More like what the f---, Apple?

Apple's design is an ugly compromise, asymmetrical mess, certainly not a one up on Samsung.

Look closer, there's less bezel on the sides of Samsung also.

Why are you so obsessed with symmetry? And the Samsung has smaller side bezels because of that horrible edge screen, which breaks if you stare at it too long.

I dont think the budget model will get the 3D touch, it doesnt deserve it.

We need this segregation as people pay alot of money for certain apple products and dont want to be mistaken for having a cheaper device when they spend alot of money.

Yes, I can feel chills going down by spine just thinking about people getting the same features I have on a cheaper device. They don't deserve them!

There are people who are arguing about the design of iPhone 8 vs. S8, and then there’s me hoping that we get a toggle that allows us to choose whether you want to display a dark background or your normal background in those top cutout area of the display (like in the picture in this article) :D I think it looks kinda neat, something different than what we’re used to

Economy class all the way if first class continues to have flawed assymerical displays and protruding cameras.

I dont think the budget model will get the 3D touch, it doesnt deserve it. I think apple will now create a three tier system where we have business/1st class (iphone 8) then second class (regular iphone) and lastly third/economy class (iphone SE).

We need this segregation as people pay alot of money for certain apple products and dont want to be mistaken for having a cheaper device when they spend alot of money.

Who said this was Apple's design?

I think the top cut-out for the front facing cameras and sensors looks very elegant and thoughtfully designed. Of course, we could insist on a design where the top would look like one bezel the full width of the screen which would destroy symmetry between the top and bottom of the phone's screen.

Yea I don't get how that black strip would work with all of the icons at the top. Between the carrier signal icons, battery meter, Bluetooth, location on/off, etc, the strip just won't work seems like.

I'm not sure all of those are entirely necessary. The only things I ever look at are battery, service strength and Wifi signal. The others seem superfluous. I think they only put the stuff up there because they could.

Everything else is ancillary enough that I don't mind having to swipe down/up in the off chance I want to know if my orientation is locked, for example.

How often do most people actually check the time in their status bar or need to know if location services or bluetooth are on? I'm not saying they don't, but I believe the average user does so infrequently enough that putting them in control center wouldn't be unwelcome. In fact, despite the orientation lock icon, I ALWAYS turn my phone horizontally before realizing the orientation is locked. The icon is useless to me. I RARELY look for the location services icon and I never turn bluetooth off, so why do I need an icon?

Maybe the icons could auto rotate every second or so. It only takes a half second to look at your status bar. Another solution would be to allow the user to tap the status bar to shift to another set of icons. Actually, I like this idea better. You're welcome, Apple.

Much nicer looking than the Samsung, but apple should make upper portion like this.

Black camera and speaker grill cutout on top of the screen protector looks awful.it should be transparent like all other screen protectors.

I think, they might even take it further. As you said. Just because Apple has that amount of screen-estate doesn't mean they'll have to occupy it all the time. I imagine something like this:

Why would a screen protector have the black section at the top, and not just cutouts in the transparent plastic/glass like all other screen protectors.

This is the same supposed front panel they showed a week or 2 ago???
Nice to see Apple eliminating all the wasted space on the front, but also sad to see the home button go after being on every iPhone made in the past

I actually like the design of this leak because it is a change from the old big bezel look of the 6, 6S, and 7.

None of these mockups ever want to show it, but there will be a 0.7" function row, even on the Lock Screen. It will probably be OLED black with the Home Button area illuminated. You'll 3D touch that spot and get the same haptic feedback you get on any 7 series. Touch ID sensor will also be right under that spot.

Ooh. DYNAMIC bezels. I can hear the Apple marketing right now! When your phone is locked, the bezels are bigger. That way, you can squeeze more icons in the top and they could have a neat little touch ID animation in the bottom bezel to indicate where your thumb goes. Once unlocked, the bottom bezel drops off the screen and the top bezel shrinks!!! (These would have to actually be animated. Maybe a bouncing sort of animation)

OMG, this would be awesome!

I think it's actually a good design. It allows Apple to use the left side to output signal/wifi info and output Battery/Bluetooth, portrait mode lock/GPS info to the right side.

Having a black strip would create another line to display that info. I think this is good use of area.
I meant the weird shape and inconsistency. Its just not visually pleasing. Top and bottom needs to be symmetrical to make it visually in balance. The black think is just not working right now. And so does the display cutting in on the left and right. Either whole strip across to display along with the same thing on the bottom to have it symmetrical or do something else. As it stands now it just looks awful.

The people who want a carbon copy of the S8 are nuts. It looks horrible. The curved edges are one of the worst design choices since the start of smart phones.

I like the leaks but lets be honest, we have no idea what the next iphone will be.

Why do you assume it's not going to work? Touch ID requires a glass surface and screen protectors are made of glass.
Sure, but there certainly are limits how many glass surfaces can between the actual sensing part and the finger. Put some clear plastic foil over the current fingerprint sensor and see how well that works.
