You should try it in the UK. A tiny island smaller than many US states yet signal is still patchy. People are excited for 5G yet 4G isn’t even available in many parts!
I certainly lose sight of the idea of spotty cellular service. Can’t remember the last time I had that issue. However I think the bigger issue is people feeling the need to have all their photos and videos on the phone. I see no issue with people downloading music and podcasts to their devices if their coverage is spotty.

I wish the regular iPhone 12 would come with an 512GB storage option, it has the features I want and I can live with two cameras compared to the 12 Pro's three.

I prefer storing lots of data on my phone as the LTE/5G-service is quite bad in parts of the region I live in. So 12 Pro 512 GB it is this year, I find the 11 Pro Max I use today a bit large so 6.1" will be a good sweet spot for my usage.

Lame.

For $699 and a smaller screen, I hoped it would be 128gb.

It doesn’t mean you can’t voice your frustration or change buying preferences though. Apples higher costs are the reason I got fed up and bought last years devices the last two upgrades. I didn’t lose out that way. It might yet be a situation where the cost of an iPhone 12 is too close to the cost of an 11 Pro and the latter becomes more appealing. One less sale for the latest device
No point getting in me getting upset over it as there are always options.
Well I don’t like it either. But I didn’t post about what I wish Apple would do, rather what I think they actually will do.

5G is adding a fair bit of cost, and I don’t see them increasing capacity this year; next year would be a better guess. This year I think we’re probably looking at iPhone mini at $749, but $699 is possible.

They’d definitely sell more at $699 than they would at $749. You get into the $800s and people start thinking $1,000. At $699, you can trick yourself into thinking it’s not much over $500 🤣

Any of their phones priced at $999 should have started at 128/256 GB since 2017 with the X, especially having since they had the capability to shoot in 4k. Skimping on the storage of the base model can lead to a poor user experience, and also felt like a bit of a cash grab by pushing you pay for more storage. This is long overdue, but better late than never I suppose.

It’s just less convenient I suppose because you’ve got to consciously make sure you’ve downloaded the content rather just having it to hand. Also when someone is taking long videos and trying to edit on the go then cloud storage can be awkward with a poor signal. I have iCloud storage and all my photos are stored on it but many times I’ve gone to show someone a picture and it’s just failed to load due to poor signal strength. It’s only as good as your carrier really.

I don’t store music on my iPhone personally as when the headphone jack was taken away, I moved my music off my phone. I now use a separate player on a smaller device that is actually more comfortable to run with.

Ok.... what’s with Apple still living in 2010? 64gb phase model? 5gb base iCloud?

times are still tough over at Apple? They still need to ration storage capacity?

Is there any point in purchasing the 12? I usually upgrade every year, but thinking I'll just wait the 9 months for a 13...its not like the 12 looks to have any worthwhile features & appears to be a bit of a yawn fest.

Its also not like 5g is of any use either, it's still limited availability & a lot of us just work from home with high speed internet anyway..

If you want a small form factor in a more modern package than the SE the 12 mini is a good buy if priced right.

Rumors suggest Apple's iPhone 12 launch event will be held on October 13, with the more affordable 5.4 and 6.1-inch devices set to ship out ahead of the more expensive 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Pro devices, and this morning hit-and-miss leaker Jon Prosser has further committed to that date by providing alleged details on Apple's first shipment of finalized iPhone 12 units.

iPhone-12-Mini-Article-2.jpg

Prosser claims the initial shipment of iPhone 12 units will go out to distributors on October 5 in advance of the launch event, and this will include the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 "mini" – which he says is "definitely the final marketing name" – and the lower end 6.1-inch iPhone 12 model. Prosser asserts that the two higher-end Pro models will be announced at the same event but will ship later in November.

