Don’t forget the “SE”...as well as the soon to release “SE”...which isn’t the same as the SE...it’s different.
There could be iPhone 9 in the future.

I guess there are already exceptions to the naming scheme. Starting to look like a mess though.
I love the notch, i’m pretty happy to see it still there in iPhone 12 design! Smaller is better for sure, maybe more space for control center/system icons.
BTW I don’t like idea of widget in home screen, it would be more iOS/clean to have widgets only in one page as it is now.
I can't wait for that damn notch to be gone.
Frankly, I prefer the pop-up camera design in other devices; I really hate the intrusion into the screen and I hate the idea of an unsecure camera always "seeing" everything.
All my computers have tape over the cam. And even when working from home, I join meetings with audio only.
I mean, it took Apple 4 years to fix their damn keyboards, it took forever to move to larger-screen phones, to get rid of the RIDICULOUS bezels on the iPhone, iMacs (still there), and MacBooks (can't believe DELL beat them to this).
Hell, they replaced the hideous one-button hockey puck mouse with YET ANOTHER one-button mouse way back then.
Don't get me started on the Mac Pro, Pencil v1, iPad mouse support, the TouchBar, and the still idiotic "magic" mouse.
Apple HATES to change (their own ideas). It comes at a snail's pace, bundled with the "getting it right" excuse.
So temper expectations folks, and enjoy the products now for what they do right, because you'll have to WAIT A BIT for Apple to address what they do wrong.
It is a humanity failure and it can be fixed by putting the right people in charge of Apple.

For security, a pop-up camera beats all, but from a design perspective, it's a terrible solution. Notch is better. And it's gotten to be a fashion and design statement.I can't wait for that damn notch to be gone.

Still, I don't see the notch going away completely in the next 5 years, if ever...
It may be likely, but not very probable. It is likely that people are not going to buy another iPhone that can't even make the screen design look symmetrical and global economic recession will further decline the sales of smartphones at an astonishing rate.

What makes you say that? There hasnt been an 11s model either. But the numbers stay rather consistent apart from '9'.Disagreed. There should be a 7s, 8s model.

Aren't you concerned, though, about the hacking of the audio?

I don't think we need to go that far.It is a humanity failure and it can be fixed by putting the right people in charge of Apple.
My family is on facetime, several times a day, and I really don't like the pop-up cameras.I disagree. I don't need to use the front-facing camera on a phone except rarely. To have it pop up only when needed means my device is cleaner.
Then again, I'm not a selfie addict. And I'm not interested in fashion over function to that extent. But hey, this is all subjective. And Apple loves to prioritize fashion over function, so that aligns with perhaps a lot of their customer base.
And yes, hacking audio is a concern (as is ANY hacking), but much, much less so than video, from my perspective at least.
...
Why in the world do you love the notch? The notch sucks.
the same can be said for Touch ID which to me worked much faster and better. There are many situations where faceid isn't wonderful. only great when using the phone directly in front of your face.
We had no choice but to jump into faceid. We didn't ask for it. The bigger screen makes it better yes but I still prefer Touch ID after owning the x and the XS max for almost three combined years now.
Same thing with the notch. People put up with it because its all you can buy with a newer iPhone unless you want to buy old hardware with horrible top and bottom bezels. So people put up with it because they have no choice. Ive had numerous friends ask about the notch when the phones where new its not like its invisible. It does cut into the UI a lot with things especially video and games.
To me there's a big difference between people not complaining because they have no other choice in iPhones so most won't complain about it because it won't change anything. To people that actually complain but still nothing comes out of it and we still end up buying the newest iPhone because we have no choice.
Im sure most everybody would "prefer" a full screen phone with touch id under the glass and Face ID under the glass to what we have now.
This is a transition point in technology. We will get there soon.

The iPhone 8 is not a huge change from 7 and it's more like an iPhone 7s.
BHAHAHA as an Apple fan boy, I follow what Tim and Co says on stage. "The iPhone 8 is a huge leap forward, improving on everything that made iPhone 7 so popular". iPhone 8 is such a leap that it deserves a new number 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I continue to maintain that recognition of innovation is a personal definition based on a personal line in the sand or some personal sliding scale. It is virtually the same without much improvement over 7 and the inductive charging is shockingly slower than using a lightning port.
I can't wait for that damn notch to be gone.

Pop-up camera is a terrible design choice, and I won't buy a phone with a pop-up camera.I won't buy a phone with a notch, hole etc... in the screen. It is one of the worst designs choices I have seen on a smartphone and a small bezel or pop up camera would be better.
My family is on facetime, several times a day, and I really don't like the pop-up cameras.
But sure as to design, function etc. Horses for courses as it is said.
I don't like like the idea of an external moving, mechanical items within my phone. Just my preference. But yeah, that is so "unApple" like. Why?
You pop it out when using it and pop it in when done. It should blend into the phone such as being almost imperceptible.
I personally wouldn't care if it wasn't automatic, I'd actually prefer it manual.
But alas, this is moot. Apple would NEVER do it.
We'll have to wait for cameras that disappear into the bezel, like this:

Yes I don't really care or notice unless an app is coded poorly. Like the one game I tried is in landscape and will orient either way. But if you have the notch on the left, a menu button is hidden. Either put the button away from the edge or don't let the screen flip when you have the notch on the left. For once I was truly holding it wrongIt’s interesting to read ‘the notch’ comments on sites like this, but outside the tech world, for anyone that’s owned the latest iPhones with a notch, I’ve never heard it mentioned by anyone. Simply because consumers probably don’t care and they see the greater picture of how convenient face ID is, which overrides the aesthetic of a ‘cut out’ at the top of the display. If Apple decides to minimize it, so be it, but it’s never been an issue affecting the iPhone anyway whatsoever.
Is it because of the thinness of the MB screen? Is that why they can't put a higher res camera in? I can't think of any other possible reason apart from pure design laziness?
Pop-up camera is a terrible design choice, and I won't buy a phone with a pop-up camera.
The issue is space for the Face ID electronics. Apple won’t do a pop up camera and it does not seem esthetically pretty to have thin bezels vs a notch, which IMO would look better. Not perfect because of moving parts just much better than a notch or hole in your screen. Just have a thin bezel which is a better design than a notch.
