I wish Apple would bring a lot more customisation to the iPhone. The fact that with Samsung phones you can customise just about anything, is really appealing. Also Apple should make a smaller Apple Pencil for the larger iPhone (like the S-Pen with the Note series).

That would be a great upgrade and compete with Samsungs Note series.

That’s disgusting.

It’s interesting to read ‘the notch’ comments on sites like this, but outside the tech world, for anyone that’s owned the latest iPhones with a notch, I’ve never heard it mentioned by anyone. Simply because consumers probably don’t care and they see the greater picture of how convenient face ID is, which overrides the aesthetic of a ‘cut out’ at the top of the display. If Apple decides to minimize it, so be it, but it’s never been an issue affecting the iPhone anyway whatsoever.
Oh really? The notch is the number one reason why I don't buy an iPhone. It just bothers me too much, can't stand it visually. Both Xiaomi and Oppo have come out with phones with zero notches or holes and yet have faceID.

I agree ive gone case less since iPhone 4 2010.
But this should only bother people that don't already have their phones in cases which makes the camera flush with it. It does both me a little because of the way it wobbles on a table but that's about it. I don't notice or see it otherwise.

I just want 1080p video on my $1800 MacBook.
Absolutely ridiculous they can put 4K 60FPS on the front facing camera of a $700 smartphone (iPhone 11), and can’t put 1080p in a top of the line $1800 MacBook.

How thick is the iPhone and how thick is the lid of the MacBook? See?

I was highly considering getting the new Air, but WTF is that web cam? Especially now where most of us are working remotely, that is beyond unacceptable.

Yes, it’s an issue, but it’s still okay
I mean in general I share my screen to show documents
As someone said above, the screen of the MacBook is really thin, it’s really hard to put a good camera in this

you love the notch but happy to see it smaller? so eventually when its the smallest and gone you will praise apple for reducing it to nothing.
The notch is a limitation in technology nothing more. Its not a design idea. If the tech was there to have a behind the screen camera with all the tech we have now we would never of seen the notch.
While I don't mind it that much it is really an eyesore and cuts into a lot of the information we are missing. Ill be happy to see it go and real true full screen phones with no popup cameras start showing up.
Just look how much space the notch plus the under notch bar in safari is. Thats a good 1/4" to almost 1/2" of space we are losing because of the way the notch cuts into the screen/top bar.

not so sure you’re right here. It’s fairly iconic. Like the home button was.

Pretty much. Oversimplified, more resolution requires a larger sensor for all else to be equal, which requires a bigger gap between it and the lens for all else to be equal (i.e. it's thicker). Unless you want a camera bump on your MacBook screen (or a 1080p camera with tiny pixels and extremely poor low light results) this is as good as it gets.
Huawei approach to have a key in the keyboard dedicated is really nice in my opinion, the angle is bad but it allows to have a better camera + better screen ratio, also the majority doesn’t use their camera that often so it’s nice to be safe and have it hidden

that's laughable. The home button was needed. The notch was never needed and will be gone when the tech is there.
Think about it. This will get people to upgrade to notchless phone. Apple might of done it on purpose because of leveling out of phone sales. It will push people into the new phone even if there isn't much new tech inside.
All apple needs to keep is the logo on that back really the only brand they ever wanted.

If they can remove the notch on the iPad, then they can remove it on the iPhone. Apple will milk the smaller notch design for 3 years then by 2024 will go notchless.

I don’t mind the notch, I’ve had it since day one. I prefer the notch over a different sized bezels(chin or forehead) there isn’t a phone out there that has equal sized bezels all the way around. It’s never gotten in the way of my content, and I don’t notice it unless I look for it.
What does excite me, is that a smaller notch means redesigned faceid sensors and hopefully that means faster and more orientations.

I'm not sure how I would feel about that. Live Tiles was visual cacophony, with too much happening everywhere. It was visual overload. If Apple found a way to streamline it and reduce the visual clutter, then it might be useful.

Also, is it my imagination or is the bezel in those drawings a lot wider than current iPhones?
Personally always thought the opposite, it allowed you to mostly keep your structured grid of icons, but resizing them at your pleasure, depending on how much you used them or wanted to see at a glance without opening the app. Of course if you prefer I'm sure you can just keep it as it is now, too!

Yes, I have. It’s very very small.

View attachment 904270

The large circle that it occupies on the back of an iPad Pro is just for aesthetics, to match the other two lenses. The LiDAR diodes themselves are tiny.
They could replace it but the notch will still be there, it won't get any smaller. Who actually knows if they didn't already do it on the 12 Pro

the iPhone is already perfect now, otherwise apple wouldnt release it. In fact, I would say its not thin enough. iPhone has always been about thinness and how cool it looks.
If it were "perfect" it would sit flat. Perfect by definition is "without flaws". That is a flaw. Apple makes great things, but I'm not going to blindly accepting faults/flaws as perfection just so I can be on the Apple team. I am willing to bet there is nobody driving home the standards to the level as the early days. Nobody is holding up the phones because the white around the screen does not match the button anymore.

Also my wobbly iPhone on my desk when I tap it is just not cool at all.

I wish Apple would add a UI switch - "Classic ' ON/OFF"

If its ON (by default) then screen has classic IOS look, if OFF...then you can put TILES/APPS wherever you like,.

Mainly to shut the ANDROID whiners up but it also has use cases :p

I also love the notch and glad to see it smaller.

I hated the concept of it, because I thought we were "losing" part of the screen. Once I got the X and actually used it, I found you had a full screen, but this was an additional area - like how some phones have a screen on the edge. I like having a small area for connection info and battery.

I'd like to see the notch a little smaller so that the screen on the sides would have more room to show even more things. I use a VPN for work a lot and I'd love it if I could see if it is connected or not up there all the time versus having to swipe down to look. So yeah - I love the notch and just want it smaller. I don't think it is an eyesore. I think the different look kind of separates that it isn't an active part of the screen.

I like the smaller notch, although the notch has never bothered me. Not sure I will upgrade my 11 Pro this year though. It’s still super fast, exceptional cameras, and fantastic OLED display, and will most certainly feel like the iPhone 12 with iOS 14 coming. I’m more excited about the software. Hardware has peaked in many ways, just smaller and smaller incremental changes.

As far as widgets, I am happy to see those are coming. I liked those way back in the day (2008 and 2009) when I had an Android phone. I could see some use for those. I use the current widgets on my iPhone and iPads now.

Yep. I have literally, not once, heard anyone outside of tech forums/Reddit complain or even comment on The Notch since the X.

While I will certainly welcome a smaller notch, the vast majority (in my experience) simply do not care.

I believe, that's because people over time came to acknowledge the trade off and learned to deal with it. That doesn't mean most won't welcome it being gone when the tech is ready. And many outside of tech forums and reddit aren't as invested in tech/smartphones. So they probably won't voice their complaints much even if they had one.
