Android as a whole has gotten better. The biggest problem is the lack of software updates. The standard $1,000 Android phone in the US still does not have the latest Android Pie due to restrictions from mobile carriers. You should never let a mobile carrier tell you when to upgrade your software. Ever.

True for Samsung, but Pixel gets updates like iOS and OnePlus gets updated quickly too. It's too bad Samsung phones are so difficult for carriers to deal with.

We were a 3 iPhone family, now we're a 2 Pixel and 1 iPhone family. Pure Android has passed iOS in usability, features, overall cohesiveness of features and in our family, it's been a more reliable OS. One can make a case that the Pixel hardware hasn't caught up, which is fine, but the software more than makes up for it.

This is what I see (not the police part, just the shield).

Back looks neat.
a good design without any doubt.
I really hate the lumpy camera in recent iPhones, but let’s really hope the recent picture from next iPhone is fake because its so bad that it’s humiliating.

The S10 lineup looks like it has a camera protrusion as well, so not sure how the iPhone looks any worse. Personally, I think the plastic case makes it look cheap, but that’s just my personal taste.

They missed the headline feature: Terrible battery life coupled with an ad campaign that attacks Apple instead of touting their new devices.

I'm also smug about the fact that "last year's" Apple A12 is faster than upcoming Crapdragons. And I can't wait until Chevrolet sues them for using the name S10.

*couldn't* ;)
Or tell us how much less you could care.:p:D

On topic: That S10E seems intriguing. I am not a fan of the curved edge design. The hole punch should have been avoided by symmetrical bezels. Notches, hole punches, swoops... the amount of useful screen gained is minimal at best. Can't wait for this trend to disappear.

I will edit. Yea I was never a fan of their recent designs, especially the corners and asymmetrical bezels. For now I am content with the notch until it's removed.

Everything in this comment is funny. Samsung has hundreds of ads that have nothing to do with Apple. Sites like MR only report on the ones that do.

How can you be smug about something that has nothing to do with you? I hope your self esteem isn't tied to commodity electronics. Chevy suing for S10? Tee hee. Gonna go out on a limb without even checking, but I think it's pretty safe to say GM has no claim on S10 for electronics.

lately i started hating Apple, sure but still will stick to it. Slower upgrades for me with apple but not changing to Android *****.

Every smartphone maker is going to have a new phone this year and shocker...it will have an improved camera. I don’t see how that’s news. To me if there’s any news from these photos it’s that the GS10 appears to look just like the GS9 except for the camera arrangement. Is everyone going to complain about Samsung’s lack of innovation because this phone aesthetically looks like it’s predecessors?

Yes competition in Android land is a good thing though Samsung might not agree. ;)

I think the innovation here is expected to be on the front (with the hole punched screen as an alternative to a notched screen) and in screen fingerprint sensor. To that end, pictures of the back aren't really expected to be showing anything new

Are you sure? Based simply on the pics in the article, the camera seems pretty flush. Look at the camera module case surround. It's convex, sinking back to the camera. Nothing there suggests a protrusion. There could be a protrusion (probably is), but nothing in the pics suggest there is. Cursory googling just brings up multiple renders with varying levels of protrusion, from none to pretty big. We'll see soon I guess.

I have not used Android in a few years, has it gotten better? I wonder how these phones would do running iOS (if it were possible of course)

Somewhat but it’s still Android. I switched back to iOS last year and don’t plan on going back. The Samsung phones have gotten smoother but the standby battery life is awful.

It's been really good for a handful of years now.

Bro, the iPhone practically looked the same from release until the X.

Yup, the X was a big design change. Definitely welcomed by me as I was very tired of the bezels and home button. I am not sure what that has to do with Samsung and their design though.

Samsung is able to use a single camera cutout for the S10 because it is has less technology than Apple's latest iPhones, which use a notch design to house the TrueDepth camera system that enables Face ID.

But the article also mentions a pill shaped cutout for a dual FFC model. If they are already making cutouts larger than a single camera hole, then presumably this pill shape can be stretched to fit as many component as necessary. Of course, at some point the pill would be so stretched that you may as well use a notch - but to say Apple couldn't make use of something like this seems incorrect as there doesn't seem to be anything which restricts this to a single hole.

The in display fingerprint verification sounds cool, I think the more important aspect of the s10's will be their significantly larger batteries (if rumors prove out) - they can join Apple with better battery life for their customers this year.

That said, Samsung has issues with getting out OS updates, security updates (had a S9+ through work last year and it was quarterly security updates and unfortunately Sammy is harvesting their users data to make money (the EULA you have to agree to for their very excellent, otherwise, Samsung Pay is truly horrific - its obvious they are going to sell all your charges out, probably to all bidders and you have to agree to it to use it).

....Meanwhile my ipad mini 2 is doing me really nicely as a casual web daily driver but recently the battery has started to die super quick... Like even in a day of non use. Do i need a new battery is the question....

Since its a Mini 2 and based on the behavior you've described then yes the battery is almost certainly in need of replacement. You can take it into an Apple Store and they'll run a utility on it for fee, giving you the existing capacity compared to the original capacity, to tell you for sure. (Did it on my original Air 2 recently and still had 97% so didn't replace the battery)
