That would effectively require it supporting both wired and wireless charging. That seems unlikely.
no it really wouldn’t, let it behave like pencil 1 where connecting it via the port (with a cable if they use a female usb-c) initiates pairing and then make it work with all iPad screens. there’s no need for wireless charging.
update pencil 2 later when new pro’s launch.
and give them all serviceable batteries please.

I don't usually buy into the super lean, minimalist product lineups, but having a base iPad and a slightly less base iPad does seem a bit too messy. I think keeping the 9th gen was only meant to be a temporary measure while they get the manufacturing cost of the new design down, so hopefully both the 9th and 10th gen can be replaced by the 11th gen, and it they will be able to offer it for ~$349 (closer to what the 9th gen costs now).

It will be a shame for those who prefer the home button design, but Apple does seem to be drawing a line under it now, with the new iPhone SE rumours as well. I guess they can't go on with supporting both styles indefinitely. If they did want to continue they could have just bumped the old design up to the A14 chip last year.
I think they keep the old form factor in the lineup for the education market.

No one who owns a Pencil 2-capable iPad would be interested in that, unless maybe it’s vastly cheaper. It just doesn’t make sense from Apple’s perspective. They made the Pencil 1 and 2 incompatible for a reason. If Apple would have wanted to make the Pencil 1 compatible with the USB-C iPad Pros (and now the iPad Air), they would have done that from the beginning. They potentially could still do it just by changing iPadOS.

Apple continues to label anything less than 1 year from it's release date as "new". The 10th gen iPad was released on October 18, 2022 so only a couple days until the new label comes off.
I don't think this is true. I've usually seen the "New" label go away when a new model of some sort is released. In this particular case, I think it's still there mainly because no other iPad has been released since October 2022 to take away its "New" status.

For example, the September 2021 iPad and iPad mini lost their "New" labels in March 2022 when a new iPad Air was released. That iPad Air lost its "New" label in October 2022 when the current iPad and iPad Pros were released.

However, the iPhone 14 lost its "New" label sometime in June. I can't explain that one...it wasn't a year and no other iPhone models were released.

I literally bought a 9th gen last month 😢
I just bought one last week. But I got it for $249 for the 64GB model, so I'm not complaining. My 8th gen with 32GB was always wanting me to delete stuff to take an iOS update and got tired of that noise.

That’s your opinion but for example I own multiple iPads and rarely use the pencil so there’s no way I’m buying 2 incompatible pencils for 2 iPads.
They only made them incompatible to sell more pencil 2’s.

New-old iPad… more of the same. Zero innovation in the entry level. Same mediocre display and battery tech since forever…

I’ve never seen such a delicious array of leaks. The 11th-gen won’t do for me because it doesn’t have P3 color or a laminated display but I hope the Air gets a refresh!
Without a laminated display, the price jump than came with the 10th gen just doesn't make sense.

I want a mini for reading e-books (iBooks?) and magazines at work, so I’m holding out for an A16 refresh.
Why not get a Fire HD 8? It's like $70-80 on sale, and does the job as a ereader/magazine reader. Plus you can spend more on books/magazines. And ereading doesn't take much space/power.

In all likelihood, the Apple Pencil 1 will simply get a version with USB-C charging. The iPad 11 update will almost assurdly bring the USB port to the device.

The Apple website still indicates the iPad (10th generation) as a "new" item.

The major contributing factor there is Apple continuing to sell the iPad gen 9 at the same time. It should be obvious that a "gen 10" is newer than a "gen 9" but it doesn't hurt to reinforce that. Technically the name is simply "iPad" with no other adjectives mini/Air/Pro etc. So it is pragmatically indicating "Newer than that other one you might buy".

But as far as 'time on website', The MBP 14/16" and Mini are not 'New', but they really don't have competing systems with the same form factor differing only on "age".

Will be interesting to see if Apple keeps the iPad 9th gen around after they do the 11th. Or will the 10th trickle down to the 9th's price point? Or the 11 just comes straight in and replace them both at the lower price point? ( the last would make more sense. The 9-10 combo may have been a pandemic logistics fluke. Keep selling the 9th because nothing new to make and can keep prices lower. )

Will the Amazon or Walmart's 2022 iPad 10.2" Wi-Fi 64GB be sold at $249 when the 2023 model comes out?

The 2021 model's sold at that price point
