Is there any point in purchasing the 12? I usually upgrade every year, but thinking I'll just wait the 9 months for a 13...its not like the 12 looks to have any worthwhile features & appears to be a bit of a yawn fest.

Its also not like 5g is of any use either, it's still limited availability & a lot of us just work from home with high speed internet anyway..
Sure, skip the 12, but don’t expect the 13 in July or August. End of Sept, first week or two of October would be more typical.

Depends what phone you are upgrading from doesn’t it? If you upgrade every year then every upgrade is going to be rather boring by comparison.

I have a 6s with 128GB
I have 53GB just for my music alone.
I currently have 5 GB available.
My 6s has been a workhorse. My next iPhone will be at least 256 or maybe even 512

Why not just stream Apple Music?

I’d be willing to bet you don’t listen to most of that music most of the time and/or haven’t listened to it in years.

64GB is just fine as a starting point for basic model. I never went over 55GB on my 1st gen SE, that's with latest half year of my photos/videos locally, a lot of music and more apps that I actually need. After subscribing to Apple Music and a little bit of "optimisation" of apps, I'm currently on 40GB. With cloud photos I might even manage with 32 GB model, but that would be really pushing the limits and not worth it.

Anyway, 50$ extra for 128 is IMO fair price, if you really need it. For expensive pro models it is definitely correct that they start with at least 128.
The cameras have come a long way since the SE, and require more storage per item

64GB base storage for the iPhone 12? That is pretty crap and Apple have no excuse in 2020 to be pulling that sort of con. Disappointing if true and seeing as it’s Prosser, it probably isn’t.
L0vetodream already told us last May, it’s true. In a truth table, Prosser is a DC.

Would you rather have a 64GB base model at $749, or 128GB base at $799?

Apple gives you both options. Are you really sure you want the cheapest 12 mini to be $799, just so everyone will have 128GB? Many (most?) don’t need that.

I store no media on my iPhone. I stream everything and all my pics are neatly organized in Dropbox. 64 GB is more than enough. Some of you need to rethink how you save your media on your iPhone.
Yeah I always wonder what the folks that go for 512 GB are doing with their phones. I’m similar to you, although I keep a few of may favourite playlists downloaded in case I’m in an area with crappy cell reception (common in the mountains here). I have 83 GB free on my 128 GB iPhone 🤷‍♂️

Isn’t Apple Music £9.99 a month? If that person doesn’t listen to most of their music collection they’ve got saved, then they aren’t going to listen to most of what Apple Music offers.

I happen to have Amazon Prime mainly for deliveries but at least with that you get video and music thrown in whereas Apple TV is yet another monthly subscription on top again. I can see why it lacks appeal to some.

I guess that’s where the Apple One bundle will help.

I just took a quick look at unlocked iPhone 11's on Swappa. Out of 75 available for sale 53, or 70%, are 64 GB storage.

This is just a single data point, but it lends credibility to the idea that a majority of people don't value higher storage enough to justify the higher price.

The carrier specific units follow a similar trend with AT&T being the outlier. With 25 phones listed for sale 11 are 64 GB (44%), 13 are 128 GB (52%) and one is 256 GB (4%). I wonder if AT&T was running a special at some point.

I’d rather have a 128GB at £749 and not have my pants pulled down on the price if I’m brutally honest. Apple have been pulling the premium card for storage for many years now and it’s time they moved with the times. I understand they do it to promote iCloud storage subscriptions which many of us reluctantly use. I have no interest in the iPhone 12 Mini as it’s too small for me personally.

Good, I would loose my damn mind if a "Pro" device would start with only 64 GB in the year 2020 and 5 GB of basic iCloud Storage. 4K only goes so far if you got no where to store it. Its almost a principal thing. Now I just hope they don't increase the price ...

In fact, I still have almost half left on my 64 GB device (I also pay for 200 GB of iCloud storage) but I would prefer not even having to think about it. Every week I check to make sure I am not gonna run out of storage. More storage, easy mind. Part of it may or may not be OCD though haha I never enabled 4K because I am worried about using too much space.

TBH I wonder how we ever managed to live with 16 GB on an iPhone. I am still using my iPhone 6s as a secondary device with literally 4 third party apps and I am running so low on space, that Instagram could not even update the other day. Crazy!

Of course everyone always wants to pay less. I’d love a 128GB at $599 or $699, but that’s not going to happen either 🤷‍♂️

They are a little late to the party with it though by a few years. If it’s more than £79 a year then it struggles to compete for some. I have Apple TV as we have a 12 month free subscription from an iPad purchase, but based on current content I won’t be paying for it beyond that. It’s times like this where I really have to scrutinise what is being offered and right now Apples services are more expensive. Not at all interested in Arcade if I’m honest as I don’t play computer games.

I couldn't imagine using anything less than 128gb on an iPhone and especially iPad. I'm thinking I might do 256 on my next iPhone just to have some extra space.

So that is looking like

$1149 iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB
$1049 iPhone 12 Pro 128GB

$749 iPhone 12 128GB
$699. iPhone 12 64GB

$649 iPhone 12 Mini 128GB
$599 iPhone 12 Mini 64GB

Getting a new iPhone starting at $599...... seems like very unApple. If I remember correctly that is the iPhone 3G launch price.

So it could be $50+ the above price. Although it would make great headlines, New iPhone starts at $599.

It doesn’t mean you can’t voice your frustration or change buying preferences though. Apples higher costs are the reason I got fed up and bought last years devices the last two upgrades. I didn’t lose out that way. It might yet be a situation where the cost of an iPhone 12 is too close to the cost of an 11 Pro and the latter becomes more appealing. One less sale for the latest device
No point getting in me getting upset over it as there are always options.

I pin and then unpin music for flights. I’ll download some podcasts too for flights as desired.

I am also fine with 64GB of storage, but it's not really any of our business how other people save their media is it? Maybe they have good reasons.
I’m simply sharing my approach. IMO too many people store everything unnecessarily on their phones and it becomes a mess of a camera roll plus the growing albatross of larger iCloud monthly plans.
