$200 to track five things in my house? I was hoping for better. Plus, larger than a .50 cent piece is pretty big. Bigger than some of the things I want to track.

Hmmm...
Agreed....I was hoping for about the size of a stamp...can only think of one or two things but I would want to place them inside of the object to be tracked! Still, this is just a rumor so I'll wait and see.....

The nearest UK coin is the £2 coin at 28.5mm diameter and 2.5mm thick, so at 32mm by 6mm, the airtags are slightly bigger according to the rumour. Having said that it’s smaller than the Tile Pro, which is 42mm by 6.5mm, though that has a replaceable battery which will increase thickness while it isn’t clear what kind of battery airbags has. For those wondering if they’ll be too big, I’ve been using various Tiles on my house keys key ring since they came out and currently use a Tile Pro and has never been a problem - well apart from the rate that the Pro goes through batteries.
I think this comment would have been far better suited for the comment I was replying to, not mine directly

Just buy a 4 pack of TILE stickers for 60.00. They've been around for a few years and work wonderfully..and they have a 3 years battery.

Tiles are not very good though. Sometimes it’s right in front of me and the app can’t find them. They have let me down way too many times when i really needed them.

You're going to depend on other peoples iOS devices, like they care? I mean I wish we lived in that kind of world but we don't anymore. Otherwise this is useless for theft in my opinion, unless the thief is stupid enough to stay in bluetooth range. If that is the case, then the person in this scenario was had but someone that dumb. Not good.
As designed it will work in the background . They will not even know. They will just not opt out.

You may not be the target audience for this. Some better uses cases are: a parent who wants to drop one in their child's backpack; a traveler who wants to stick one in his checked bag; a spouse who want to hide one in the frame of their significant other's car.
So insecure spouses in bad marriages is the target market?

People complaining about the price? $39? Peace of mind is priceless.
For the things you stress over losing, $39 is more than worth it.

Probably if people use Apple devices along the route.

However it is uncertain what limits it will have initiated by privacy concerns.

Apple's rumored AirTags item trackers will be slightly larger than a 50 cent coin and around three times the thickness, based on dimensions offered by leaker Max Weinbach (via YouTube channel EverythingApplePro).

According to Weinbach, the AirTags will come in one size measuring 32mm x 32mm x 6mm, which would put the circular devices in the same ballpark diameter-wise as a half dollar piece – a bit smaller than Samsung's Galaxy SmartTags (39mm x 39mm x 9mm) and a little larger than a Tile Sticker (27mm x 7.3mm).

A previous rumor from L0vetodream suggested Apple would make AirTags available in two size options, but it's not really clear why two sizes would be required.

Based on images found within an internal build of iOS 13, ‌AirTags‌ are small, circular white tags with an Apple logo on the front. They will likely be attached to items via adhesive or an attachment point like a ring, and there may be multiple ways to use them with different items.

According to his retail sources, Weinbach says AirTags are estimated to be priced at around $39 each (Samsung's SmartTags are $29.99). When they'll be launched though remains the question.

A new "Items" tab enabled by default in the Find My app in the iOS 14.5 beta has led to some hope that Apple's long-awaited AirTags item trackers will finally be released soon. Apple said iOS 14.5 will be released in "early spring," but a specific release date remains unclear.

Weinbach also believes Apple will announce new products "soon," either via press release or some sort of event, although event rumors remain murky at best. According to a YouTube video by hit-or-miss leaker Jon Prosser, Apple plans to host an April event this year.

Prosser himself acknowledges that it's worth treating this April event rumor with some skepticism since it would be Apple's first April event in 11 years, but he does say the source he got this from has a perfect track record.

Either way, Weinbach's retail source tells him that they are expecting three new products to drop into the tablet, wearable, and accessories categories.

The wearables are "likely" to be new seasonable Apple Watch bands, new colors for the solo loop bands, and possibly a new band style. The rumored new iPad Pro is the new tablet, while AirTags will fall into the accessories category.

Volume shipments of mini-LED display components for a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro will reportedly begin in the second quarter of 2021, which spans April through June. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously claimed that Apple plans to announce new iPads as early as April, including new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models.

Are we going to be able to resell or share those airtags to others?

Are we going to be able to identify an owner of lost and found air tags?

Are people aware that these “strongly anticipated” and overpriced tags can be bought right now. Google “Tile”.

Tile definitely doesn’t “work wonderfully”. They work just about adequately. I didn’t replace mine when the battery died, and wouldn’t have done regardless of the airtags rumours.

You probably can if your cat or package is near Apple devices.
That would basically communicate its last known location to you.
So it won't be as accurate as having a GPS beacon with its own global internet connection inside a package.

For example if the mailman has an iPhone in his pocket you might be able to see a pretty accurate location the day it is delivered. I'm expecting there will be privacy limitations though, and hopefully on the other hand: special privacy proof solutions to support tracking animals / packages.

Is this a recognition that your chances of losing things is increasing in the future? If you're losing things now, you could be using many of the existing products?

I can't understand the thought process that means people will buy something to fix a problem that don't have or they buy the fix in the absence of a problem?
You’re clearly *not* an insurance salesman😁

While I won’t be buying these, I can see its value. I rarely use Find My but I have it turned on in case I need to. This product is a way to extend that capability to otherwise “dumb” items.

When these were introduced (rumored) my immediate thinking was how can I place this on my small child. I'd also put one in my car and on, if I can manage it, my bicycle.
Yeah, might be nice to have on my keys if they can manage a non-cumbersome a keyring adapter. I don't see any sort or attachment on the mockups, which is odd. For bikes, cars, instrument cases, etc. great idea.

The issue with the existing tile is that if not many people in your location are using the app its completely useless.

I'd prefer the logo be on the inside. Screaming "Apple" on the outside kind of draws attention.

A bluetooth tracker for theft. Good luck with that!

Youre very uninformed. iOS would passively help you locate your device. Just like how Tile uses peoples' phones to help locate. There is nothing where someone else has to 'help you out.' It's all done anonymously and passively.
