Looks good, I just can't understand the Mini keeping FireWire but the MacBook has lost it.

I think the MacBook may have been a compromise due to power consumption and heat issues, among other things. I wouldn't be surprised to see it return and have Steve make a big deal about it in a year or two.

Fake, please let it be fake

imagine waiting all this time for THAT same uninspiring oversized-drinkcoaster external design.

maybe it won't have an Atom in a case that big. quad core? now that would be worth the same old external design

Wrong. DisplayPort carries sound. MINI DisplayPort even carries sound. Apple just doesn't support it in OS X.

Dear Apple,

Regarding the Mac Mini:
HDMI already!!!

Love,

Humanity

Dear single person,

Dumb idea. It's not a TV.

DDR3? Fake.

Uhh... that's the ONLY thing that it can get and have an upgrade of any sort.

Any upgrade will have DDR3. I don't understand why the heck this is not understandable.

DisplayPort can technically carry sound, just Apple has appeared to have disabled it.
That seems to be the case. I thought that the new LED Cinema Displays uses DisplayPort for the built-in speakers, but it turns out it uses USB. When I first read your comment, I thought you were incorrect, but I checked Apple's website:

Apple.com said:
On the back of the display, you’ll find three self-powered USB ports. You enable them — along with the built-in iSight camera, microphone, and speakers — the moment you plug the USB connector into your new MacBook. Connect a printer, camera, iPod, iPhone, whatever you like. And they can stay connected, so you can just grab your MacBook and go.

Let us not forget Apple first marketted the mini to be used under the TV, so don't be surprised when people do that and thus ask for a HDMI port. Not many TV's come with a DVI anymore.

All the ports on the back of Macs have an icon to display the connection type of each port. If this was real, there would probably be 5 individual USB icons.

Nope, the current mini only has one USB icon.

No.

You can't shop/rent on iTunes. You can't access YouTube or Flickr or MobileMe.

I'm sure if I sat down and thought about it I could come up with a whole bunch of other things.

I think that Apple will probably limit the amount of content that can be put in front row in Snow Leopard so people will continue buying the Apple TV. The only reason I would consider buying an Apple TV is because of YouTube and iTunes features.

Still, I don't see whats the big deal with HDMI on the Mac Mini. The whole purpose of getting a Mac Mini is to hook it hook it up to one of Apple's $1000 ACD's. That's where Apple is getting a lot of their profit from and is why the next generation of Mac Mini's will probably have Mini DVI only.

- The reflection on the base of the power cord is not showing the Ethernet port correctly.

- Also the base of the power cord isn't straight out, it is 5 degrees or so off from perpendicular. It is not consistent with the lens barreling (distortion).

- The DisplayPort inner shadow is not same as the other ports. It is too dark. Plus the perspective inside the port is off as well for its placement in this photo.

Yep.

Why are people saying the case is not re-designed? The photo shows the edges rounded off as if this were a very larg iPod nano (or mini). The current case uses a horizontal aluminium band. Looks like a new case to me.

I think the below image is self explanatory...

The DisplayPort is smaller in size, with less area for light to diffuse off adjacent faces and lighten the shadow, as it has done in the larger ethernet and FW800 ports.

I'd love this to be real, but hope Apple won't cripple dual display extended desktop capabilities.
But still, it looks too close to the current design…

I hope it doesn't have the Atom inside.

That was one stupid rumor that I don't believe has been in a second "story." Unless Apple is slashing the price of an entry-level Mac Mini to like $299 or $399, don't count on an Atom CPU. I highly highly expect to see a C2D processor in the next Mac mini.

As far as firewire, people should look at the amount of space on the new MacBooks. There isn't near as much space for ports because of all the junk crammed into such a thin computer. Flip all these rumored Mac mini ports on the side and see how much room there is. FireWire will probably stay on as many computers as possible. But when space gets crunched, stuff has to go. I think not including an ExpressCard slot was a mistake, but that's why I have a MacBook Pro.

Dear people who want HDMI,

It's a computer. It's not an Apple TV, it's not a home entertainment center, it's not a Blu-ray/HD DVD player.

HDMI is a TV standard. It is Apple's fault that we will be stuck with a proprietary version of the competitor to HDMI, DisplayPort, but HDMI is a television standard.

Shouldn't this be a Page 2 item? This is faker than Paris Hilton on the red carpet. The giveways: 1) FW400. It's missing from the MB. It probably will go bye-bye in all consumer Macs by the end of the year. FW will be reserved for the pro models from here out. 2) Mini-DVI AND Mini-DisplayPort. C'mon. On a $500 Mac. C'mon. 3) Five USB ports. Five! Yeah right. 4). 2GB RAM standard. Uh huh. Since when does Apple ship a computer with anything more than barebones RAM? And on a budget computer especially.

Come to think of it now, this doesn't even belong on Page 2.

The more I look at it the more I can see this is a completely photoshop'd image. Makes me want to mock up my own and do a better job...

So why ship the mac with Front Row and a remote control?

If people are expecting the mini to power a TV, it's only because APPLE has sent that message.

Yes! Look at all the ports, guys! You can hook up all of your devices to it! No flesh eating ogres! Not here! No standard video ports either! Nothing to see here but amazing USB ports! Keep moving along, please. Just focus on the USB ports for all your printers, and hard drives, and....... scanners, and fax machines, and external modems, and keyboards, and..... web cams! Yup! All that! No need for a monitor, just buy the iMac if you need one of those silly things! Adapters? No adapters, just the iMac! In fact, why even look at this thing? Why would you possibly need it? Those adapters cost $500 anyway, just get an iMac! Oh, you already have a screen? Well that's OK too, just give me $3000 for this Pro here and you can use any monitor you want!

I don't expect this to be real, but if it was.... it would be pretty ****ing retarded in my opinion if you didn't catch that ton of sarcasm I was tossing.

Just a little prediction...

People who are saying that the Mini cant have 5 usb ports because of the current iMac, I think that both new ones could. Besides, you cant compare a new model to a model that hasn't been updated in a year.

about firewire, I'd say:
next gen Mini: no firewire
next gen iMac and Pro: firewire

about looks:
next gen Mini: thinner, maybe a little wider and black and aluminum.
next gen iMac: no chin, back will be silver
next gen Pro: front mesh will be black, like Tallest's thread.

about specs for the mini:
2.0 or 2.4 Intel core 2
2 gigs standard, 4 gigs build to order
160 gb drive on all models

about specs for the iMac:
2.66, 2.8, 3.06, 3.2
2 gigs for 20 incher, 4 gigs for 24 incher
20 and 24 (obviously)
5 usb ports
250 gb, 320 gb, 500 gb (the same) except high end 24 might have 1tb.

about specs for the Pro:
er...dont really know much about this one. :p
Check out Tallest's thread

I know this is for the Mini, but I just wanted to comapre it to what I think is coming on the next gen desktops.

Edit: I was thinking, why wouldn't the Mini have DVI/VGA? Most current PC users dont have the newest monitors...but I guess they could just get an adapter.
