Is it in the most up-to-date release of iOS 7? No, therefore it is absent from iOS 7 as it stands.

Did you even look before you commented? It is in the latest release. Here is a screen shot:

That icon is pretty atrocious IMO. A simple Mic icon on a white or gray background will be straightforward and easy to understand.

Perhaps they want to differentiate it from Siri..

If I saw that in cydia, I would have laughed and moved on.

This is something I would have expected from Apple:

Maybe they should fire all of their "designers" and spend there cash stockpile on Dribbble designers.

My eyes hurt looking at that home screen. The Voice Memo icon doesn't even surprise me. It starts to get funny, Apple is maybe just pulling a joke on us. I can not believe that the same person authorised the home screen who is also responsible for the gorgeous Mac design, including the new Mac Pro.

You're the one who needs to read before commenting. The original poster was talking about a stock app, not *Stocks*. He was trying to point that a stock app (the ones that comes bundled with the iOS, such as Mail, Safari, and etc) wasn't in the iOS shows that the iOS 7 beta 1 isn't any near closer to being released any time soon. It means the iOS 7 is really early in the development.

If that screen shot is indicative of what iOS 7 will look like, I prefer iOS6.

That being said, I have seen some screen shots of other menus, etc. that look good, but that home screen... yuck.

and did you even read his comment before you replied?

He said STOCK app not STOCKS app

I stand corrected. Bet you never thought a person on a forum would admit that.

But this isn't a Sports Car that is "Stock". Maybe using a term like "Native" or "Standard" would make more sense.... considering there is a "Stock" app.

this constant bashing of forstall is getting pathetic and seeing the quality of the replacements (yes i know its a beter mr gruber and his following but still).

it makes apple look juvenile and insecure. its not like he held them at gun point and forced them to release something they hated

These icons. Sheesh. They've got to be placeholders. More care has to go into them. These are just a running joke at this point and can't be taken seriously.

Is this a joke? Those are hideous icons - no balance to them at all.

Yeah... because a squiggly line is more indicative of "voice recording" than a microphone.

Does instant recognition of what it signifies make an icon better? I don't believe it does. Most good icons I've seen are way less descriptive than that. In any case, it's clearly an audio wave which is just fine as a signifier compared to a radio microphone (and really, a better descriptor since audio waves are actually involved, while a microphone is not). Most people are perfectly capable of recognizing audio waves at this point, I'd think.

But I swear, Apple changes it's iOS icons and suddenly everyone becomes an icon critic. Look at the icons in your iPhone or you Mac and tell me how many of them are actual visual illustrations of what the app does. I'd be willing to bet it's not nearly as many as you'd think, and that you have no problem clicking on the correct icon to get to a certain app even if it's not illustrative. There's absolutely no need for the icon to be directly connected to what it does. Think about the universally accepted icons for "Pause" and "Play." What do two vertical lines and an isosceles triangle pointing right have to do with pause and play? And yet we know what they mean because they're culturally accepted as such, and because we've used them many times. The criticisms of the icons based on visual appeal are one thing, but all this talk of the icons not "meaning" anything is getting ridiculous, the product of people suddenly overthinking icons since now we're all being critical.

I assume this also means the design of the actual app has been changed too, which, thank god. It's got to be one of the ugliest apps out there.

I already admitted I misunderstood your misuse of the word "stock". This is beta code, and not production, thus by default is not "Stock" but pre-production.
