If it impacted consumer sentiment one iota, this would not be justification. Even with airfreight, transportation of the phone from Asia is an immaterial cost relative to the other investments. The real bugbear is regulation--it's already so in Europe and soon it will be impossible to ship chargers with phones worldwide.
Very good point about regulation, especially in Europe. I had not considered that angle.

Interesting how Samsung includes an ejection pin. Apple includes a SIM removal tool.

That's marketing 101. Name your stuff what it does, not what it is. (granted Apple is lately horrid with naming, thankfully this name came from years ago when Apple was good at naming.)
So they just need to rename it as "SIM ejection pin" right? are you really this dense?

Who is "they" and why would "they" be embarrassed? Samsung is a bunch of people who get paid to show up to work each day, who likely couldn't care less about anything beyond their paycheck.
Maybe that's the problem. I feel like if you work for a company, you should feel embarrassed when it does something embarrassing. If more people took pride in the companies they work for, then companies would be better.

Honestly, I think Galaxy phones are better than iPhones in near every way, but that phone is ugly AF.

Samsung wanted me to keep my iPhone apparently.

No, it's called marketing, you capitalise when someone else does it, then you do it afterwards, then it's less of a big deal when you do it.

Welcome to the marketing Dept of every big company, ever.
I'm just glad that Samsung had to courage to follow suite.

As usual, Samsung copies everything from Apple. From the box, marketing, caring for the environment tag line, even the cases with the smart view.
It was too late to copy the iPhone 12’s industrial design with the straight edges, but there’s always next year!
In all fairness, Samsung hasn't been the copy cat of days gone by since maybe the Galaxy 5. Even in their copycat heyday, they actually produced new and innovative features even if some were a bit gimmicky (like the camera watching your eyes to scroll a page or keep the screen from going to sleep).

After they stopped copying Apple and innovated, they've actually usually surpassed Apple in design and always in features and tech.

Considering Apple is almost never 1st to market with a feature or technology, wouldn't that, dare I say, make them the copycat? Because they really are with almost every product they make. Then the fan boys will say, "But they make it work better and user experience better...."

PS. Apple was not first with SmartView cases either. That was LG.

Evan Blass is a fairly well known/respected writer, {leaker} and author. So I’d say this article is likely accurate. Not surprising though.

Standard Samsung procedure then..... mock Apple, the copy them come their next phone release.

You know what this reminds me of? Buying grey-market electronics in downtown Manhattan stores in the 1980s. "Yeah, we have that fancy Texas Instruments calculator you want. Great price." The charger that was supposed to be included is extra thus making it more expensive than if you bought it from a legit store.

And water is wet....
I will tell you from now...but i guess a lot of you guys knows this already
Apple will remove the port from iphone and later next year, Samsung will do the same...they make fun of apple and after they copy cat Apples decision .....Samsung the definition of hypocrisy

I think it’s more shocking that it still draws attention. They have been doing the mock Apple and then follow them for years.

Samsung, I do not respect a company that does not have the courage to find by themselves new ways to screw the customer, you have a lot to learn from Apple.

After Apple unveiled new iPhone 12 models without chargers in the box back in October, Samsung mocked Apple for removing the power adapter. "Included with your Galaxy," read Samsung's ad, which featured a picture of a Samsung power adapter.
I know Samsung has a history with this....but they typically mock & wait longer before the inevitable falling in line.

If Samsung ships this without a power adapter, Apple should really call them out over it.

I'm really not much of a fan of Apple's virtue signalling/marketing and aggressive focus on profits over user experience but Samsung really need to give up the "take the piss out of Apple's move until the year later we do the same thing" trick.

Haters gonna hate.
Apple isn’t original any longer.
Samsung keeps innovation in their core.

Santa exists and hangs with Easter bunny outside each others’ holiday seasons.
😂 Samsung hasn’t been innovative for years. Even their QLED TVs are a joke.

Samsung used to be stupid with their copying. They went for features that were patented. Nowadays they’re sneakier which lets them copy Apple even more.
It’s more brazen and subtler at the same time so some might miss it, but their strategy and marketing is see what Apple does and try that.
Apple isn’t always first with features but when that happens their approach is look for things that would make a great product or fit into their existing ecosystem, sometimes steal ideas too, yes. But Samsung is 99% do what Apple does.

Btw, I think HTC had smart view cases even before LG, I remember a pixel dot matrix one and maybe more versions. It’s been done for years. The thing is, guess when Samsung decides to release their own version?

I agree and disagree. In some ways I think the larger thing here is who makes something mainstream and then how that mainstream feature is copied....so in the beginning obviously the ENTIRE industry was playing catch up with Apple and the smartphone concept. That was to be expected but the copying was egregious and Samsung specifically was shameless! In the past several years I would say it has been Apple bringing features into the iOS ecosystem that others have had for a while. However, it does seem to be their "version" of it. I think to contrast that you can look at "Samsung Pay". I mean, the market was certainly not new anymore. Google had Google Wallet for a while and this type of system has been around long before Apple releases Apple Pay. But Apple does release Apple Pay and makes it mainstream. Then what happens? Rather than Google sticking to Google Wallet and just adding features to that, they make Google Pay. Rather than Samsung getting their marketing team to make their version of it, enhance and make it better, they just copycat the name as much as legally possible to ride the Apple Pay bandwagon. For me, and maybe others, THAT is why Samsung gets the eye roll. Not because it is bad that everyone in the industry eventually adopts features of their competitors (that happens in all industries), it is just the WAY that Samsung does it.
