I can’t believe there are that many people in this thread alone that don’t know how credit limits work.

I realized how naive that statement was as I was typing it out.

I may get this card simply to support Apple. Of all the corporate actors, I trust Apple way, way more than I trust most banks. Yes, I understand their are financial actors associated with the card, but Apple has the resources and wherewithal to protect consumers.

Any idea what the card terms will be, in particular, cash back?

The problem is Apple is partnering with the ultimate sleaze-ball company Goldman Sachs. Read about what they did in Malaysia and all over the world.

When they say credit rating between 600-700 what is the top? Is it 1000?

Now this may seem a dumb question, but in the UK we have 3 credit reference agencies.

Experian scores you up to 999
Credit Karma (was Noddle) 710
Clearscore 700

And none of them in the UK seem to make sense. My scores are 999, 652 & 495.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but the number is stored in Wallet. Of course I don't know how a waiter or convenience store employee will handle you showing them a number that's not on a card. Some may not accept it if they are old school.

I'd like to know if users on the iOS 13 public beta will be able to sign up. It would be kinda crappy if not.

This is a financial offering and there can’t be a any bugs. So I expect no public beta. It is either working and good enough for the public or it is not.

In the US the top is like 800 or maybe 850. Anything above 750 is really high and basically perfect credit.

Are cards still swiped? I thought that ended decades ago. In fact for less expensive purchases chip and pin’s been pretty much superseded by contactless transactions.

Not in the US. Chip and PIN has not really been adopted. Chipped cards were issued only recently, and thus the change over to machines with chip readers took several years to become widespread. Sadly, Chip and PIN was postponed for the "next phase" as the credit card companies decided to primarily go with "Chip and Signature" as they implemented chipped cards. The decided it might be too much for consumers to have to use a PIN at the same time they adjusted to using the new readers, which was unfortunate as the signature is a worthless piece of security. In contrast, a PIN, as is done with debit cards, prevents most fraudulent use of a card.

Contactless transactions are also not widespread as many machines weren't installed with the necessary readers, so they still require physically entering it, and a few still require swiping. Add to that an unfortunate domination by Chip and Signature, and contactless transactions has had a slow adoption by merchants and consumers alike. Fortunately, it's all starting to change, and Apple Pay is leading the way.

True, but the overwhelming majority of posts on MR seem to be negative. Yes I’m an optimist and am generally positive, but I critique when necessary. There’s a lot of negative comments on here that are laughable.

It would be nice if there was a balance, but it really leans heavily to 1 side.

Perhaps. You can tell consistently who is negative, positive, and neutral. Obviously both the positive and negative people are duking it out which is fun to read which is why I keep coming back.

Also most people don’t goto message boards to rave about things. They usually go there to seek answers. It also just so happens many of us are long time Macrumors lurkers/posters, so you will get more noise than other random forums.

I’ve noticed if you want to surround yourself with super positive Apple people, you’re better off frequenting Apple reddit or staying away from Macrumors news and rumors subforums

In the US, it’s 850. We have 3 credit company checkers: Experian, Equifax, and Transunion.

Usually if you are about 700, you’re already pretty good. Above 800, even better. I’ve heard (or read) somewhere that you only need like 650 to get this card which is pretty easy to get.

The credit agencies all calculate your score differently it seems. Thats why here in the US they tell you to check all three because every financial institution uses a different one and if one of them has erroneous information on you it can affect your chances of getting a loan, etc

cards are still swiped every day. I've never been to a gass station that didn't only have a swipe with no other option and there are still plenty of merchants with swipe as well

Limits go to $10k I believe. Someone shared theirs with me and they have between a $5-8k limit.

They had better go higher than $10K. That’s pretty limiting for some. I’ve got credit cards now with limits over $50K. And AMEX has no limits.

Thanks for the info (and the others that answered). Looking at Equifax and Transunion - they are the people behind Clearscore and CreditKarma in the UK.

Despite the odd scores I have mine are better than the UK average according to the their data, so generally I'm fine for finance - although I did get turned down by Apple for 0% a few years back (from Barclays) with no obvious reason why.

I will admit, despite never using Whatsap and Instagram and only having a simple facebook page I never use, I am excited by Facebooks Libra concept.
It feels, like this is Facebook inventing the future, and Apple is re-inventing the past.
With the right backing, and takeup, Libra could in years to come be the defacto method of payments.

This is the type of thing I would have liked to see Apple do, If and I know it's a BIG if, Libra gets established then that will be that.

I'm going to think, whatever you think about this, this is not going to be any issue going forward.

Somehow I don't think these two things are equivalent. And if it's facebook, personally, I'm not buying whatever they are selling.

There were some prognostications that Apple Pay wouldn't take off either. But my bet is on Apple, that they have done their market research and the Apple Card will follow a similar trajectory to Apple Pay. (regardless of sentiments here on MR)

It will definitely succeed, plenty of people are willing to trade good value for fashion, which has been Tim's strategy all along to exploit Steve's hard work

Well okay, if your opinion the Apple Card is about fashion. However citi seems to be “copying” apple’s strategy here. And yes, Tim Cook is doing what he should be doing at Apple and his hard work shows it in the value of the company. So personally I’m all good with the “exploiting Steve’s hard work” meme....as if this has anything to do with the Apple Card Just to get a off-topic dig in.(IMO)

Limits can be deceiving. Unless you regularly charge/pay off large charges and statement balances, you’re just one large charge away from having those limits drastically reduced. Fraud detection may even temporarily suspend new charges on that same or other cards.

btw Amex does have a limit. It’s based mostly on past usage history.

1. Order Apple Card
2. Scratch off name
3. Demagnetise strip
4. Sharpen edge

You now have an untraceable and concealed edged weapon

How long until Apple starts issuing replacement plastic cards or cards stamped with traceable information?

There are far easier ways to make/purchase an untraceable, concealable, non-metallic weapon that don't require a credit check. Just saying.

As far as the card and its intended use, I think it's cool, but I personally have no need for a another revolving credit account. I'll be curious to see how the the card looks after several months of swiping/chip-inserting. I understand titanium is durable AF, but it can still show wear...