Prosser also claims that the more affordable models will come in 64, 128, and 256GB storage capacities, which conflicts with a claim he made in May that Apple's iPhone 12 lineup will start with 128GB of storage. Prosser's explanation for the earlier misinformation is that it was given "well before even the [production validation test] iPhone 12 units had started," and in fact it is only the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max that will start at 128GB.

By changing his claims about storage capacities, Prosser has aligned himself with proven leaker L0vetodream, who said as early as May that the more affordable 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch devices will start with 64GB while the Pro devices will start with 128GB.

Prosser is a leaker with a mixed track record when it comes to Apple's plans. In August 2020, he claimed new Apple Watch and iPad models would be introduced via press releases. In September 2020, Prosser even narrowed down the day of these press releases to Tuesday, September 8, but no products were announced that day. Instead, Apple sent out invites to its "Time Flies" event, where it did introduce new Apple Watch and iPad models a week later.

Earlier this month, however, Prosser was accurate when he said an eighth-generation iPad and a lower-priced Apple Watch model would be unveiled at Apple's "Time Flies" event, but no new iPhones or AirPods Studio headphones.

Finally gonna get a 1tb pro Max! I’m excited.

Completely as expected. Whoever wants 128GB can get that for $50. I’d guess at least 50% will buy the 64GB, and not to save $50; they simply don’t need more.
That’s what people said when base storage was 16GB. Apple does this for the upsell. The company loves the upsell.

I store no media on my iPhone. I stream everything and all my pics are neatly organized in Dropbox. 64 GB is more than enough. Some of you need to rethink how you save your media on your iPhone.
It's not only media and sometimes it can't be avoided. Especially when you are concerned about privacy and personal property of digital goods (recommended read on that: "The End of Ownership: Personal Property in the Digital Economy"). Not everyone is using another ones PC (aka. cloud) to store their data.

My chat history alone is taking up 40 GB of storage on my device. Most of it is photos (high res at 40-60MP) and video messages (some in 4k), but I only clean up the chat history once a year and offload that media and the messages to my backup. With this alone a 64 GB iPhone wouldn't be enough. Could I keep this much lower? Yes. Do I want to do the cleanup to cold storage every month? No, as I still need access to the history even weeks or months later.

My iTunes library of just the selected tracks needs another 30 GB (it is another 100 GB on my external disk). I am not streaming music, as I own my music and only have 3 GB of data available. And I want to have the ones that I regularly listen to available anywhere I go. Same for the audiobooks I still want to listen to.

Offline navigation requires another 5 GB just for the maps in my most traveled regions. When travelling to other countries this can increase.

Everything else is caches (probably about 50-100 MB per app?) and system memory (which is already 13 GB). Photos is just 1 GB, but this changes during vacations as I download photo from my camera every now and then that need about 30 MB per photo.

And that brings me already rather close to 128 GB. And it is always good to have a decent amount of space left for additional storage needs and iOS updates.

VERY wishful thinking. Expect it to cost $100 for 128 on all non-Pro devices.

Apple only charges $50 for their “low cost” items like iPhone SE and iPad Cheap.

As usual though, I’m happy to be wrong and will certainly eat my hat if they give us 128 base on every single model.

I store no media on my iPhone. ...
You only store it on Dropbox? ... Crazy to think that you only store it in the cloud and only 1 location.
They didn’t say only one location, just not on their iPhone. For all you know, it’s also sitting on a Mac at home.

My iPhone and iPad don’t store all my photos - that would be needlessly wasteful - they’re essentially cached on those devices, using iCloud.

Oh, but my Mac has all the photos, and it’s backed up to Time Machine (locally), and SuperDuper (locally, sometimes offsite), and BackBlaze, and AWS (via Arq). That sounds like more copies than you.

Not in the age of iCloud storage.
How about me? I have over 80 gb music and no intention of ever subscribing to a streaming service. What I want to point out is that not everybody is like YOU (or me). I wish people will stop treating others like idiots, with stupid generalisations. Yes I bloody well know there is something called iCloud storage but it does not solve my problem now. Does it?
