Expect to come with measly 8GB. Hopefully nobody buys them and send Apple a message.
This is such a funny line that I tend to see around here. Apple is too big to fail at this point. Just like Microsoft, Google and Sony. A few people on a forum holding back a purchase to "teach a company a lesson" is not going to make or break these companies and the lost of a few sales from people on forums won't even be noticed. Companies don't measure loss of sales on a product by select missing features. Just like 12" MacBook, it wasn't a big seller and Apple got rid of it. Whatever was "missing" from it that caused a loss in sales didn't force Apple to upgrade it, they just discontinued it. Even if Apple knew why people weren't buying that won't force them to upgrade the base ram.

To me price isnt so much an issue as I keep my machines for a long time (typing this on a 2013MBP - so almost a 9 year old machine). So a few hundred more dollars spread over many years isnt a huge deal. Now I can see it as an issue if you get the latest machine every year.

TO me the issue is there is a lack of information we need to make our next purchasing decision. I feel like the communication from Apple around the next things have been much less this year (supply chain issues are probably a main reason of course).

TBH after the M1 Air, Apple will really need to wow me with the non-performance related niceties. Number one being the camera. 1080p minimum, but in reality I want center stage like the iPad Pro. Port selection has to be generous, and the new design should be something fresh and not just a marginal rehash of the computer we have had since 2012. Oh and the display has to be quite nice to justify a $2k pricetag when you can grab an M1 Air for $799 on sale.

For those not upgrading from an M1, the M1X will easily be worth the price. The pure performance and battery longevity are unmatched.
From what all the rumors are saying, other than the camera you’ll probably get what you want.
Camera: literally all I’ve read is just 1080P, which is fine for a laptop.
Ports: 3-4 USBC, HDMI, SD card, MagSafe.
Design: it’s rumored to get the same squared off sides that pretty much every current Apple product is getting.
Screen: it’s rumored to get the mini LED screen that is the main reason for it taking so long to release

Apple gross margin has usually sat at around 38%, in 2021 that rose to an eye watering 42.5%. Apple is not about offering you value for money, Apple is about charging you the most they can get away with to maximize their profits without you switching platform or not upgrading.

People are all freaking out about price, but it's just an increase over the weird low end 13" MBP. What I want to know is if the price is higher or lower than the high end MBP that this is replacing.

Also with the rumors of both a 16 and 32 GPU core M1X, I expect the 32 core will only be offered in the 16" but I could see the entry models matching up in performance.

Well, I guess I can limp along with my 2017 15” MPB that I spilled orange juice on. Had to replace the logic board, and the battery’s not working well any more, probably has a power leak due to sugar Shorting things out.

But all the prices have gone DOWN for Apple Silicon machines, compared to previous years’ Intel models. I can’t justify spending $2400 (or more realistically $2700…storage and memory+$!) on a 16” machine when I mostly use my iPad for home use anyway.

Maybe the high-end Mac Mini will be a good replacement for the few things I need a computer for. :)

Of course Apple will raise prices, it is what they have done regularly since Tim took over. With that being said, I can remeber a time when the lowest end Apple portable was very expensive, I spent $1499 on a base model iBook G3 clamshell and I can remeber when the PowerBook was easily $3,000+
The first MacBook Air, introduced under Jobs, started at $1799 in 2008. That’s over $2100 in today’s money.
And the computer sucked, it was updated not even a full year after it was released because of its poor performance, and it only got two major upgrades, with support being dropped for it in 2012.

The only thing that'll interest me in purchasing it would be if it had a screen with a high refresh rate. After using my Asus with a 144hz display I can never go back to 60hz.

I love my 2019 MacBook Pro 16, have a Razer EGPU with a 3080Ti card, a 240hz Samsung gaming monitor, 32gb of ram. Have a couple of small USB fans to help keep it from ever thermal throttling. Can Run Bootcamp and Windows 11 to get access to Microsoft game pass and thousands of games and any new Bethesda games. Have a 4TB external Thunderbolt 3 drive that is super fast.

I use the MacBook Pro as my desktop computer now and I use a $600 Chromebook for all my mobile computing needs.
This will be my last Mac Laptop due to a large limitations of the M1 system that everyone likes to skirt around.

