I do believe these to be real: It would make sense that these are supposed to replace the 1st and 2nd "regular" AirPods. I think the idea with these is that they're designed to be both "on-ear" and in-ear, meaning that you can use them with silicone tips but also without. It might even be the case that Apple doesn't give you the silicone tips in the box, that it's an additional purchase as is the case for so many Apple products.
I expect these to have much improved sound over all current AirPods, so the incentive to upgrade from either regular or Pro AirPods will be quite evident. These will lack ANC but the sound will be much improved over the current AirPods Pro and possible also improved battery life as another result of no ANC.
In true Apple fashion, the better sound you get from these AirPods "Better Sound" will push many to upgrade because of how mediocre the sound is in both AirPods and AirPods Pro. But then, in late 2021 or 2021, Apple will launch a true upgrade to the AirPods Pro with ANC and possibly more features rendering these much less attractive.
I personally cannot stand anything in-ear regardless of all the things manufacturers do to improve the downsides. So I will definitely be getting these if they are "on-ear" and have improved sound and battery.
