I was wondering....
I have a friend who works at Apple, and that iPhone has already been submitted to FCC (thus, the document becomes public record)
One thing he noted about the new iPhone is that the case is based on Apple's MacBook/MacBook Pro unibody design.
They took one hunk of aluminium, and carved it out.
If its a new MBP, it has a plastic window. If its an old macbook pro (like mine) it has pretty poor wifi compared to other plastic laptops. This is a well known issue with the all aluminum macbook pros, and why they added the plastic window on the back to the new ones.
sorry to rain on the parade, but those are fake. In the first picture you can see the bottom of the phone, and there's no holes for a speaker, mic, or even a dock connector, which means that the pics are either of a crazy new design where the mic disappears and the speakers dont exist and you cant sync the phone, or its fake

Fake it has the FCC logo on it and it clearly isn't FCC approved yet
Got it. Anyway, there's no doubt in my mind that the piece in the photos in the OP are plastic. Nothing about them looks metal.
My girlfriend has a plastic MacBook. We have never been anywhere where she could get wifi and I couldn't. My router is through 6 insulated walls and my MacBook got 2 bars and my MacBook Pro gets 2 bars as well.
Here I am denying it.
Fake!

That looks really nice. But does the back material really matter? Everyone just puts it in a case anyway.
My ideal version would be aluminum with a glowing apple on the back when in use ;-)

i like it a lot. much better improvement over the glossy back
Yeah, I think what Apple is trying to do is make the strongest material possible that won't get scratched up. The first iPhone was strong but can be scratched over time pretty easily and the iPhone 3G is not as strong because it's not metal but cannot be scratched too easily. If Apple can find the perfect material, people would not have to buy a case to protect it.
Here's to hoping it comes in a CDMA Verizon version![]()
Um... nope.
