As much as I wanted the antenna bands reduced, and a non-protruding camera lens, it's clear to me that whatever Apple designs for the number iterations -like the iPhone 4,5 and 6, becomes the standard design for the S iterations. Maybe this is for consistency as the iPhone 6 and 6s are the '6' era phones, so that's their trademark 'look', or maybe they just horde major design differences for the next numerical iPhone so it's seen as a bigger 'jump' and upgrade to the public, who knows?

So now I'm expecting a protruding camera again. And in fairness to Apple, if people still bought iPhones in their millions, why bother spending the extra time and effort fixing minor design flaws and just focus their design efforts on the '7' era of iPhones? It's actually very logical and makes a lot sense for them to do -as much as I may dislike the camera bump!

The spec sheet will be the deciding factor on getting this phone or sticking with my 5.

Whatever the specs will be, you need to upgrade your iPhone 5. Check the benchmarks difference between your iPhone and newer ones. I know what exactly your case is as I have been using a 5 till last week

It seems like this iteration of iPhones will be almost impossible to tell apart, at least for the same-colored ones. You can tell the difference really easily between the iPhone 5 and 5s with the Touch ID ring and different colors, and you can tell the difference between the iPhone 4 and 4s (not as easily) with the antenna breaks and mute switch placement. Things might go back to the iPhone 3G and 3GS where the only difference in the outside was the letters on the back.

So the S version is basically the same with better specs?

But will it be thinner? I'm sure this is what everybody wants to know.

1 thing different is , 7000 series aluminum , that better than iphone 6 ,,,

I'm not sure why the comments about "where's the innovation" when it concerns an "S" variant. That's never been the case.

2 things that would make for a cool update to iPhone 7 would be an illuminated Apple logo and an assassination of the home button.

yes, better camera please. My friends and I have seen several Samsungs that have simply much better cameras especially in low light. Not sure why they are better but Apple seems to have some catching up to do.

That's SIMPLY NOT TRUE. Go on actual real camera sites and not trash Android site for camera info. How can they have better low light performance with the SAME SIZE SENSOR and smaller pixels with more noise. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

So, I call BS on that. 100%.

Apple has had the better camera for years. Simple as that, so I can't take you seriously.

They could have better broad daylight resolution (more pixels are OK in good light), but that's it.

I would expect a protruding camera on the 7, also. They know people don't like it -- Ive himself doesn't like it -- but they're obsessed with thinness. I don't think it's going away.

Huh! What!
5S had :
- A7 (first 64 bit mobile processor and landmark (still not done by others!))
Double the graphic performance of the A6, put other ARM chipmakers on the defensive
- Touch ID (first widely distributed biometrics on mobile, not really done as well by others 2 years later)
- M7 motion coprocessor
- True tone flash (still not fully implemented in other phones)
- F2.2 aperture (15% more light gets into the sensor)
- 10 photo burst mode (nobody was close to doing that in other phones then, shot to shot was very slow for them)
- 120 FPS recording and electronic stabilisations (both require hardware support)
- Huge increase in number of LTE bands covered, making it closer to being a world phone for LTE.

The first two improvements shook up the industry; they essentially set up the table for the Iphone's 6 huge success.

The 5S was a very major upgrade. A bigger one than the 5; same with the 3GS being a major upgrade to the 3G. I'm still using the 3GS, but I don't think I'd even think of still using the 3G.

I'm thinking Apple will do enough with Force Touch that you will care about it. Hardware is nothing on its own, but when you add good software to utilize it ...

Force Touch & (likely) split screen multitasking - it looks like a worthwhile upgrade to me! Hopefully the optical image stabilization will be included on all phone sizes as well ...

I do really like force touch on my macbook pro. But its not a feature that I'm jumping up and down for.
