I love the feel of the Barlow Snap On cover and the color, but I guess I’m figuring out I’m not a huge fan of the open bottom of the case. I know some folks love that so if thats the case You will love this one. The Connor case in Burnished Tan is nice and I lIke that it can hold more cards than the Apple wallet, but it can be just a little bit slippery (at least since its new). I know its not fair since I’ve had it longer, but the Apple one is still my favorite at least for grip and I think I’m more of a fan of the complete coverage around the entire phone.

I will say though the Burkley leather is very nice And a bit thicker for sure compared to the Apple one.

My only Apple case reference is my 6s+. And I really love how it feels and looks now after nearly 4 years. Unfortunately, I don’t remember how it looked when I got it new. Is the 12pro leather similar to 6s plus? Looking at the pics, the newer ones look “cheap”? That is why I went with Burkley and Bullstrap this time. Not sold on anything MagSafe yet.

Agree. If they made the Barlow snap on as a full case I’d probably be keeping that one since the leather is very nice.
Are you thinking of returning the Barlow then? I’m really looking forward to feeling it in hand. Hope the open buttons and bottoms don’t put me off.

I have the black leather. It does feel very...insubstantial. I suppose it’s impressive, but ironically the very thin edges framing my phone give me the sense that they skimped. It makes me wonder if genuine, full grain leather can be that thin and still be high quality. If not then what am I paying $60 for? At this point I’m mostly keeping it for the magsafe wallet, so I’ll see if I keep it. I had the saddle brown leather for my XS max and iirc, it felt thicker when new.

Yes, it can be, but most leather crafters usually don’t shave leather down to less that 2mm thick or 2oz of total thickness including a liner. The Apple “leather” cases this year do not feel as if they’re genuine leather. It may be a tattered cheap leather that needs to be shaved down to less than 2mm thick to pass as a leather case. The difference is very noticeable when holding the case and the sleeve. Just by watching video reviews the visual difference is there. I believe that’s why Apple advertises the leather sleeve as European leather and the cases as just genuine leather. Just my opinion, but I think that’s why it’s reflected in the price of the sleeve ($129 vs $59). Still over priced, but seems to be a much better cut of leather used on the sleeves this year.

iPhone 12 Pro Max has been too popular in China, which even leads to apple cases being out of stock. When I picked up my Pro Max, black and red are the only leather cases available. So, had to go with black this year.

That middle case I want. I have the same case on the right I think. However the middle case is out of stock and has been for awhile. I’ll be keeping my eye out for it. This type of leather is what Sena cases used to use. They too changed to paper thin Apple leather case type of leather. Nice!

How do you like the Barlow?

Absolutely love it. Heavy thick rough leather that grips the phone very well. I really like the open buttons/bottom design more than I thought - so much that I may not get the full case with slots in back. I got the distressed coffee - so it felt like rough leather instead of the waxy/glossy cases like usual. After a few weeks it’s smoothing out and really darkening.

It’s aging really well too. (The attached pics are when I got it) - I’ll have to take more when it ages a bit more (only had it for a few weeks).

Very happy with this case.

And I got an Apple Leather and a Sena case - too paper thin and didn’t feel like leather to me.

That green was fantastic. Wish they kept it around for another year. The black one looks solid too.

Awesome to read the positive impressions. Just got notification that my Barlow shipped. It’s also for the mini, so it’s good that the open bottom doesn’t seem like a concern. That’s my biggest question mark atm. I’m looking forward to the heavy rough feel of the leather, and have it gradually smooth and change over time, like my raw denim lol. Do you still rotate with your apple leather case?

I've been owing space grey Apple products for ever.. phone, iPad pro, MacBook etc. But, I've always wanted a White iPhone since 4S. But, didn't like the white face plate with black screen. Now, this year for 12 Pro, I jumped into the white.
To make the leather case more interesting too, I'm waiting for my Barlow in Burnished Red!! Looking at the photos online, it might slowly transform to a shade of Burgundy/Cordovan.. Which might complement with the silver frame.
To be on the safer side, I also ordered a Bullstrap case in Bourbon. I hope either one (or) both work!

Hows the back camera cover for your Case, I noticed the wide angle lens on mine was nearly flush with the case which concerned me a little.

I am in the process of selling my Sena and Apple leather case. First time this has happened too. I can't stand the paper thin "leather" they use anymore.

Mine covers it - My Sena case had the lenses sticking out really far. But this case seems to have it covered - just barely - you're right.

From all the phones I've owned, most of them have been space grey - I went with 2 white iPhones over the last 6 years - didn't regret it. I actually preferred it. But I keep going back to space grey cuz I like darker colors.

Red and white -- I look forward to the pictures then you get it. :)

Has anyone noticed how sticky and waxy these Apple Leather Cases feel? The sleeves don’t feel that way and they didn’t feel this bad last year. It’s like apple dipped these in a vat of oil or paraffin wax... like a pull-up leather and it’s not even premium quality in feel or look. Quite odd.
Yep, it certainly feels as if Apple skimped on the quality and/or amount of leather they used in their cases this year. I already returned a case, but figured I got a dud and purchased another one plus the wallet. Honestly, I’m actually looking for an excuse to keep these but I dunno...it hardly feels like leather. I have a Burkley case on the way so we’ll see how that works. What color do you have?

Yeah, been using apple leather cases since iPhone 6. And this one has the best patina while keeping the original color kind of intact. I suspect apple changed its manufacturing techniques last year.

I used the green leather for a few months with my 11PM before giving it to a family member and switching to the black. It was so rich and grainy. I’m sure Apple made changes to the new cases partially due to the inclusion of MagSafe so it’ll be interesting to see how these new cases do long term.

Agree. Gets sticky. I just treated it with some coconut oil. Very smooth now.

Are you the actual Technology Nerd Who Likes to Film Stuff?

Lol, yes. Been going a bit nuts trying to find the right combination of iPhone, case and accessories (MagSafe wallet, etc).
Well welcome! Love your channel.

You're absolutely in the right place (forum and specific thread, IMO). Leather cases have always been my go-to when I actually do use a case but I'm waiting for Christmas to roll past before I buy anything for my Mini since the Christmas list I shared was 90% Apple stuff.
