Does feel a bit strange to have last years M1 architecture in the MacBook 16 inch but I’m sure it will come with improvements though. I don’t think Apple ever planned the MacBook 16 inch to come out before this years iPhones

the gpu must be different on the 16" otherswise the 2 years old intel model 5600M will outperform the 16 gpu cores
So the 16" will have the same cpu performance but different gpu perf
I agree, there will be different GPU performance.

TBH after the M1 Air, Apple will really need to wow me with the non-performance related niceties. Number one being the camera. 1080p minimum, but in reality I want center stage like the iPad Pro. Port selection has to be generous, and the new design should be something fresh and not just a marginal rehash of the computer we have had since 2012. Oh and the display has to be quite nice to justify a $2k pricetag when you can grab an M1 Air for $799 on sale.

For those not upgrading from an M1, the M1X will easily be worth the price. The pure performance and battery longevity are unmatched.

Of course Apple will raise prices, it is what they have done regularly since Tim took over. With that being said, I can remember a time when the lowest end Apple portable was very expensive, I spent $1499 on a base model iBook G3 clamshell and I can remeber when the PowerBook was easily $3,000+

I don't think FaceID is coming to their laptops any time soon. I don't think they can't fit the tech inside that thin a housing (the lid). It's why their laptop webcams suck.
I agree with the current Face ID but it'll depend on how thin it gets in the iPhone 13 with the redesigned notch.

Now I'm thinking; I'll stick with my MBP 13" M1.
When they release the 14" with 32GB ram then I'll start thinking; Maybe.
.... 1 month later...
I'm buying the damn thing!

Uh… did you read the article?
The 14 inch and the 16 inch will have the exact same specifications, which has never been done by Apple in the past.
Some people can’t justify lugging around an almost 5 pound 16 inch machine.
This 14 sounds perfect for most people, and for those who only need a bigger screen the 16 inch is around.
But other than screen size you won’t be getting any benefits. So yes, you could buy the 14 inch without feeling like you’re missing out on any power
I hope this proves successful. They could try this with the iPhone too.

Currently, the 16-inch MacBook Pro offers a significant performance improvement over the high-end 13-inch models due to its more powerful Intel chips and better thermals, so bringing the two model sizes to parity could be a major boost for owners of the smaller model.
Not sure I follow the logic of this.
Other than some sort of "feel good" factor, what difference does the spec of the 16" model make to owners of the 13" model?

Also:
If the 16" model has a larger screen and resolution but the same chip,
then it sounds like the 16" model will actually be less powerful than the 13" model.

I am so annoyed with Tim Cook always keeping „last years model“ to justify price increases on updated versions. Steve Jobs didn’t do it. He wanted his users to actually experience to best they can offer and didn’t settle with „last years models“.
This is incorrect. SJ absolutely kept around the older iPhones, iPods and at least one older MacBook current as value-based alternatives to the newer models.
However, from a business perspective it’s smart of course but jeeze, I don’t even want to think of the Euro prices.
I'm not at all surprised about price increases (that won't be confirmed until products hit the streets) seeing as there is a chip shortage, Apple losing money due to COVID because they had to close stores plus with the chip shortage they would need to control inventory. Heck Sony announced there will be no Playstation 5's until late 2022-to early 2023 due to the chip shortage.

Dylandkt also told MacRumors that the 14-inch MacBook Pro will be priced around the current high-end 13-inch model, which it is expected to replace in the lineup, but will be priced much more closely to the 16-inch model due to their similar feature sets and performance.

So the starting prices of 14“ (now 1799$) and 16“ (now 2399 $) will be closer … but which one moves? Will the base 14“ get more expensive (boooooo) or the base 16“ cheaper (🤞)? 2K for a base 14“ seems too high …
