If they can remove the notch on the iPad, then they can remove it on the iPhone. Apple will milk the smaller notch design for 3 years then by 2024 will go notchless.
That’s not entirely accurate. FaceID is hidden on the iPad Pros because the bezels are much thicker on the iPad than on the iPhone. Trust me, I have the iPad Pro and iPhone 11 Pro and had the iPhone XR, and even the XR’s bezels are much smaller than the iPad Pro. The bezels on iPad Pro are thicker than the notch on the iPhone which is why you don’t see it. Nobody here would seriously rather have an iPhone with thicker bezels to get rid of the notch I hope.

I can't wait for that damn notch to be gone.

Frankly, I prefer the pop-up camera design in other devices; I really hate the intrusion into the screen and I hate the idea of an unsecure camera always "seeing" everything.

All my computers have tape over the cam. And even when working from home, I join meetings with audio only.

Still, I don't see the notch going away completely in the next 5 years, if ever.

I mean, it took Apple 4 years to fix their damn keyboards, it took forever to move to larger-screen phones, to get rid of the RIDICULOUS bezels on the iPhone, iMacs (still there), and MacBooks (can't believe DELL beat them to this).

Hell, they replaced the hideous one-button hockey puck mouse with YET ANOTHER one-button mouse way back then.

Don't get me started on the Mac Pro, Pencil v1, iPad mouse support, the TouchBar, and the still idiotic "magic" mouse.

Apple HATES to change (their own ideas). It comes at a snail's pace, bundled with the "getting it right" excuse.

So temper expectations folks, and enjoy the products now for what they do right, because you'll have to WAIT A BIT for Apple to address what they do wrong.

Fair points. Fortunately, many of the things Apple does right, they do the best.

Indeed. iMessage, A-Series chips, Tablets, macOS (skip Catalina tho ;) ), AirPods (Pro), trackpads, the Pencil, the ECOSYSTEM: Unmatched.

All Apple products are closer to equilibrium than ever before (not too far ahead, not lazily lagging behind to maximize profits, and priced reasonably well)...

My entire 2011/2012 household Apple infrastructure will most likely be replaced next year (I'm waiting Catalina out), with devices I'm sure could last another 10.

Then again, I might resume the annual/biannual upgrade scheme I had until it all came to a screeching halt in 2011 (due to soldered & glued Macs, small phones, iOS7, Yosemite, coupled with the jump in quality of Android and PC devices).

Apple is (almost) great again!

I just want 1080p video on my $1800 MacBook.
Absolutely ridiculous they can put 4K 60FPS on the front facing camera of a $700 smartphone (iPhone 11), and can’t put 1080p in a top of the line $1800 MacBook.
Is it because of the thinness of the MB screen? Is that why they can't put a higher res camera in? I can't think of any other possible reason apart from pure design laziness?

This is one of the most ridiculous articles I've seen here in a long time, and gives this site a bad rap. It's a rumour site, not a "wow this kinda looks like a phone, which the iPhone is a phone - better repost it" site.

Look at the poor lines. Look at the bad speaker placement. Look at the width which immediately indicates this isn't even the OLED screen line.

Do your basic job as a reporter. Anyone can hit "share".

The iPhone 12 Pro is shaping up to be a very nice upgrade with a significant performance improvement, more RAM, smaller notch, improved display, 5G, iPhone 4-like design and LiDAR.

it’s just about choice, like having the S-Pen seems like a nice feature, would a lot of people use it daily? Probably not but there are those of us that would.
Ach... I know... And I'm with you.
My comment was mostly against those whiney Android people, that always say that they could customize everything... but never do.

I would be surprised if more than 1% of customers give a damn.
You’re actually exactly right... iPhone X🅂 and X🅁 had a customer satisfaction of 99%.

The notch ain’t worth giving a damn. Those of us who use these phones understand this.

Also, it really helps me easier find the top of the screen so I adjust my grip when picking up. Anyone else?

The 'widgets' remind me a bit of Windows Phone's live tiles, which was actually quite a nice balance between organised and dynamic. Looking forward to this feature if legit!
This. windows phone’s Metro UI is really forward thinking IMO. It just like the world doesn’t ready for it yet when it came out.

It does not matter if the citizen of earth is ready, that cannot be the excuse to obstruct good product from being widely adopted around the world.

I also love the notch and glad to see it smaller.

I hated the concept of it, because I thought we were "losing" part of the screen. Once I got the X and actually used it, I found you had a full screen, but this was an additional area - like how some phones have a screen on the edge. I like having a small area for connection info and battery.

I'd like to see the notch a little smaller so that the screen on the sides would have more room to show even more things. I use a VPN for work a lot and I'd love it if I could see if it is connected or not up there all the time versus having to swipe down to look. So yeah - I love the notch and just want it smaller. I don't think it is an eyesore. I think the different look kind of separates that it isn't an active part of the screen.
saying you love the notch but glad to see it smaller is contradicting you know...?

I also had the x first day as well as the XS max and yes you enjoy the screen increase from the HORRIBLE previous top and bottom bezel but if you read the post I posted with pictures you still aren't getting all the screen you can if there was no notch at all. All the other things you say will benefit from a full screen phone without a notch so you are basically saying you'd like a full screen(no notch) phone without really saying it. Its ok if the notch doesn't bother you it doesn't bother me much either but I see the huge upgrade it will be when there is nothing there...Saying you love the notch deep down you really don't :p

Those people are utterly dishonest about not bothering by the terrible notch screen design. It's a humanity failure and Apple just exacerbated with such unprofessional design on iPhone X to iPhone 11

I won't be surprised if the customer's boycott Apple for producing such a horrible screen design to the smartphone for 3 years regardless what sort of excuse it made.
I can assure you it won't happen. Are you crazy? Apple can get away with everything. People didn't even boycott things that actually matters, like their faulty keyboards or low quality batteries.

It is likely that people are not going to buy another iPhone that can't even make the screen design look symmetrical and global economic recession will further decline the sales of smartphones at an astonishing rate.

I guess there are already exceptions to the naming scheme. Starting to look like a mess though.

Don’t forget the “SE”...as well as the soon to release “SE”...which isn’t the same as the SE...it’s different.
