the lengths people go to in order to bypass the content owner's rights. If this hack isn't from an Apple stream, I'd put my money on LibreDrive being this thief's method.

That MakeMkv update is not officially out yet. It's much more likely it's really a Web-DL right now.

What? Rephrase your question.

The article claims that since someone typed "Web-DL" as a source for a movie, that it obviously means iTunes latest DRM was cracked.

It's absolutely possible that the iTunes DRM was cracked. But then again, maybe it wasn't cracked, and there is another explanation for someone putting "Web-DL" as a source (as the submitter can literally type anything they want). Maybe it is from some other service. Or maybe it's from a different source completely, such as Bluray.

I haven't kept up with the latest movie ripping technologies and DRMs, so I don't know if it's harder/easier to rip a new disc with its DRM vs. cracking streaming DRM vs. actually capturing something in 4K via other means.

Won't shock me one bit if this turns out to be true and it is cracked. Plenty of "documentation" out there to suggest it's been a priority for a while. I'd rather buy movies and music then rip it off though, but some don't feel that way. However, I do understand the chase to have a challenge and complete it. When it comes to legal vs illegal.. I'll stick with my 15.00-20.00 discs.
you'd be a millionaire by the time you added up all your purchases over 25 years. Dont add up all that you paid for it might make you sick.

I’m sure all of us paying users will end up paying for this too with more excessive DRM, even though these people wouldn’t pay anyway.

Happened to such a great movie too /s

meanwhile, i can only play content in hd on my new macbook
Meanwhile human eyes STILL cannot determine the difference between 4K and 1080P on a 12" sceen when you sitting 2 feet away. Go ahead try and prove optics and physics wrong!

Downloaded it last night, movie is meh.
Did you ever think maybe the reason why it is "meh" is because the studios know CRIMINALS like you will steal it no matter what they put out?!

So? Just because you don't feel like paying for it, it is STILL illegal! The same way it would be illegal for me to come to your house and take everything YOU worked to earn money to pay for!

Sounds like an excuse to me...

It's easier to rip a bluray than it is rip an unreleased movie on iTunes.

It is not about "not having to pay". People who have skills to crack such stream probably have high paying job somewhere, they probably are putting their skills to use somewhere where the pay is very good.

There is thrill in the act itself, which is better than any kind of money.

Sorry - Just because you want a cheap "thrill" does not make it LEGAL to STEAL!!!

Read me a line where I wrote that it is "legal".

Software and media piracy is not stealing, but a form of copyright infringement.

If I took your phone, and made an exact copy of it, without ever taking your phone away from you, would you call that a stealing?

I think most people wouldn't watch a movie if they had to pay for it so what piracy does is to allow them to watch it (just like on TV). Studios often argue how much money they are losing but they don't consider the fact that most people wouldn't watch the junk in the first place.

I have no desire to watch (pay for) Aquaman or any superhero for that matter but if its on TV few years later and I have time then I might.

I have netflix and thats all. Most movies these days are junk and its hard to find a good movie. Why should one pay 20 pounds for a movie thats bad when you can have a subscription for a whole month and enjoy more movies/tv shows?

So yeah, the whole piracy things is a complex matter and I doubt its fixable. If (hypothetically speaking) was there no piracy there would be massive drop in watched movies. Cinemas would not pick up more money suddenly and studios would be trying to find another excuses why things are not working.

Tradition cinema is kinda dead, traditional TV is dead as who wants to sit through zillion commercials (unless you have sky and can skip them). Streaming services like Netflix are the future. Uninterrupted service with original content + more. Simple as that.

That is a ridiculous justification for mediocre movies ... but I get your point.
It's just that marketing and CGI is still bloody expensive.
This is why storytelling is (nearly) dead.

Do you believe that all the press tours and interviews are free?
Do you believe actors and actresses need to make millions to virtue signal on their Instagram?

Don't complain about piracy alone. Movies would not be better.

PS: I had a funny argument with Zoe Saldana - or whoever runs her instagram - the PC ******** is hilarious.

It's not stealing, it's copying. There's a difference.

If pirates spent as much time hacking **** they don't want to pay for as they do working they could save themselves some time and afford the damn movie. #facepalm

It has nothing to do with affording it. Where can you currently buy a 4k UHD HDR/DV uncompressed movie without any DRM added on? Such that I can watch it on any of my devices (smartphone, tablet, tv) without an internet connection, authentication, or any such nonsense?

Nowhere. Piracy is literally the only place to get pure movies.

On a 5K iMac, there's no way to legally play back a 4K movie. Apple forces you to play it on an Apple TV. While I don't bother with piracy, it makes me angry that I can not play the 4K content from iTunes, that I paid for, on my iMac. The iMac is literally the best screen I own. So I can understand why people do it.

It's not about the money for them. For some it's a challenge - and one they enjoy, for others it's a crusade - fighting against greedy corporations, and for some, it's for the street cred - which could lead to employment opportunities.

Not taking a side, but you can't just "these guys steal cause they can't afford it and need to get jobs" it's not accurate.

It’s 100% about money...and ideology. Major pirates and torrent hosting sites make millions, more than the independent film companies whose work they host without permission. Most of these guys are organized and highly skilled, well paid members of ‘crews’, some with extreme political views, and others who reinvest the money they earn into more hacking, action groups and extremism.
