I don’t see why everyone hates the 12 cases, I’ve been using it for a week and love it so far. There’s no way the color is “painted” on. There clearly is a coating, as in my experience all quality leather has to protect it. The whole point of patina is it takes time, sometimes years for arguments sake. Now I’m no expert on leather, but there’s no way the leather is painted.

My saddle brown iPhone 12 (Pro) case was nothing at all like the one I had for my iPhone 8. The 12 case was rough, rubbery, and got worse. The 8 case was smooth, leathery, and got better. Others may have a different experience and of course it's possible they have updated the materials.

Hey guys! Ive been noticing that my leather case has been attracting a lot of microfibres lately. One of the reasons for going with leather instead of silicon was that this wasn’t supposed to happen with leather😂 and even though most of these wipe off easily, the smaller ones stick around and are perceptible during use. So if anyone could help me as to what l can do to prevent this from happening id be grateful! (Ps sorry for the bad pic quality, had to use and iphone 8)

I wish I could believe you but look at how many terrible looking cases have been posted. It is clear and obvious that the apple cases have a coating that isn't just dyed leather. As far as "quality leather" I would say most GOOD leather doesn't have any coating, at least not any colored coating.

If you scratch/ scuff the case it’s brown leather underneath. It’s definitely dyed leather. It’s just not going to look a year old in 2mos though, as everyone already knows the sharp square edges are going to change dramatically at first mostly from rubbing in pockets. I have a pair of high quality leather gloves I use for work. After only a few days of using them the areas where they used the most they turned very dark brown, almost black. I think this is very similar to the apple cases this year

I would say it comes down to how you use (abuse) the case. Those who ‘baby’ the case have good wear compared to those who just use it as a case.

Yes I've used a conditioner on both my Nomad iPhone 12 rugged case and iPad Pro rugged folio. Really brings out a deep coffee bean coloured lustre and a nice patina seems to start almost straight away. My rugged folio came with a little sachet of cream but I already have my own so I just used that.

Thanks. What conditioner do you (and others reading) use? The Nomad own is quite expensive I will only ever use about 1% of it. I’m also in the UK, so it would be prohibitively expensive to import.

I think you have answered your own question about why you can’t see why people have problem. Mine looked perfect after a week or so. Come back in a few weeks/months, because that’s when the problem starts.

As for whether or not it’s painted/coated/whatever, it’s completely irrelevant. We can argue all day about the cause, it’s the end result that matters. The fact is there is a huge quality control issue, and Apple leather cases should not look as bad as they do after a relatively short time.

So glad a I have the Nomand now, feels and smell like leather, not sticky feeling, and scratches ‘heal’ like leather should (although a bit of leather treatment would make it even better).

Nothing fancy for me. I get it off eBay. Smells nice and appears to work well. I get a big bottle because I also use it on my leather sofa, but they do smaller ones. Don't blame me if it melts your phone, though

I agree with the irrelevancy of wax coat/ paint. I was just stating my opinion. I do agree on the nomad though. I had one on my 11 for over a year and loved it, the leather was excellent

I always find myself constantly smelling the nomad leather case and I’m afraid I’m going to end up doing it subconsciously in public 😂 like “wtf that guy is smelling his phone”
I do and have been caught at work smelling my Nomad case. But, it’s had a different affect at my office; they ask if they can smell it too. 😁 Yeah, it sounds gross, but I’m sure I’ve sold a few Nomad cases just by the look and smell of my case.

The Apple’s Saddle Brown case after 1,5 months of using. Not bad, but could be better.

to no ones surprise my cali poppy case went from a nice golden hue to a blackened mustard - still love the fit and feel the most on these apple leather cases.

I got a few apple silicon cases coming in but I expect after all is said and done, I will probably just get a new CP leather case

How long did it take for this to happen? Pics?

I figured it wipe my saddle brown case with an alcohol wipe since I don’t use it anyway. Here’s what the wipe looks like after a “deep clean” rub down. I’m sure it’s mostly the dye coming off of the leather. The case didn’t change much, I think it actually looks a bit lighter. All the previous scuffs and dark spots are from when I originally used the case as is. This isn’t trying to force or speed up patina, I don’t use the case and wanted to see what would happen first hand wiping it down with alcohol.

An alcohol wipe should NOT change the appearance of leather that much, which in my mind just proves that apple's leather is low quality this year
