I have a question .I got a leather case for my iPhonex which I can’t use because of the bad smell. How can I get rid of this ?

You could try some type of leather conditioner/cream or follow apple’s cleaning suggestions. I don’t have the link but a quick google search should do it. It involves mild dish detergent, a damp cloth and making sure not to apply water directly to the case. Curious...what kind of smell?

I've not been happy with my leather case. I ordered my saddle brown the day of launch so it's been about 8 weeks. Applying oil to it doesn't do anything, At first it's a bit of a deeper brown and the dark edges look somewhat burnished rather than dirty. but eventually the oil just rubs off, the color goes back to drab matte brown, and the dark edges around the screen just look black and dirty. This is my first leather case and it looks like I got in right as they dropped in quality.

The only way I can tell this is real leather is because I got a pretty gnarly scrape on the side that knocked the top layer off. But with daily use I just expect it to feel/become more supple over time, like normal leather. I have no idea if it's just some weird coat or treat they're using, or not. I really want to keep an apple case because I want the magsafe, but I'm tempted to just order a silicone case.

I applied a few coats of coconut oil yesterday to try and speed up the process. I cant do silicone though so I'll have to go with another leather brand.

I just picked a mujjo case. The leather feels nice. Not like any other leather I’ve felt before. But damn the color changes fast. It’s already getting some darkness in the edges after one day of use

Wow!! I’ve had my Mujjo for a couple weeks now and it hasn’t changed a bit. Mine does feel like it’s heavily coated with a wax protective layer.

Same here, not impressed and pretty much about to return the cases and the wallet because the experience is a bit of a let down...at that price anyway.

They’re definitely not the same this year. My apple sleeve feels way different than the apple leather cases.
It would because it is, both are using different types of leather. I’ll say I’m satisfied with my brown wallet.

I decided to try this leather conditioner/cleaner on my Baltic blue case and I’m happy with the results. The stickiness is gone and it smells a lot better too.
I tend to clean/condition my leather stuff/car regularly so I don’t mind conditioning the iPhone case as well.

Btw, love the Bellroy wallet and key case but still hesitant to try their iPhone case. Maybe if it was leather all around.

I’m still enjoying my bellroy zip wallet as well. I’m still trying out the apple leather sleeve, but just as a sleeve without cards in it.

The day has come, my Bullstrap Walnut for the Mini has arrived!

The photos should answer most of your questions.

It's beautiful, smooth, smells like leather, has a nice lip and the phone sits gently inside. It's not a hard snap like so many cases. All the corners are beautifully rounded. The buttons are ever so slightly rounded, I'd prefer flat but it's imperceptible–they are ever so slightly firmer to press than the native buttons, but that will likely break in–this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as I've cursed so many times when I lock my screen while grabbing the phone.

Very classy. I'd love to have their blue case someday as well. Can't wait to see how this ages, but very glad I went for walnut, so I'm already halfway there on day one.

BTW this doesn't photograph too well with the lighting in my room. It's a bit richer in color than the photos, and the inside of the case doesn't photograph well at all with any of my devices. Super weird.

You mean the Bullstrap Bourbon color?

That looks way better than this years apple leather cases, much closer to past years’ quality.

My Baltic blue 12 pro max case finally started to smell like leather after a month of use. I honestly like the new leather they are using. The old cases got patina really nice but mine was always a scratched mess.
Do you have pictures? Does it have patina or any change besides the smell?.....thanks

Great reviews! I have and like the Elago Clear, and have ordered the Barlow in black pebble from Burkley, the Bullstrap in Bourbon, and the Veil in Frost from Caudabe.

OK, so I guess I'm one of the first people to have the guts to destroy his Saddle Brown leather case (12 Pro Max) because I'm too impatient to let it patina naturally.

I got the case on the 15th of November and just a bit over a month later it was still pretty light and didn't see the progression I wanted. I've seen photos of previous models' leather cases after 1 to 3 months and they were much darker, so that made me think that this year's version had a thicker protective layer. From what I read in a few comments in this forum, other users mentioned the same, so I decided to remove that layer. It was done by rubbing a wet wipe really hard on the surface, which reveals the darker brown colour you can see in the photos. After I was done rubbing the light tan layer, I applied coconut oil, let it dry and painted the logo black using a Micron pen (I'll probably regret this soon), let that dry too and applied more coconut oil.

At this point, I'm pretty happy with the result, since the colour looks more like aged leather and the case seems to get darker and smoother as I touch/rub it with my fingers, which I love. I'm sure I'll have an even nicer patina in just a few weeks.

I hope this info is useful for those of you who don't mind destroying a $60 case. In my case (no pun intended) the result was worth it and I'm much happier with this than with the plastic-y light tan look.

Yeah, that looks awful; makes the case look cheap and nasty.

The black logo also, you'd have been better off leaving that original colour and avoiding rubbing the logo. Yuck.

Patience is a virtue.
