I was thinking about it last night. I don't know if the pic is true or not, but why would someone make a fake mockup after 500+ days since last refresh of this product.

$381 MacMini

Because making a mock up 1 day after release is stupid, and 500+ days is going to convince more people.

However, the mac mini in the photo is still white and aluminium when the rest of the mac line is black instead of white. I doubt the mini would still be white, so either this is fake or this is is a prototype made from old parts or something
Just went to the Apple store, afraid I may have missed updates on all their other computers. Couldn't find one single black computer. Looks like all the systems are either aluminum or white.

There are Bluetooth keyboards with USB, and the current Apple Keyboard has USB 2.0 now, as opposed to 1.1.

The current apple wired has usb 2.0, but can only power things that dont need charging. So usb dongles are fine, as long as they fit in that very small gap u get. Ipods needs full power usb slot, but thinks like card readers word fine.

This whole 5 usb port need is a bit excsive, as you wouldnt normally have all youre usb items you possible own in your entire house hold plugged into one computer at the same time. Especially if you intend to use it under the tv, were you want it to look clean. Although people have forgot that you need one for the LED display, so you would only end up with same as what you had on the old mac mini.

If I was in charge of developing the new Mac Mini, the first thing I would put on the whiteboard on the first day is...

$499
And a $5k bonus to everyone if we can make it $399.

Paying what we do now for these terrible Mini specs is just absurd.

But anyway, as for the photo, I think it's a prototype at the moment; however we can only see the final verdict on keynote day. ;)
Did you think no one on on of the most visited Mac boards would listen to macbreak weekly? Good call:rolleyes:

Most of latest Apple products don't have white colors anymore. The most dominant materials are aluminum and glass with a little bit of black color in the frame of iMac's screen and on new cinema LED displays. iPods & iPhones use black color a lot too. An Aluminum-glassy Mac mini, maybe transparent, with a little bit of black, I think it would be cool design!

Cool but kinda disappointed that it doesn't have a new design. I thought apple might have gone for aluminium and black to go with the rest of the product line. It could have also been a bit thinner.

More like a $5K bonus if we can get the price point to $599 and keep the costs the same or lower.

That might be close to the specs for the next mini, but it won't be that cheap.

The pound has dropped 25% in value compared to the dollar since the last mini came out. If anything, expect the price to increase when the new models are announced.

Sorry, my mistake. The price was from memory, the iMac is £772, the Mac Mini is £391.

That's $556 USD including 15% VAT (equivalent to $483.48)

Baring in mind the lower cost of 2Ghz - 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo CPUs, RAM, 2.5" drives and the fact these days Apple aren't over-charging the UK like they've always done till the dollar became weaker.

I don't see why they couldn't sell it for £399 including VAT and appease all the people who are still going to complain about how dated the technology is by not using Quads by lowering it to $499, leaving the prices as they are in the UK as an apology for all the inflated prices we've being charged by them over the years

:-D

Faker than fake. No way will there be mini DVI AND displayport. Makes no sense.

It does, dual display support without using precious space that could be used for an extra USB Port or having to leave Firewire off making it useless for audio recording because only USB 3.0 can read/write at the same time.

I also wanted an HDMI port.

I wonder how many of us are really just looking for a beefy Apple iTV?

I am!

Why would they have HDMI on the mini? It doesn't make any sense to me...

but either way, I'm hoping for a refresh soon

Macworld '10?
Because I don't want to have a monitor, I want to use my TV instead. :)

If Apple wants to sell more they should put in an HDMI port for everyone I know hates the fact that an adapter is needed - and some have flat refused to buy one for that reason. The adapter does not function on my Hitachi Directors Series - so the Mini cannot be used on my TV. That is a shame as I would like one for use with Hulu, DVD's and other media based applications. The AppleTV SUCKS for that and without hacks cannot be used for the things that a Mini can. I wind-up using my PS3 with Linux for my media use and web-work.

D

I agree, I can't use a DVI-HDMI adapter either, Samsung said specifically that a computer can't use the HDMI port on my tv. :( I'm guessing that it was due to the DVI not being able to handle HDCP, but if Display-port can and they make a Display-Port-HDMI cable, I'm sold! :)

People will pay money for the Mini. I sold both of these and in addition, $100 extra on each for a hard drive upgrade, one wanted a 7200RPM 320GB and the other wanted a 500GB 7200RPM drive. I've sold about 15 of these over the past year and all at or above the price these sold. I use the 1.83Ghz Refurbed Models for all upgrades.

The New Mini will be identical to the MacBook Unibody with the exception of FireWire.

Because of the poor exchange rate the Mini is actually cheaper in the UK than the USA now.

But when they recently upgraded the MacBook, the low end white model had it's price reduced by $100 in the USA. In the UK the price went up by £20 to compensate for the low exchange rate.

Like I said earlier, don't be surprised if the price of the new Mini increases in the UK.

If you have it under the TV and want it "to look clean", then don't use all five USB ports. For those of us who use Mac Minis for other things, the more USB ports the merrier! It was great when they moved from two ports to four, and if they have room to add a fifth USB port, then why not? I have tons of USB peripherals and it takes no time at all to use five ports..

- Keyboard
- Mouse
- CF/SD card reader
- External USB hard drive
- iPhone/iPod
- Printer
- Scanner
- UPS

That's eight items right there. Even if you can plug one or two items into the keyboard, you still don't have enough USB ports without using an external hub.

DVI IS ABLE TO HANDLE HDCP. It's just a question of the company if they want to implement it in their chips which generate the signal.

Interesting. Looks legit, but I was half-expecting/hoping to see MagSafe for power, which would make it an awesomely elegant desktop to go with the LED 24" display.

...on a desktop? A power adapter that is MADE to fall out easily? You're joking, right?

I Think I can safely assume:

General consensus is, it is fake.

The actual photoshop users say it's real.

The rest say its fake because of illogical things like "number of USB ports" and "two display outputs" when these things are not illogical. What is illogical is the case design that hasn't changed.

So the informed opinion is that it is real, but that it isn't necessarily anything but a prototype.

Please. The PowerBook and MacBook Pro cases were different enough to categorize them as different cases.

Yeah, that iSight sure was a leap.

Oh, look. They moved the optical drive to the other side...

Then why would my TV manufacturer specificly state in it's owners manual a PC can only use the VGA port and not the HDMI ports to display on the TV?

Its about time they considered dual monitor ports! Been wanting to get a Mini for ages to use as a media centre. I doubt they'll keep the white and aluminium casing though. I heard that the Combo/Superdrive whatever they decide to use can be replaced by apple for another SATA drive for those wanting a cost effective xserve option. I rate this will be coming sooner than you all expect
