It seems absurd to me that Apple would unveil a new industrial design for the Intel-based iMac. They would almost certainly reserve the new design for the first Apple Silicon-based machine.
It's only absurd if Apple Silicon (1) runs much cooler and thus does not require more robust thermal design (very likely true) and (2) thermal design on these new Macs have very narrow thermal envelope (probably not true, at least for desktop Macs).

Most pro users need Intel Macs for at least the next year or so (for compatibility and virtualization), so refreshing them with new design and faster processor is a sound decision on Apple's part.

The redesigned iMac will be saved for in-house silicon. How anyone thinks apple will shrink the iMac, yet put the same TDP 14nm intel processors inside, is rather wild.

One more intel design in the current form factor, which should be a rather lovely upgrade, especially in graphics dept.

Then hit us with the 24" next year! (even tho i would want something larger)

The first generation Intel iMac was the exact same design as the last generation PowerPC iMac G5, its not absurd. The Mac mini went relatively unchanged going from the G4 to Intel as well.

With things still as they are, it would make sense to keep the products unreleased until the September/October event. Announce it all then and make whatever is available to ship available immediately after.
With people still facing uncertainty right now, it’s best to kick the ball a little further upfield.
Or the flipside of that - people now working from home more than ever need a new machine :)

In an age of everyone being locked indoors and streaming, I am shocked that they did not at least move up the Apple TV release.. since they did not, I am assuming it uses the latest Apple Chip that will be released in the new iPhones.. what other reason do they have to hold back the release?

l0vetodream has a good track record. Predicted Big Sur naming before the reveal, etc. and I think many iOS 14 details.

Apple's smart to offer one of the last intel products as a redesign. Should sell like gangbusters, even with Apple silicone releases looming.

Just like they were smart to release Intel laptops with fixed keyboards

As for the Apple TV, I'm still trying to figure out what benefit an A12 would be over A10X unless they add something else like more RAM and/or more storage. I'm not convinced they'd use A12Z but who knows?

I’m hoping for a more user-friendly remote. Haven’t been able to replace the full functionality with a Logitech Harmony remote.

Already have two Gen 4 ATVs but prefer to use my Roku Ultras because of the remote issue. But Roku is no longer the service-neutral hardware provider it once was as it’s been holding out for a better cut of HBO Max and Peacock. So I’m looking to move to ATV full time for TV streaming.

Given all the work from home going on now, this is a GREAT time to push iMacs. People are probably tired of working on their laptops and want nice big screens and a solid desktop system.

I'm honestly surprised they haven't released new ones yet.

Also I'd love for the new product line to come out before Big Sur comes out, so we have the option of running Catalina on the new machines for a while if Big Sur has issues.

Whatever they will unveil shortly - it is part of the announced dead-end in the Intel world.
I postponed or even cancelled my projects for new Apple Computer hardware after WWDC and I am not sure, what way I should go - in the need of a reliable Bootcamp-support.
I suppose, it will hardware wise become a split world again. Back to the 68000 world...

What a stupidly non-specific tweet...

Might as well say “Durrrr in my dreamz Apple will do things.”

I guess this is better than a specifically WRONG tweet from Prosser.

Then ship them already!
Although Apple's release pattern varies, (without a keynote) Apple doesn't typically release Macs on Mondays for whatever reason.
