They could be real. We always said the 3G iPhone cases were fake and they turn out to be real. I can't wait to see the new iPhone this summer! :apple:

Could be a fake, but a well done one at that. There is a thread like this in the iPhone general forum as well.

I would take this over the current iPhone 3G glossy back but if it comes at the cost of signal reception...It may or may not be worth it.

If the back needs to be plastic for the antenna, then how is it that wifi works in my MacBook Pro? It's ALL aluminum. And don't tell me the antenna is behind the display - because it could be behind the iPhone's display if that worked.

And don't tell me it doesn't block wifi and only blocks cell phone reception, because if that were true then the iPod touch wouldn't need the plastic part.

I really want to know.

I doubt the entire back would be metal; maybe it's metal with a layer of plastic on the outside housing the antenna. Or, hell, maybe it's Apple's ceramic thing coming to fruition.

If its a new MBP, it has a plastic window. If its an old macbook pro (like mine) it has pretty poor wifi compared to other plastic laptops. This is a well known issue with the all aluminum macbook pros, and why they added the plastic window on the back to the new ones.

The plastic back did provide for better reception though right? What was the black MacBook made out of? Could this be the same material. That way it would be "grippier" without sacrificing service. But like another poster said, grease marks to the max

It looks like there is a rubberized texture on the back, if there is that would be awesome because that stuff feels so good in the hands.

My buddy "in the know" sent me the specs, looks pretty nice.

I'm looking all over my laptop right now and see no such plastic window. Mind pointing me in the right direction?

Also, having owned a plastic MacBook, several MacBook Pros and a Powerbook ... I can honestly say that I haven't noticed any difference in wifi reception.

I prefer the glossy, and i really dont see the point in getting excited over a new back cover.

Well I carry mine without a case (though I do have an InvisiShield on the front) and I would love a metal back that wouldn't scratch or leave smudges and finger prints. I'm am however, surprised at how well the backing on my 3G has withstood everything so far (very light/minimal scratches).

The Wi-Fi module is in the black plastic display hinge.

Apologies if this has been pointed out, but is that a double-sided camera hole? As in maybe for front side video conferencing added to regular camera?

you what would make me even more excited if they illuminated the apple symbol like in the mb:eek:

And doesn't look like we'll be apple to upgrade cheaply since our 3Gs were subsidized (unlike original iPhone owners.)

Some of the original iPhone owners didn't jump for the 3G iPhone when it came out. I will be very happy to upgrade this summer if this rumor is true :)

It's on the back, under the hinge from memory (as i said i have an older one). Like a black section?

I have an original Macbook Pro. My dad has an original Macbook. We've traveled many places with them and I can attest that he gets MUCH better signal than I do.

Well, depending on your model...

PowerBook's was here:

MacBook's was here:

And I assume it hasn't moved in the new unibody:

But the question still stands... If this is a metal back on the supposed new phone, how does the signal get out now?
