So happy they're not going to be in ear. This looks like a great update to give them the newer Pro look as well.

I said before they will just have the pro design externally but won't be in ear. No one believed me though and had a meltdown over it.

A new set of renders claims to showcase the design of the upcoming third-generation AirPods, which could be announced during a rumored Apple event later this month.

The renders were shared by Gizmochina, which claims to have received the renders from a "supplier." The images depict AirPods with a shorter stem, similar to the AirPods Pro, and a smaller charging case. This information lines up with reporting from Bloomberg which states that the design of the new AirPods takes inspiration from the AirPods Pro, although they will lack certain Pro features such as Active Noise Cancellation.

The renders should be taken with a grain of salt. However, the images were shared by the Twitter account @Duanrui1205, which has in the past shared accurate information, possibly adding validity to them. The renders also fall in line with alleged real-life images of the upcoming AirPods, which show them with a smaller stem and replaceable ear tips.

Just this week, Chinese leaker "Kang" reported that Apple is planning to hold its long-awaited spring event on March 23. That event is expected to headline AirTags, new iPad models, and possibly the updated third-generation AirPods. Apple is also working on second-generation AirPods Pro, which are rumored to be more compact by eliminating the stem and adopting an earbud design similar to the Galaxy and Google Buds.

Same airpods, gotta change the shape or something to call it 3rd gen. The fact that we go from a “rumored” event to “rumored” 3rd generation makes it sound like too many speculations imho.

Now that Apple products are everywhere and lost the premium feel i just feel like buying something different.... to “make the diference.” 😅

The speaker grill end of the ear piece looks thicker compared to the current airpods. Hope it doesn't create a fit issue, if this is the final design

I can’t tell if they have the same flat design as my existing wired earphones. I hope so because they are really comfortable to wear.

I hope they can make the microphones suck even more (is that even possible? Yes, yes it is!) so they can pad their bottom line a bit more?

NO TIPS....as I figured. Never made any sense they would charge 50 bucks just to have ANC be the only difference between the Airpods 3 and the Pro. Also tons of people including myself think the pros are quite uncomfortable.

AirPods are the Apple device I thought I wanted just for giggles, and would never use. However they are probably my most used Apple device since I bought them. Even use them more than my Powerbeats Pro

Why not keep the original design? Who asked for this? I don’t want in-ear headphones!

you want some cheese for whine? You aren’t the only customer. It doesn’t matter what you asked for or want. Don’t want it, don’t buy it

I still don't get what's new about them besides copying the pro design..
Second this. It's odd that nothing functional has been leaked.

If the new AirPods have better sound or spatial audio support, I could see an update being very attractive. Just changing the design to make the stem smaller is not a compelling upgrade story.

I'm glad there are no tips. The silicone tips are annoying to me unless you have transparency and noise cancelation. Otherwise you get that "fingers in your ears" feeling where everything in your head is amplified--chewing noises, your own loud voice if you're talking, or if you hum to the music, etc. I guess at least there would be no cable rustling noise in these though. The tips can also be tiring comfort-wise, but that's a different issue..

This model is supposed to be used both with and without the tips.
Yes I sure hope that is the case. The AirPods 1 & 2 are very comfortable for me to use, all day long and there is no discomfort at all, they sound fine. I returned the Pros because I disliked those tips stuck into my ear. Tried all three sizes and one side would not seal or stay in properly. I read somewhere the Pros have been the most returned product in the history of the company. After my experience I can see why, if it's true.

I'll be happy to check out any new or improved features on the 3rd version. Hopefully they'll be just as comfortable for me to use.

They're down to about 25 minutes use before they die and need a recharge. They're four years old now I suppose, but really maybe used them once a week over the years.

Wow, even at 4 years that's pretty bad.

this blows. these won't be tappable like the originals, but you'll have to squeeze them, i bet. i'm stocking up on gen 2 of originals if this is in fact true...

My original Airpods are starting to get shorter and shorter battery life... Maybe 25 minutes now. I like so much about them, the quick charge case, but hopefully there will be increasingly better battery health tech in these before I get another pair.
I still get over 2 hours after 1200 full recharges
