My iPhone 12 Pro Max Saddle Brown Apple leather case after a week. Helped with Obenauf’s leather Cleanit to wipes the coating, and then a treatment with Obenauf’s Heavy Duty leather oil, it feels good and looks good. Now time will tell how it ages.. NO SANDPAPPER USED 😁

The indoor and outdoor photos.

I saw some reviews where the new gen apple silicone cases, are very delicate, easy to break, in few words a POS, is that true???
My wife has already gone through several silicon cases with the 12 Pro Max. The sharp edges wear down and start cracking/chipping a lot quicker than the rounded edges of previous generation silicon cases. The sharper edges also wear down faster and show that shiny/worn look a lot faster too.

While I do prefer the feel of the iPhone 12 generation, Apple's cases this year - don't work for me.

I'm very happy with my Bullstrap and BlackBrook cases - should easily last me years.

I don’t see why everyone hates the 12 cases, I’ve been using it for a week and love it so far. There’s no way the color is “painted” on. There clearly is a coating, as in my experience all quality leather has to protect it. The whole point of patina is it takes time, sometimes years for arguments sake. Now I’m no expert on leather, but there’s no way the leather is painted.
It's just arguing semantics when it comes to the coating - maybe it's "paint," maybe it's "dye" but whatever it is, it's not the leather you're seeing there. During the brief time I had my Apple leather case, I took a q-tip with alcohol on it and rubbed a spot on the end and it came off just like acrylic paint will with alcohol. (I often use alcohol to thin acrylic-based paints.) Call it what you want but it's essentially paint.

An update of my iPhone 12 Pro Max Saddle Brown, with additional treatment using Fiebing’s Mink Oil.

This is my 3 month old Decoded Navy and my 6 month old Apple Saddle Brown which I have love / hate relationship with. I love how well it fits the phone and the button responsiveness. I have always loved brown leather and the way it ages. Unfortunately the leather quality is nowhere near as good as the Decoded. I like the leather to develop not only patina but also a bit of shine over time. The Decoded has shine and is starting to patina in corners. The Apple has no virtually no shine. I keep hoping that the more I use it the more it will develop a shine but so far it’s just more disappointment with this years Apple leather.

Acrylic paint isn’t the only thing a harsh chemical like alcohol will remove

I clean both my SB or BB leather case every day with alcohol based hand clearer, well one or the other depending on what case Im using at the time, and they are still both not loosing their colour,
This topic has been active since 2017 and thru out the yesrs there have been some colours that have aged the same as the newer generations, not just the square edged Apple leather cases, scrolling thru the older pages and so many of the lighter coloured leather have aged the same and back then it was called “patina” now this topic had been over ran with so much miss information about the colouring or the protective coating that’s been added to the leather this year, but again looking back thru the older pages and this is all normal, it just seems that a lot of the miss information is because some people are upset because the new coating is keeping the cases from aging as quickly as the older versions, but back then there was a lot of complain that they aged too quickly,
I think that when the admin went thru and cleared up this topic they should have just closed this thread, because I think it’s ran its course and now most of the new added postes are mostly complaints of the Apple leather, and new images of all the other off brand leather cases, which is good that some users have found an alternative that they are happy with, but hardly any of those users post images of these same cases when they start to age, which when they do most of them start to “patina” just the same as the Apple branded versions, we are also told to look back thru to see how badly the new generation apple leather has aged, but most of those postes show cases that useres have attacked with so many different types of abrasive chemicals to try and get an artificial patina like the older generations,

Even the apple leather cases that have just been posted as a comparison the SB compared to the Decoded Navy case, the user is asking for a “shiny” look, that case was attached with a magic eraser so will it ever shine up or did the user just ruin their leather case just like all the others…

Just got in a fresh Baltic blue case with the Arizona red or whatever it’s called wallet. Really interested to see how the Arizona ages.

Now that time has passed and more leather cases are having more and more time to patina normally, I think the 12 leather cases look great.

Maybe the pursuit of the quick patina for some, completely ruined the cases.

This.

Patina shows wear and time. Trying to rush it is pointless and it doesn't take that long for that gradual darkening to begin anyway.

Decoded case came in yesterday. Ordered almost a full week after the Grams28 and I’m still waiting on any sort of tracking update on that one. Feels really nice. The only tiny thing I’ve been able to find is that the Power button is not quite as tactile as the volume buttons.

I’ll see how the Grams case compares and then decide which to keep.

I have the Decoded sleeve in brown for my iPad purchased from an Apple store. It’s an amazing sleeve and it has me wanting a case for my mini. Your case looks awesome!

Thank you! The other half somehow managed to drop it on our concrete front porch the first time she handled it so it must be considerably less sticky than the Apple leather I have been using. Small scuff on one corner (meh) and a small nick in the steel right above the lightning port (ugh) but I can’t imagine it would be enough for them to refuse a return.

Excellent choice! I wish they made the blue leather case for the iPhone 12 Pro Max my black decoded case just arrived today

Is the decoded leather case any thicker than the apple one?
Very slightly hardly noticeable. The brown decoded I would some how feels thinker than the black leather, but oddly enough the black leather variant does not have a raised camera ring for the iPhone 12 Pro Max models
