Even if they could get the phone size to be 99% of the total dimensions (which they can't), it still wouldn't qualify as short and fat. More realistically if they integrated the home button into the screen and reorganized the front camera, speaker and sensors to reduce the height, the iPhone 6 would only be slightly wider and taller than the iPhone 5/s.

I think you misunderstood me, I didn't mean the 'thickness', I meant the height and width. Imagine the dimensions of the current screen without the extra parts above and below (currently occupied by the front camera, home button, etc.)

...basically what you said, but tall and thin, looks and feels better.

I wasn't referring to thickness either.

For those stating that you're FORCED to do "X" or "Y"...

Apple doesn't "FORCE" anyone to do anything.
They set their pricing according to their market research and consumers CHOOSE to purchase or not.
There's no literal or figurative gun to anyone's head to buy an Apple device.

The government FORCES us to pay taxes or there are dire consequences - see the difference?

There are market options if you ELECT not to spend what Apple is asking.

Who the f* cares? The iPhone 7 will be just like the iPhone 6, which is just a bigger version of iPhone 5, which was the same as iPhone 4. Apple is in a rut and simply maintaining old products that were created under much more creative corporate leadership.

I am unsure where people keep getting this burn-in thing from. I have never seen that.
I've seen it on display phones. They're left on a single screen for long stretches + stores looooooove to have the displays as saturated as possible so they, and I hate this term, "pop". Earlier AMOLED phones suffered from this phenomena as well. As the tech matured, as with anything, the issue was lessened.

The only difference between the creative corporate leadership of before and today is Steve Jobs.

I keep reading the sentiment that a 1/8" adapter will cost $50-60. I can't see how an adapter would cost that much for an old cable for headphones. It's not like they are converting 30-pin to lightning, or lightning to hdmi it's just an 1/8" audio cable.
Licensing fees to apple, then the "made for iPhone" crap.. plus, its still cheaper then buying new headphones.. before you know it, boom.. $50 bucks.

You wear corded headphones when you work out? That sounds so annoying.
Not really,.. all you do is tuck the cord under your shirt and put the phone in your pocket.. I actually see more corded headphones at the gym then wireless.

I am wondering if they're planning to have a recharging system similar to the Apple Watch's.

You know, the latest iMac is a version of something that can be tracked back to 1984.

Taiwanese website Apple.club.tw has shared leaked images of the purported backlight assembly for the "iPhone 7" display. The component draws some similarities to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus backlight assembly, although the 3D Touch chip and LCD flex cables are relocated on this leaked part.

The website speculates the component could also be for Apple's next-generation 4-inch iPhone, but previous reports have said the much-rumored "iPhone 6c" will not have 3D Touch. The pictured size of the 3D Touch chip and flex cables also suggests the backlight assembly is designed for larger than a 4-inch display.

Apple.club.tw has accurately leaked or republished multiple Apple products in the past, including the iPhone 6 protruding camera lens, iPhone 6 logic board and iPad Air 2 logic board, but its February 2015 rumor about Apple adding Touch ID on the MacBook, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad has yet to happen.

Apple may remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector, possibly helping the smartphones achieve between 6.0mm and 6.5mm thinness and a waterproof design. The devices may also have a faster TSMC-built A10 chip and non-metallic casing with hidden antenna bands.

iPhone 7 Plus could have 3GB of RAM, 256GB storage and a larger 3,100 mAh battery.

So I guess this confirms there will be no OLED and screen bezels will remain roughly the same.

True. That wouldve been a worthy upgrade for me. Although a bigger battery sounds slightly more appealing. But really not worth going from 6s plus. Will wait for the 8s or whatever it will be called.

Maybe the iPhone 10 will be completely redesigned?!

Are they gonna upgrade resolution or are we seriously still gonna be dealing with 750p in a 2016 flagship

.When did people last complain that an iPhone 6 was a bit silly because it was so thick?

People have never complained about thicknes of their devices since brick phone age!! But after every thinner device released, they will find it hard to go back to the thicker one.

If this is leaking already, Apple are halving iPhone 6s production and sales are falling way short of what they hoped, surely this means and early iPhone 7? Especially with all the really early leaks about things like the 3.5mm jack going...

It means nothing unless you're Apple and know what's going on.

The only upgrade for this is a new look and the A10 chip. The 256gb is the 4th tier which is consistent to Apple offering more choices, like colors, screen size and capacity even iPhone itself. We'll see 16(32), 64, 128 & 256 then silver, champagne gold, space gray, and rose gold. Also 4", 4.7", 5.5" for iPhones then larger display for iPads. Tim's goal would be more choices than ever including Macs.

That, and I'm willing to bet the iP7 / 7 Plus get higher resolution screens and improved camera sensors.

iP7 => 1080p
iP7 Plus => 2208 x 1242

Can you imagine if the picture on the right was the actual form factor of the phone? Capacitive home button, tiny bezels? I would consider that.