I would like to see Apple have some still expandability for their systems. I can buy one of the new HP chromebase desktops that compete with the iMac and it starts at $550 and I can upgrade the SSD with a M.2 card, upgrade the Ram, has Ram memory slots and I could upgrade the WIFI card if I wanted.

I would like to see a small Mac Pro tower that starts at $3000 with expandability, like a M.2 card, video card or memory still, but this is most likely a dream with Apple now.

And it was just yesterday everyone was bitching and moaning how much Office365 was a pile of junk because MS was reported to be raising the price for the 1st time a couple of bucks.

Everyone thinks prices only go down over time?

I'm with you. People think high refresh rate screens are for gamers only. Doing every day things on a 144hz or higher screen is pure enjoyment. But it comes at the cost of more battery usage, so that right there is a no-go for Apple.

Well if true this leaves room for a more expensive MacBook Air next year

With the current Air staying as a budget alternative
And with that... the value advantage of Apple chips goes down the toilet.

Better to stick with upcoming 12th gen Intel and save $1,000.

If the new 14” is going to start at $2k might as well opt for the 16” for $400 more.
That's the Apple way. They love to price things like this closely together for that very train of thought. "It's 'only' a couple hundred dollars more for x upgrade." Then next thing you know you've added $600 on top of what you originally wanted to spend.

The upcoming 14-inch MacBook Pro is set to be more expensive than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro and both the 14 and 16-inch models will offer the same performance, according to the leaker known as "Dylandkt."

M1X-MBP-Feature.jpg

The leaker shared the information on Twitter, explaining that both of the upcoming MacBook Pro models, expected to come in 14 and 16-inch sizes, will feature the same performance due to having the same "M1X" chip.

Currently, the 16-inch MacBook Pro offers a significant performance improvement over the high-end 13-inch models due to its more powerful Intel chips and better thermals, so bringing the two model sizes to parity could be a major boost for owners of the smaller, more portable model.

In addition, the 14-inch MacBook Pro will apparently be more expensive than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro. Dylandkt clarified to MacRumors that this relates to the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro model with the M1 chip, which starts at $1,299.

Dylandkt also told MacRumors that the 14-inch MacBook Pro will be priced around the current high-end 13-inch model, which it is expected to replace in the lineup, but will be priced much more closely to the 16-inch model due to their similar feature sets and performance.

The current high-end 13-inch MacBook Pro, which still features Intel chips, starts at $1,799. A base configuration with 1TB of storage is also available for $1,999. The current 16-inch MacBook Pro, which is not expected to see a price rise, starts from $2,399. This means that the 14-inch MacBook Pro could be priced in the region of $2,000.

Dylandkt has correctly predicted details about a number of Apple's product launches. As early as November 2020, Dylandkt claimed that the next-generation iPad Pro would feature an ‌M1‌ chip. This was five months before the device emerged. Before the launch of the 24-inch ‌iMac‌ earlier this year, Dylandkt correctly predicted that the new, redesigned ‌iMac‌ would replace the smaller entry-level ‌iMac‌ only and feature an ‌M1‌ chip rather than an M1X.

The new MacBook Pro models are expected to debut around October, offering new designs, brighter panels with higher contrast, an improved webcam, function keys with no Touch Bar, more ports, and a MagSafe connector for charging. I think the leaker misunderstands the situation. He/she said "expect a price hike for the 14 over the 13" which makes sense - but what they actually likely mean is that the 14" will cost more than the BASE model (currently M1) 13". Which makes sense. Cuz it's replacing the $1799 MBP.

Wth Apple?? I’m done with this rip off company.. price hike for what? Using their own chips and removing the Touch Bar and still jacking up the price😡😡
Their chips are 3-4x better performance than Intel, 3-4x the battery life, AND the new laptop is 14" with a mini-LED display. Not to mention Apple doesn't regularly increases prices in accordance with inflation; considering it's been a long time since the Pro got a price hike it would actually make sense to do so!

Not to mention the fact that you're getting this pissed about a random leaker with very little credibility claiming the price hike - when in reality they might've meant it'll cost more than the 13" base pro with M1 which we were expecting anyway!

And I'd bet anything that you're not "done with this rip off company"😂🤡

Sorry, what? The M1 13" MBP outperforms the 16" Intel machine.

Synthetic benchmarks mean nothing.
16" Intel has more ram and a much better GPU. Sure the M1 is better in some respects, but the 16" will generally be a better contender for anything other than pure CPU based workflows.
