Just picked up the Apple leather in saddle brown for my XS. It's my first leather case. I don't want to spend a lot of time on it trying to get the patina started earlier, but is wiping it down with a damp cloth the best way to get it started without having to use leather treatment? Or just use it and let it start that way?

I’d just use it. What’s the rush? It’ll age just fine with the oils off your hands.

Just use it. I’ve owned three and within two weeks of use it’ll start to darken in a pattern of how you typically hold your phone. Eventually it’ll darken pretty evenly all over. Just got to give time for the natural oil from your hands to penetrate and do its work.

It just shows you that all the Apple leather cases are different. My Forrest green is a lot more grippy than my Saddle brown. It’s kind of “rough” on the back.

I noticed this myself actually. I just picked up my Forest Green case about an hour ago and immediately thought it was grippier than my Saddle Brown one.

Also the Forest Green/Gold combo is luscious.

Here’s a close up of the Forrest green and the Saddle brown. The former definitely looks more grippy than the latter.

Ages horribly. I’ll see if I can find my Taupe case I got for the 8+ last year.

I had the Taupe on my iPhone 8+ for about 5-7 months. And this is how it turned out.

Well after seeing your pictures , I'm happy I changed my mind and got the red instead , though I wonder how red ages . It's gorgeous out of the box .
Anyway , I got so used to the Loopy with my previous 7 that I got one for the XS and will most probably be using it most of the time .

Put the saddle brown leather case on the XS today. Loving the feel. Now looking for a sleeve for protection when charging in the car or in a bag. I'm hoping I can find a larger leather one that could fit with the case on. I've seen some felt cases but not leather that do this.

Not sure I follow. Why would you need a sleeve in the car?

Nothing. The only two things I do with the Apple Leather cases is take a wet rag and continuously wipe off the shiny layer that apple has on these cases. It doesn't take long. Some people use sandpaper to do it but I think it make it look to scratchy. After that I apply leather conditioner (just a random store bought brand) because it gives the case grip. Once you do those two things the case wears in much quicker.

Water and leather conditioner isn't "Nothing." lol.

I prefer to charge it and stash it in a cupholder or other location where surface scratches are easily obtained.

[doublepost=1538431490][/doublepost]Is the apple leather case supposed to move at all if you squeeze hard on the sides of the phone? Does this get better over time?

No creaking here- tight all around. I did have to exchange my original case because the power button was loose. Maybe you can try another one on in-store and see if it’s any better?

I just ordered this sleeve off Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H9G4J1C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I emailed the seller to see if it would fit the iPhone with a leather case on it. He replied within a few minutes that if I purchased the case and emailed him with my order number and requested it, he would make the sleeve big enough to fit with the leather case. It comes from Germany so it won't be here for a few weeks, but I keeping my fingers crossed!
